In court tomorrow

I’m back in court again tomorrow. This time I have to enter a plea.

It will be Not Guilty.

Interestingly the Crown has requested a bail condition be added that forbids me from posting names of people with Name Suppression.

Now this is kind of strange because if people have name suppression how am I supposed to know this? And does name suppression then apply to all incidences of the publishing of a suppressed name? This is real interesting.

Anyway we will soon find out and the Crown has just made sure that there will be even more interst in the case. On behalf of my readers I would like to thank Crown Law for making Whale Oil Beef Hooked more well known.

Oh and I will beinsisting that everyone call the blog by its Full Name.

Whole situation is crazy. I had no idea what your interesting names listings were about until reading an article in the SST. Perversely, all the action to silence you has just undermined the secrecy they are trying to maintain. Hope you win!

  • Wilbur

Give em Hell man!! Totally support what you're doing – ROCK ON!!

I think you are going a great job. I wish you all the best and get a outcome that is deserved. You are right when you look at all the police resources that have been wasted on this when there are many, many, many worse people walking around – it smacks of a personal vandetta aginst you simply because you have pointed out how stupid they are.

    Good luck!

Crown Law must have had a brain fart when they decided to pursue this. All it has done is lift your profile more. I also wonder when they are going to go after the administrators on the Trade Me blog, there is as much name suppression breaching on Trade Me and the breaches are much more blatant.

good luck whale, and go kick some arse

Now if you were a proper criminal and had committed say 300 burglaries with a clearance rate of say 10% (realistically 3%) and you were found guilty and sentenced to 1 month in jail for each burglary total 30 months to be served concurrently. That’s 1 month actual time less 2 thirds off for good behaviour. That would be a better use of Police resources? You could ask how much of a discount you would get for an early guilty plea. If you was a proper criminal.

Question: Does name suppression of someone in a professional body (such as a doctor, lawyer or accountant) prevent those bodies from kicking the person out and preventing them practicing?? I would have thought that if the person was, say, a doctor, then the NZ Medical Council would bar them from practicing if they had been found guilty by the Court on child pornography charges. Surely in most professions being a child pornographer would be professional misconduct and subject to explusion. Thoughts?

  • Hagues

Hey, if you are found guilty you should be able to pay your fines concurrently with the same $1000. After all thats the way it works with jail time right?

  • http://dad4justice.blogspot.com dad4justice

    Good luck mate.

  • PK:)

Yep not guilty = a print out of all the posts on this so far – and documented evidence of other on- line breaches then the judicial and national security brotherhood will suppress details of the whole case, you will disappear and some nameless SIS officer will take over your blog right?

yes, the give away will be balanced and reasonable posts where everyones opinion is accepted without challenge and everyone plays nicely together…oh and readership plummets LOL

  • bruza

the law in this society is and has been a joke for many many years as innocent men languish in prison so the police can substantiate the huge expense it takes to make a conviction stick, where women who commit the same crime as a man are sentenced much much more leniently, where celebrities with high priced lawyers can evade proper justice because of who they are,and in a another vein i wouldnt mind betting good money this judge in palmerston north who sentenced a child porn collector to 4 months home detention , knew him. isnt tht a conflict of justice???

    Well I'll be fucked!
    Good luck, mate!

I have no doubt that "they" will go for the Whale because they have 2 to save their precious status. They didn't get to where they are by taking advice from bloggers.

  • thinkofthekids

this guy should be exposed for all to see…its filthy what he has done and we need to know whos next door.

  • becn

Hey – have you applied for name suppression yet? The trauma of your identification of your significant others and siblings would be unspeakable

    • http://www.cadlow.co.nz Spanish Bride

Just as well one of WO's children is as tough as him as twice already at school she/he has had another student call out… Your Dad is going to jail. This child of WO's however is very proud of his/her Dad and ignored the taunts.

  • becn

oh forget that – don't piss off the judge by trying to make him/er look stupid

  • Vince

If you do the crime you pay the time, Name suppression to enable a person to contact family etc is acceptable, but upon conviction suppression of name must be lifted, doesn't matter who the hell you are 'NO EXCEPTIONS' This judge is an over paid stuck up wanker, protecting the ones that really should be exposed….
What makes then any better than you or i? Oh yea! Money & prominence

  • kiwidealz

good luck Cam, you are fighting the good fight…..

maybe as greenpeace are so keen on protecting the whale, they might stomp up some cash….yeah right

What time tomorrow? … is it likely to be a bit longer than last time's 28 seconds?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/Whaleoil Whaleoil

Around nine, yes it will be longer, they are trying to slap bail on me for publishing names, there will be a fight over this that should be interesting to watch.

  • kehua

Keep ya cool, Big Guy we are all with you on this one.

  • Mike D

Good luck Cameron! Hopefully common sense will prevail sometime soon.
