An email from Matt McCarten

I received this email from Matt McCarten, I rang him and checked if I could post it because it seemed he wanted me to.

Matt McCarten you are a good bugger, I don’t like you politics but I admire your grit and your beliefs. My beliefs tell me to share some prayers for you to help in your fight. I hope that they help.

Go hard, and I promise that if you want I will dance on your grave knowing that you will take that in the good humour you’ve suggested.

Hi Cameron,

Thanks for your kind words yesterday.

It takes one mad bastard to know another. I’ve always respected guys like you who “walk the talk” and stand for something even though we may disagree on many things.

The big C is just another campaign. I’m on the left – everyone expects us to lose and my job many times is to just ignore and scrap anyway. I can’t help myself.

I know I can be hardball at times. Therefore I give my blessing to my enemies (on the left and right) to dance on my grave if I lose. But in the meantime, let battle continue.

Forward to the glorious revolution!!!

PS You must be driving Andrew Williams batty.

    Matt McCarten may be a leftie, but I suspect that his political leanings are balanced by a fair dose of humanity. I’m sure that he would disapprove of the tactics that some of his henchmen are using in Christchurch just at the moment.

    I wish McCarten well – at least he actually understands and can be quite lucid about his beliefs rather that the vast majority of the left who have no idea about why they support socialism except a mis-placed belief that socialist governments help poor people (which of course they don’t)

      Laila HarrĂ© and Matt McCarten are good sorts. Don’t agree with their politics, but they are not blinded by ideology and have shown they can apply some common sense when required. They are totally unlike the cut the nose to spite the face types that infest the union movement.

    Matt, I know a few people personally who were given x years or months to live who then decided that was crap and carried on as if they were going to live. Sometimes traditional medicine doesn’t get it right. Diet is huge, as is rest, clean air and perhaps something completely out of left field. Start reading and keep an open mind. You never know – you could be one of these walking dead that should have died x years ago x+1 years from now. It happens in real life. It may happen to you. Best of luck.
