Are bridges too low or are trucks to high?

from 11foot8.com

There is a bridge like this on Auckland’s Southern motorway, might I suggest to my readers at NZTA (yes I know you do) that a couple of cameras on the Penrose Road overbridge and you would have a solid Social Media hit right there.

Penrose? It’s been as issue for 20 years. There have been warning sensors and flashing lights fo0r that long also.

I’m surprised the bridge is still standing!!!

Glenn, also you can see the warning lights on the bridge in the vid.

Take it as a simple example – you can not legislate for stupidity. Make the stupid pay for the mistake and move on – hopefully Darwin will catch up with them.

What does that mean in the context of the “Penrose bridge”? If you see a sign saying “Flood”, or “Accident”, do you just carry on at 100k? Yeah, right!

My employer had a 40HC container for delivery a short distance out of Melbourne. The truckie (contractor) decided he could not get to the delivery destination before knock-off so he went home – with the container on the truck. Direct route from home to delivery included an underpass with rail over. He was lucky that the rail bridge was left “intact” – it is a busy suburban line… His insurance co. had to stand the damage – last estimate I heard was close to AUD450K. I bet (hope?) that he was not long in the heavy carry business after that.
