WTF is wrong with our military

It’s a fucking gunsight, its supposed to make it easier to kill people targets, and we are scared of offending said people targets.

And it isn’t as if the references are bad. The example shown in the Press article is John 8:12

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’.”

These sights use light to identify the target, I know I used to have one like it on my pistol. The founder of Trijicon was a christian and the markings have been on all his sights since inception. Pretty tame part of the bible even if that is the message of God.

If I was Trijicon I would put references like Joshua 10:19

“But don’t stop! Pursue your enemies, attack them from the rear and don’t let them reach their cities, for the LORD your God has given them into your hand.”

or Psalm 143:12

In your unfailing love, silence my enemies;
destroy all my foes,
for I am your servant.

or Deuteronomy 33:27

The eternal God is your refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms.
He will drive out your enemy before you,
saying, ‘Destroy him!’

Now those are some real enemy smiting verses that should be on the sights. I hazard a guess that when the bullets and bombs are raining down in your general direction all soldiers call for god’s mercy. At that time God is about their only friend.

And as for Wayne “Comfortable Shoes” Mapp:

Defence Minister Wayne Mapp said the biblical codes were “undesirable” and could be “easily misconstrued”.

“They send the wrong sort of message. They cause the same problems as putting slogans on bombs,” he said. “We should not be doing anything that might give opponents any propaganda leverage.”

He should fucking resign, he goes on my shit list now. You are supposed to be the Defence Minister not some bloody liberal ponce like Simon “FIGJAM” Power. Quit you big blouse. If I was a soldier I would hate to have you looking after my interests.

Who gives a stuff? I mean this is really choking on a gnat and swallowing a camel. Say the remote possibility comes up that the NZ Army is sent to say Iran to fight the mullahs. What is gona piss the mullahs off the most – the fact that kiwi soldiers are there killing them trying to take over their crappy piece of desert or the fact that the scopes on the kiwi rifles have an obscure bible reference that looks more like a serial number than anything else. Liberal craptrappers get real man. Wars are about soldiers killing each other and the strongest wins.

Unfortunately modern technology and videos of laser guided bombs have made many people think that wars are like a make believe video game. Its not……real people getting killed by others for heaps of different reasons. Blood/Bullets/Bones = reality.

At some point the pseudo war between Islam and the West is going to end up coming down to this and pansy uni graduates are gona get the shock of their lives.

Awwwwww. What's wrong chook?. Someone with a degree steal your boyfriend/hotwire your space biscuit?

  • Gavfaemonty

"It’s a fucking gunsight, its supposed to make it easier to kill targets, and we are scared of offending said targets."

Eh, no. We're scared of offending the people who're not yet the enemy but if we offend them sufficiently, may well become so.

“They send the wrong sort of mes sage. They cause the same prob lems as putting slogans on bombs,” he said. “We should not be doing any thing that might give opponents any pro pa ganda leverage.”

WTF? I thought Mappey claimed to have served in the Territorials. Has he forgotten that bombs and gunsights are designed to kill the people who threaten your country and way of life?

Nothing wrong with slogans on bombs either. If it was good enough for my Grandfather (who was part of the generation that, you know, defeated Hitler) it's good enough for our boys now.

  • http://www.cadlow.co.nz Spanish Bride

Obviously we need to send the ' right ' message. How about pretty flowers on the sight instead, that way when they get killed they won't be as offended.

  • http://www.cadlow.co.nz Spanish Bride

As for bombs, how about…Allah sends his regards, you will be seeing him soon.

    • Hagues

Except they wont. They will see Yahweh and he wont be happy with them!

  • Todd

I don't care about offending the people of other nations but the fact is the references shouldn't be there for the soldiers of our own nation. The fact is we are a multicultural nation and all soughts will enter our military and use those sights. The only reason I suggest to just get rid of the markings instead of changing to different manufacturers is because they are seen as the best by our soldiers and they are the ones risking their lives.

  • Bob

It's about separation of church and state. I'm pretty sure we don't field an army of christian warriors to fight the muslim extremists…

  • Rob S

I would be surprised if many people would even recognise that they are references to the bible without it being highlighted by someone. Oh well, as long as they don't spend stupid amounts of money replacing them, sights of that nature are not cheap.

Although what happens if(when) they get damaged in the process of removing the offending letters?

  • Bob

How would they get damaged in that process? Surely it's simply a matter of grinding off those letters. Keep in mind that these aren't super fragile pieces of equipment given that they're made to withstand combat environments including the recoil of the weapon.

  • Bill No Name

I've heard Heather Roy, the mapsta's deputy carries a grenade in her handbag, now she is my kinda guy and betta looking than him too, she shud tak over from the mapsta

Nothing wrong with those sights – best bloody sights in the world!
Nothing actually wrong with biblical verses per se on 'em either – really (let's face it – they've been there on this company's products for 30yrs!), and having the reference on the sight does not alter its effectiveness or that of the user.
But the Big Question is: what gave the manufacturer any RIGHT to impose his religious persuasion on his customers via his product?

    • John Boy

Big question? Stupid question? Market forces and ownership of the business. He makes them so he can do what he likes. If you don't like it buy some other product. But if they are the best and death awaits the loser feel free to complain…

      • ohTheIrony

@john boy—and now the market forces have told the supplier no!!!….. both the US army and NZ have expressed their concerns to the supplier and its going…

    • Rob S

It's good enough for dick hubbard and his cereal…

  • Raymond

Hey now. Imagine if the sights had references to the Koran on them?

And why are those Bible references on there anyhow? Are these Holy Weapons? The fucking crusades are long over. Get over it.

  • Mokita

Perhaps the military leadership realize that many of the conflicts NZ troops are / will be in are in the muslim world. I guess some of these conflicts will be counterinsurgencies. Given the fervour of religious conviction in some of these nations I too would avoid unnecessary antagonism. The British learnt the importance of this in Sepoy rebellion.

  • Spam

Our armed forces really shouldn't be shooting at anyone. I mean, imagine the offence that someone could take if they were shot!

  • Mike

WO gotta agree with you on this one. Guns sights who cares.
Oh thats right most of Labour and the greens the care…………about themselves and whose got the KY and or batteries.

  • Zork

Nothing wrong with a bit Bible study during a fire fight.

As my Dad said " Not too man atheists in foxholes or submarines"

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/Titan_Uranus Titan_Uranus

Perhaps your dad should ask the US soldier who ,when asked by his superior officer if he thanked jesus after coming under fire and was uninjured because of the safety glass fitted to his vehicle, replied" no,I thanked the manufacturer of said ballistic glass".

The old "no atheists in foxholes" is a tired old mantra trotted out by liars for jesus on a regular basis.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=593642943 James Jenkins

True…..many atheists were created in foxholes….they just could not believe a "loving God" would allow the slaughter and misery they saw all about them.

The many wars started by religion proves the old saying…"those who believe absurdities commit atrocities"

  • Theresaj

    What's psuedo about the war?

  • kehua

With fuckwits like Mapp Governing us the enemy don`t need propaganda, we have our own homegrown anti-war, anti-gun, every one is equal brigade. I don`t give a flying fuck about the sights as long as they are the best for the job, but I am increasingly concerned about the namby pamby direction the John Key Govt is heading!!!!

  • ross

I have been watching with despair the rise of muslim activism,

Hasnt it occurred to the most basic politicians that the link between "dying as a martyr and going to the muslim version of paradise" is indeed the link that needs to be broken/proven to be a "load of fucking codswwallop""….hey there fuck wit pollies – the future of our known universe just perhaps relies upon your fucking intervention – but U wont because you cant tell shit from clay.

Go on Trijicon keep on producing your technology – who gives a fuck if Enzed pollies are disturbed . I want our NZ boyz to be protected.

Fuck all ""revolutionariez" no matter what your political or religious persuasion.
    Take em out TRiJICON!

  • Athiest

What is it with Christians and guns, anyway?

It looks like neither side has got over the Crusades…..

  • HomasTheMexican

If you were a soldier, old chap, I imagine you would find yourself explaining your motivational issues in the orderly room pretty jolly sharpish. Thereafter, I'm fairly sure the firm but fair staff at the Services Correctional Establishment would solve your getting out of bed problem.

    Proverbs 29:11

"The scripture references are engraved following model and serial numbers on rifle scopes made by a company named Trijicon – http://www.trijicon.com – under contract with the U.S. Marines. The scriptural references were not a part of the bid process and were added by Trijicon to the serial numbers. Their website contains their corporate values which include:
    • Morality
We believe that America is great when its people are good. This goodness has been based on biblical standards throughout our history and we will strive to follow those morals."
Tricky stuff when its designed to kill people!
