Teachers Council still protecting pedo Teachers

The Teachers Council is still protecting pedo teachers by keeping their details secret.

Name Suppression

A married teacher who sent love letters to a young student saying she was his “first true love” has been banned from teaching.

The man, who has not been named, has been censured for serious misconduct and had his registration cancelled by the Teacher’s Council after he was found to have developed an inappropriate relationship with the Year 8 student last year.

He wrote to the girl making statements including “thank you 4 choosing 2 love me and be all mine and 4 caring about me,” “being able 2 hold u and kiss u has just been the best feeling” and “u r my first true love”.

He also topped up her cellphone with credit and exchanged text messages which became increasingly frequent and sexualised with comments such as “you should have given me a hug” and “I am feeling horny”.

Why has he not been named?

In a decision released this week the council said the man arranged a code for ringing the girl at home to ensure she would pick up, arranged for her to come to school early to spend time with him and told her to lie about their relationship. During a camp he invited her into his room and kissed her.

He also refused to talk to the girl if she did not do what he asked of her.

The teacher said he did not accept all of the facts alleged against him but he pleaded guilty to a charge of serious misconduct before the council.

The council said the student’s description of how the relationship with the teacher developed was “distressingly familiar”.

Just how many dirty teachers are there that the council can describe how this dirty teacher entrapped a student as “distressingly familiar”. This is precisely the reason that dirty pedo teachers should be named. Right now this guy is someone’s neighbour or workmate or coach of your daughters hockey team. He is a sex offender, a sex pest and he should be named.

Agree wholeheartedly Cam. Offending such as this is often habitual, and there is every chance that this guy has acted in a similar way in the past, but used the power of his role to silence the victim.

The man has admitted the substance of the allegations against him; there is no reason for his name and more particularly, that of the school where he worked to be suppressed.

As a male primary teacher with over 15 years experience – this sort of stuff from the Teacher’s Council does nothing to support us as practicing teachers. We pay a lot of money to be registered with them (and it is compulsory!) and this sort of cover up of what is totally inappropriate and damaging to our profession is tragic. I am constantly asked by parents why there are not more male teachers in classrooms, and this sort of negative publicity and cover up of potentially pedophile-like predatory actions, does nothing to enhance this as a career path for men. The Council need to be open, consistent and ‘outing’ of behaviour like this – perhaps also supporting Police prosecution of such actions.

@ Steve – I agree that the police should be involved. This is a clear case of grooming.

The danger of not naming is that innocent teachers become suspects.

Quite so AG – every male, married teacher is now subject to suspicion because the actions of one man have been kept secret. That hardly seems like the kind of climate in which men would be encouraged to join the teaching profession, which is really sad, given that male teachers are becoming an endangered species.

My point exactly … we are a dying breed and there’s nothing to encourage many guys into what is an excellent job – especially in the holidays!
