Tech Tuesday – Lesson One – Burning Bridges with Fergus Cleaver

Early Edition: Just received this and have to post it. I’m, on the third circuit so it hasn’t spread far yet. I have edited the email so it reads properly from top to bottom. Look how many brands he is burning with just one intemperate remark.

This is a classic case of pressing send before the brain is engaged. Welcome to your fame ignominy Fergus Cleaver. Dickhead.

Afternoon Anna,

I trust the week has been good to you!

Further to our conversation re BlacknotBlack and possible sponsorship, I have another possible event that Tiger may interested in coming on board with.

Myself along with a number of partners are holding an event coming up at Khuja Lounge on the 27th March, it is the fifth instalment of “SOUND ADVICE” a gig that we hold on a quarter year basis.

Previous “SOUND ADVICE” events in the past have consistently been greatly successful generating huge crowds, great music and a fantastic atmosphere for all who attend. The upcoming promises to be no exception as we move to support the people of Haiti as they recover from the current earthquake that has hit.

We have confirmed Sponsors 42 Below and Red Bull as they have eagerly jumped on board. We are looking for a beer sponsor to help make the event a great success.

We have a big DJ line up of Andy JV, LO-Key, and Arash, all Auckland based heavy hitters in the DJ scene and we are putting 100% of all net profits towards the charity of our choice to support the people of Haiti.

What we are asking for from a beer sponsor is either assistance with printing costs for flyers and posters etc being sold, or at least some boxes of Tiger thrown Khujas way. In return we will put Tigers name on all posters, flyers, web links and any other promotional material.

Currently we are also in communication with clothing sponsors to get there name on bar staff, the door girls and possibly security to the event.

Please find the flyer attached that we have had designed that will be printed in posters, flyers and any other promotional sources that we will use. Current sponsors have not yet been attached however they will be included in the final draft that we will send to sponsors for final conformation before commencing printing. Please note that on the draft flyer the date has been listed wrong. The confirmed venue and date for the event is Khuja Lounge, March 27th, 10pm till late. Please let me know if you can’t open the PDF file.

Any questions or queries please call myself on 021 153 6543, or Fergus on 021 665 188 or email me on the return email. It would be wonderful to get Tiger and DB Breweries involved in helping the people of Haiti out.

Thanks Anna, I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Francis

Hi there

Sorry for the late response, we have been inundated with sponsorship requests.

We’ll decline the opportunity this time as our calendar is very full at the end of March.  All the best for the event.

Cheers

Hi Fergus

Thanks for your intelligent response above.

You’ll notice I’ve copied in the key members of the DB brand marketing team, as well as our friends at Pernod Ricard, Lion Breweries and Pead PR so best of luck with further events and gaining sponsorship for these.

Cheers

Guys,

An email from our friends at DB above regarding an interesting response to being declined sponsorship. It might be worth thinking twice if any sponsorship requests come to you from Mr Cleaver…

  • Agent BallSack

wow! awesome names up there for our next sponsored event..I might leave out Cleavers name on the CC though :D

  • thor42

    Amazing, just amazing….

Yes, the sponsorship area at present would be hard enough as it is, without burning bridges like this.

  • grizz

Newsflash, Furgus Cleaver was found lying in Karangahape road with a broken nose and no teeth. Francis Pickworth was admitted to hospital with an infected hand arising from bite marks to his knuckles.

  • http://www.blairmulholland.co.nz BlairM

Well, they don’t even know the difference between “there” and “their” so I’d decline sponsorship on those grounds alone.

Somebody is coming down hard from his “e”s, I shouldn’t wonder… oops!

  • inventory2

What a pillock! I guess that Fergus will indeed be getting some Sound Advice from his business partners as to how to manage relationships with sponsors!

  • Ciaron

Alternatively, “How to destroy your career with one word”

    Epic, Epic fail.

  • psychnurse

Hopefully Redbull and 42 Below pull sponsorship as a result of this man’s professional handling of rejection.
Maybe “Sound Advise” will become “Canceled due to lack of sponsorship”.

  • michaels

Now that I have composed myself again….
    How fucking funny!!!
I wonder just how often things like this go on in the background that we never know about.
I hope Fergus feels good about his comment because I would doubt very much he would ever see another sponsorship dollar again.

  • inventory2

Somehow I doubt whether his fellow Directors at Cleaver Richards Ltd, Accountants will be too happy either.

  • p1ll

    what a tosser

  • tmex

I can imagine exactly how this happened. Fergus was cc’d on the original email and has replied thinking his reply was going back to his mate, not the Brewery rep.

    Epic fail, but not uncommon.

  • michaels

    On a total side note….
One would want to be careful about emails sent to anyone.
It is obvious that a Saatchi staff member has leaked this out. Not to sure if I’d want them on my team.

  • gaskranken

That surname turned out to be a self fulfilling prophecy for poor old Furgas eh?

  • jalinar

The main thing I would note from this is not to do business with Saatchi. The way they handled this was dirty.

  • leonb

    to Michaels and Jalinar

If you had seen the original email and as was reported in the NBR, you should know that DB not only emailed it’s internal team but also a number of external suppliers and competition, out of professional courtesy. Before it got to Saatchi it went from DB’s market agency to the likes of TV3, Fairfax, AirNZ, Getfranked and many more. So I think you should consider not working with many of New Zealand’s top companies as it could have been leaked by any of them.

  • michaels

leonb, fair point. It just it seems from what we have seen here that Saatchi’s was the last port of call.
So if it was leaked by someone else how fucking devious are they to make Saatchi’s the last point?

  • mooshi01

My goodness I have read them all. Firstly wow executives / senior management from large corporates. Mind blowing I BET you all have degrees as well. I have seen kindergarten/pre-school children behave better. HAVE SERIOUSLY NONE OF YOU EVER MADE A MISTAKE?
Oh OR are you all perfect in the real world. I don’t condone what he has done but give the guy a break. I think to all the people ESPECIALLY the origninator of this personal persecution has made more of a fool of themselves.

ALSO to the lovely person that made comment on the it could of been the cleaners are just as bad. Is it people like you that would actually do that job. But don’t worry those poor cleaners will have cleaned your desk emptied your rubbish bin AND refilled the toilet paper so that you could wipe your %#@!.

Given the way that some of you have behaved they are far er than you. AND before everyone makes a comment I am not a cleaner but I do respect them for the work they do. I am sure you wouldn’t do it.

I am gob smacked to say the least on this personal persecution there is no other word for it.

Give the guy a break. MAYBE next time you make a mistake or do something wrong you might stop and think – as the world is not made of perfect people.

I’ve made mistakes, but the difference between and “Meat” is that I own up to and apologise for them, the cock that is “Meat” makes shit up and compounds his foolish error with lies. Worse he gets repeaters to repeat his lies.
