Another broken election promise from Len Brown

Len Brown hasn’t even finished two months in the job and he is breaking election promises left right and centre.

This was his election promise on rates;

I am committed to keeping rates low. My background is to keep rate increases close to the rate of council inflation and I have delivered no increase in water rates.

This is what he has just announced;

Aucklanders face a rates rise of 4.9%.

Mayor Len Brown made the recommendation for the increase in rates in a speech to the council’s Strategy and Finance Committee this afternoon.

With inflation running at around 1.5% Len Brown has delivered a rates increase three times what he promised. I just bet all those people who voted for nice Mr Brown are having face-slap moment about now.

The only thing Len Brown can be relied upon now is to lie, cheat, hide things, appoint his mates to jobs and flip flop.

    And your surprised here Whale????
This will be just the beginning of a whole truck load of shit that we will have to endure from this dumb arse.

  • gazbo

someones got to pay for his new train set if John and Bill wont

  • paraparambigot

Auckland – you’re getting what you voted for, a lying scumbag.

  • naylor

Typical. The left can’t help but dive headfirst into the public trough. Bet his “mates” will be lining up to get some of this win fall.

Len Brown can’t even be honest or up-front about most of his decisions. Looking forward to the Chow brothers screwing him rightly for the demise of what would have been a classy establishment right across the road from the card tables at Sky City.

Nice to see Len’s media adviser Scott Campbell now firmly in the comms seat at Sky too. Dodgy appointment there too no doubt. Back handers? Who help this payment?

Scott Campbell was Bank’s advisor…i think you have that screwed up

Do Aucklanders never learn? I thought they figured out you can’t trust bleeding heart leftist the last time they voted for one in 2004.

Of course Brown and the Left were going to put up rates. They always were. Why don’t people learn? It’s like a battered spouse that crawls back to their abuser.

  • mediatart

The rates have to go up , since C$R ran it up on the credit card.
I think you will find that when you take away the costs of Hides Supercity then we are back to 1.5%- you heard it here first

If you are explaining you are losing…like Len

      • mediatart

Well it worked for Key and English. The tax cuts ‘promised’ that were rushed through before Xmas and rushed out again 4 months later. The GST that was promised to be frozen was shunted up.

        • http://zerorocketlaunchers.blogspot.com/ Mr. Infinity

          Boohoo.

To actually get a hit from the GST increase you need to be earning bugger all, and in that situation its more of a look at yourself thing. GST went up, taxes went down by more – for the vast majority of NZers there was a tax cut.

  • grizz

What percentage of Len Brown voters pay rates anyway? If you do not pay rates directly, then you are not going to care if the council ups the rates bill. Rates is such an unfair tax on so many levels. If most voters had to stump up the costs of running a council then the outcome of council elections would most likely be different.

Placing myself in Lenny the Snouts chair I’m figuring this his take on it.

First off I take it off Banksy. Easy – set up a bog standard trust hide all the big donors, beat him at his own game, spend the bucks and get my face out there. It worked but now I have to pull some cash fast and make sure I look after my mates.

I’m also thinking your bog standard ratepayer is stuck in traffic in their 2005 beamer thinking about how to make the next payment, they know their rates bill is coming and if it’s up a few grand well what the hell that’s what you expect so me and my mates are thinking, `fuck it let’s fleece em while we can eh’.

the LENatic’s corruption made Larry Williams’ Newstalk ZB slot tonight.
Words like ‘croneyism’ and ‘jobs for the boys’ bandied about, so it might be entering the wider Auckland commuter consciousness.

I don’t think many of them are driving 2005 BMWs either, so a rates kick will hurt in the current climate

  • titanuranus

Its just the beginning, 4.9% pppfffffffftttttt, wait til the overseas trips begin to “study” metro s ,stadiums and whatever else the pricks can dream up.
Are all these public officials channeling Chris “its my entitlement”Carter?

Len Brown hasn’t even finished two months in the job and he is breaking election promises left right and centre.

    Should`nt that be,
Len Brown hasn’t even finished two months in the job and he is breaking election promises left ,left, left and left.

  • rivoniaboy

I say Lester Levy for Mayor.

  • cre8d

I’m no expert on this so I may be wrong but I noticed Len Brown said “rate of council inflation” while you said “inflation”; there’s a definition difference, isn’t there?

    • mediatart

That doesnt cut it either. Fancy words over which rate applies are weasel words

But then Banks said NO council money would go into Eden Park.
In the end a $45 mill ‘loan’ was made. Meaning Banks broke his promise as Council money was spent.
I suppose this makes Eden Park a ‘council controlled organisation’ as well.

      • joes

You mean just like the “loans” and “expenses” that Manukau put into the trust running the events centre, that “wasn’t a council organisation”, so that they could go and give loony Len a donation?
