    Home detention? Name suppression is bad enough but home detention ( with a tv and computer) ??? Give him 250 hours of community service cleaning out and collecting bedpans in an elderly care home. In his overalls and gloves he will be anonymous, no one there will know who he is.

    This crime enables the perpetuators of child abuse. Without people wanting to download 300,000 images children would not be stolen or bought, and heinous acts committed on them. This crime is on the scale of child abuse and we need to treat it that way. Yes, I am almost more upset at the ridiculous sentence than I am at the name suppression. I assume this guy can ably work from home, on his computer????

    Thank you for posting this – I am an Aunty of a number of children in that area and I need to know this guy is no where near them – we have a right to know our children are safe.

    This is all new to me…but well done "Whaleoil"…..my husband WAS a principal until his NAME and PHOTO made it to the front page of our 'friendly' national paper…accused of downloading porn……hymmmpphh….all got thrown out…bunch of nasty felines wanting to destroy a good man, his reputation and his family…ha, ha to them…we all survived, our lives are good, VERY GOOD…and thanks to Mr Harley got more positive national coverage than we could've dreamed of……so regarding name suppression….the law needs to be overturned…when you're guilty the public have a right to know……my husband was innocent……these 'creatures' you expose apparantly are not! If it means breaking the 'law' to expose the truth….then you have my support.__MISS FUDGE

    Good job. Can someone please also explain why 2 guys found guilty of murder & manslaughter and sentenced last week in the Auckland High Court were granted permanent name suppression??? No reasons given by the judge and not a word said about it – never heard of this blatant abuse of judicial name suppression before.
    Their names can be found on the internet anyway……??

    Who is this person? A google search will find a manager for Mighty River Power. I would hate to think that an innocent person becomes accused of a henous crime just because they share the name of an evil villian that with name suppression the identity of the real person is blurred with rumour and half truths.

      Edit: I don't think this is the 300,000 picture guy. The article says that he shares the same address as Puddleducks (32 Albert Street)… The Dr there is Greg Denny. I can't find much about Craig Erskine… Can someone say definitively one way or the other?

    I know the Craig Erskine of MRP – he lives in Auckland and it is just an unfortunate coincidence he has the same name
