Banksie and C&R acting responsibly

The Auckland City Council, led responsibly by Mayor John Banks and the C&R team, are looking to shave hundreds of millions of dollars of wasteful spending off the books. This was profligate spending intiated by the spendthrift ways of the previous mayor and his wastrel council.

This is prudent financial management of ratepayers funds by Banksie and his council. In these tough economic times it would be a short lvied council that levied rates at anything about the rate of inflation.

Most of the projects facing shelving are pork-barrel projects from the previous council, others are having their timetables extended to spread the cost.

Prudently they are reducing the council’s borrowing programme by a massive $600 million.

Well done Banksie, and Co keep up the good work.

Please explain how “footpaths, public transport and stormwater” are examples of wasteful spending.

Why? Councils exist to build and maintain infrastructure.

They cant build new infrastructure unless they’re allowed to gather the required funding (or are given access to central government funding).
