4 weeks to fight day

Yesterday was the the day that was 1 month till my court date for the 10 charges I have.

Today I got back in the gym. I am going to be training hard for the 25th August. I am treating it as a boxing match and I have 4 weeks left to prepare.

You can help me pay my legal bills by buying some Whaleoil merchandise, plus the added benefit of having an army of supporters all turn up in uniform on court day.

I agree with you that name suppression is far too prevalent in NZ. Our court system appears to be very patriarchal and stuck in the past with little knowledge of the implications of new media etc… But personally I can see a case for name suppression applying until the accused is actually convicted. Otherwise baseless accusations could have a major impact on innocent people. For example if a politician was accused of some terrible crime a few weeks out from an election for example, it would likely take months for the matter to be resolved and if it was a baseless accusation it would cause undue harm. But I can’t see a case for permanent suppression, unless it would lead to the identification of a victim say in a sexual abuse case. The victim should have the right to state their preference though, maybe they’d want the offender named as a deterrent. Anyway, thanks for bringing this issue into the spotlight, it’s about due for some scrutiny and I hope there’s a good outcome for you in court.

    Hey Whale

It is not a boxing match. It is a discussion about whether or not you broke the rules. If the Court says that their identity should be suppressed you should respect that. By publishing the names you are breaking the rules.

You should throw yourself on the mercy of the Court and plead guilty and promise not to do it again. The rule of law should be respected by everyone, including wingnuts …
