Are David Garret and Michael Laws wrong?

Well are they?

I think their arguments have merit when you read about pieces of shit that don’t deserve the honour of being called parents. Even a bullet is too good for this mobile crime wave.

This child would never have been killed because either the “parents” would have been killed or sterilised.

In essence a proposal for sterilization would be incredibly useful. the best way to go about it would be through the parole system as a means of receiving parole if any sex offenders managed to get a hold of it (which under our current system seems to be pretty easy). It would effectively become voluntary and if they refuse then they obviously haven’t learnt the seriousness of their crime and kept in jail for everyones benefit. If they accept and eventually 10 years later do turn out to be completely rehabilitated then by all means the procedure could be reversed for those one time offenders- of course not for the serial attackers and pedos who should’t even get parole in the first place. As for Killing major criminals , in essence I support it but in giving that power to the same judges that give out name suppression so readily I could not, however I feel most of nz probably does feel at some level there are certain criminals in jail right now who no one could care less about and quietly would endorse the death penalty for such people that the state spends triple the dole on keeping alive for no good reason

Will they agree if it means no more DPB though? Surely people who are this ill disciplined must be marginal in society irrespective of child abuse so I think freeing them to shag safely is not really the answer. This is a complex issue unless you’re a silver bullet fan.

  • MIKMS

they do make fake dog testicles…perhaps the same could be done for our worst offenders :P

  • The Gantt Guy

Not sure if this is the norm, but why, when this child died in September last year, are police still waiting on results from pathological testing? WTF? A suspicious death, and five months later they’re still waiting? I repeat…WTF?

Here are my thoughts. Selective sterilisation is a good thing for society in general. A one off payment of 5 to 10 thoughsand dollars may sound expensive but is cheap in the long run.

It should be compulsory for convicted sex offenders where the evidence is more than simply circumstantial.

For lower grades of child abuse, parents should be offered a choice to undergo some course of corrective councilling or a one off payment for voluntary sterilisation. More serious child abuse, such as murder or attempted murder or assault resulting in permanent disability, sterilisation should be compulsary.

For women who receive the DPB, should they conceive a further child while receiving the DPB, they will be offered a one off payment to undergo voluntary sterilisation after the birth of this child. Perhaps after conceiving further children while on the DPB, sterilisation could be considered compulsary.

This may sound harsh, but for once will people start thinking of the welfare of children and reducing the dependence upon welfare.

  • crabby

Grizz is on the money there. DPB is a career choice for some (not all) and because the govt pays them to have babies, there’s not any incentive to stop.

  • jabba

    no, they are not wrong

Sterilisation sounds a tad like Germany in the late 20s and 1930′s – but i can understand the desire to deal with these people in that manner. I was horrified by the nia glassie case – and i cant understand why people do these things. However – if you’ve had any contact with certain types of people – you can see why it happens. I’ve met some of these types – in my hometown and having them as employees on some occasions. If you go to certain public bars on a Friday or Saturday night you will see them.

Perhaps the best and least costly way – is death penalty for these types of crime. Animals (and that is an insult to animals) who would stand by and pin a little tot up to a clothesline and also put the poor little thing in a clothes dryer have forfeited their right to live. How in gods name can anyone do such a thing – even if drunk .. to a child of all people.

The prospect of final elimination for someone – with a limited system of appeals once the trial has happened, will shake loose a few family members hiding behind cultural stupidity (ie the Kahui twins situation) to fess up and tell the truth perhaps as well.

Jail and fines arent punishment to some of our society … death is.

Lets use that option for a change and see what happens. No death row waiting list though – very fast track once a good procedure has determined culpability.

These are the policies that will get ACT up over 5%!

I think there are a few problems with the plan, though – this is an incentive for Bludger Moms to abuse their kids so that they can get the snip and the CA$H. Making this compulsory removes those bad incentives.

MIKMS is right about the big money though – who wants their taxes to go to keeping crims and blugders alive and feeding and clothing and housing them at great expense – when there is a much simpler & quicker solution?

As for judges, well once you’ve purged Hellen’s people out of the cops, I’d give them the tools and the law and let them get on with the job.

This proposal has a lot of merit (and so does the death penalty). Bringing in both could be a good idea.

I fully agree that the DPB is seen as a cruisy lifestyle option by thousands of people. It’s time to put a time-limit on the DPB and the dole (and introduce work-testing to the so-called “sickness benefit” and “invalids benefit”).

. It’s time to put a time-limit on the DPB and the dole

    How about – zero days?

I really do think these policies could turn ACT into a “National Gathering” or “National Unity” type of party that would rather more popular than the current approaches.

sinner: “well once you’ve purged Hellen’s people out of the cops”. I was just thinkin that the other day, there must be still alot of pinkos in high places within the ministrys, it’ll prob take a few years to weed them out….or convert them

Harpoon – i had a look at some of the links you provided – many thanks for that sharing of information – it is appreciated.

However – why call the people who have given their honest opinions “sad” or for that matter adopt an insulting mode of speech – like “wanking” etc etc. You dont know these people by sight – and you havent sought to engage on a reasonable opinion sharing basis. Im not ripping into you at all – just asking you the questions. The links you gave are interesting and worth visiting – they would have been better received without the insults.

I suspect (only suspect) that people feel safe in an semi anonymous setting to perhaps start saying things they might not otherwise. On here – i’ve seen a lot of expressing oneself that usually you only hear from drunk guys in a bar or on a boys fishing trip. I’ve seen one contributor describe his partner in life as “me and the MILF” … i sort of do understand what that term means. Im not judging these folk – if they have a forum to do that why not? But Harpoon – your contribution was worthwhile – its just that the insults sold it short.

Anyway – i appreciated the links and thanks so much again (I dont say i agree with all their content – but its good to be openminded). People do feel strongly about these sorts of crime – and you cant blame anyone. If it was my child or grandchild who was affected like this by others – i would want someone to pay.

    Cheers

You don’t think you’re guilty of double standards? You bitch and moan about the”nanny state” telling people not to use cellphones while driving or that kids shouldn’t get to drive till they’re 16 but then seem to feel it’s OK for the same Govt to make a call on who gets to breed or not! Compulsory sterilisation was wrong when hitler did it, wrong when the US did it , wrong when India and China did it and it was wrong when the NZ govt did it in the past. Do you think mentally ill people are fit parents? If not have you been sterilised? “Judge not lest ye be judged”

    • http://whaleoil.gotcha.co.nz Whaleoil

Ticfan, or should I say Ian, I never advocated compulsory sterilisation. Also your comment about mentally ill parents is just a spiteful slight at me. The people who abuse their children aren’t mentally ill, they are just fuckwits and should be treated accordingly. They are beyond redemption especially when they have killed more than once.

As a mental health nurse advising the government I would have thought you would have know that.

If your born in a war torn country you know where the danger is – born in NZ look out for your un married un employed p smoking loser parents.

Remove the ability to have children for those that are never going to be able to look afetr them.
