No Shame pays for two nights so he can snuggle

No Shame Carter stung the taxpayers for two night accommodation but only stayed one night. $520 bucks a night seems a bit steep for Christchurch too. Worse still the statement has the person’s name he stayed with redacted so we must presume it wasn’t Mr Kaiser.

No Shame Carter must resign, it isn’t good enough that this veteran trougher sits on the naughty chair on full pay. The cost of a by-election would be cheaper than his bills put together.

No Shame in charging two nights accommodation for one night and a sleep in

How many of us would get highly paid stress leave to “think about our future”. I was ashamed of New Zealand and our political system watching carters behaviour on TV last night. The fellow has probably set his own “gay” community’s standing in society back by decades due to this. He has just demonstrated the typical stereotype as being the reality. Duh

Why cant they stay in a $100 a night motel like ordinary peasants? Support the local economy? Crowne plaza would have enough tourists etc and businesspeople paying their own way to cope without fuckface and his floozman

I am no fan of Carter but I will try and play devil’s advocate. If Carter traveled will an official they may have had two rooms. I checked the current rates and he could have easily had two rooms.

The date was mid-week so his boyfriend should have been working.

If the person whose name was blacked out was not his boyfriend would he qualify for extra room costs for a double room which is a little more.

I do not expect a Minister to stay in a $100 motel but $540 seems excessive.

Given the salaries and perks – it would make for good PR if a minister stayed in a cheap motel-and trumpeted the fact. Personally – i think an approach that was frugal would guarantee a place in parliament – both pre and post this current debacle of people doing what can only be described as stealing from the people of NZ. Seems to me Robert Mugabe would feel right at home here.

We are a small nation – limited resources – we arent rolling in it .. our politicians should follow suit. Why shouldnt a minister stay in a $100 motel … we (or some of us) have to?

  • Barnsley Bill

Not recently but in the past I stayed at the plaza two or three nights a month for nearly five years. That room rate is astonishing. They have gouged the minister good and proper.

  • muhammad

Oh I think the minister got “gouged” alright – and it wasnt by the room rate – the large hotels often have some very good deals going. This bill is all bullshit

  • chuck

Barnsley, I take it you mean the rates were relatively low. I had a look and they start a little over $150 but went up to over $1000. I do not think Carter got charged extra. He probably took an expensive room.

  • sthnjeff

And it is only fair that such a hardworking Minister be allowed a lie in beyond 10.00am in the morning.

Here is a link to the Crown Plaza’s room rates: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/660/en/rates/chcks?ias=y&searchStartFrom=ebsmq&fromSearchResult=yes&viewHotelPackagesFlag=false

If Carter was staying with Kaiser, then it can only be expected that they would need a king size bed. Hey they need room for activities. Unfortunately it looks like they have gone for the more expensive suite option with the benefit of a separate bath! Had they had gone for the cheaper king size bedroom then the cost would have been half as much. I have noted that other ministers have stayed at the Crown Plaza with room rates of less that $200 per night, so clearly the suite is totally unnecessary, unless you have a partner in tow who likes a bit of pampering. Also remember, the Crown Plaza website advertises a 10% discount for government travellers.

For someone who champions the poor and downtrodden, a no-expenses spared trip for himself and significant other is not a good look.

I also came across a statement for a Resort in Fiji for Carter and partner. They stayed one night, checked out late and thus charged another 50% of the room rate which was F$500. The bill also included a F$400 spa treatment, although that was paid back 1 month later. Again total bullshit. I am sure Fiji has cheaper hotels more suitable for conducting business. Staying at luxuray resorts at the cost of the taxpayer is simply taking the piss!
