Len's Volare Dinner partners revealed

Finally after months and an appeal to the Ombudsmen challenging Len Brown’s refusal to name his dinner guests as required by the rules of Manukau City at the time I have had a victory. The Ombudsmen have ruled that Len Brown must disclose the names of those present.

And we now know why Len Brown was prepared to die in the ditch over revealing the names.

Among those exalted people who Len Brown wanted to keep secret were Leigh Auton, his patsy Chief Executive, and his missus, and Richard Jeffrey and his missus too.

Both Leigh Auton and Richard Jeffrey have been given CCO board positions in a secret meeting this week. Richard Jeffrey is also the CEO of the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre which is now embroiled in investigations surrounding donations of ratepayer funds to Len Brown’s election campaign.

Leigh Auton, you will remember was too busy to answer the Ombudsmen’s request to name the people at the dinner. He was too busy to name himself and his wife and he was too busy to name the others who he must have known well because they were at the very same dinner s him. His reward for his silence was a CCO Board seat.

Richard Jeffrey is also the person who got the now infamous Volare opera singer, Geoffrey Knight, his kick-start with funding. Bizarrely they are still insisting that Geoffrey Knight was “a young singing artist from the community.” His own website proves that is a lie.

Based on the Gold Coast, Geoffrey has been specialising as a Classical Singer since 2001, his career has been very diverse since he began performing professionally in 1994 after working as a stuntman for US TV shows Hercules and Xena.  During 1995 and 1996 he completed a diploma in performance art at the National Academy of Singing & Dramatic Art.

Since when has the Gold Coast been local Manukau? He is also 40 years old, hardly young, though that depends on where you are looking at it from.

Len Brown tried to keep this secret and even said he would resign if forced to reveal the names. Well now he has been forced to reveal the names, but I seriously doubt whether he will honour his word to resign.

The man who campaigned on transparency is nothing short of  a secretive, furtive ,sad little liar. The pity is that we may well have to put up with him for three years.

There is certainly something very, very wrong with the CCO board apppointments that Len Brown secretly rammed through, especially when one of the appointees is the CEO of a council funded organisation that donated ratepayer funds to Len Brown’s campaign. The fact that he was one of Len’s previously secret, diners at the infamous Volare dinner just makes matters that much worse. No wonder Len Brown tried to hide it. No wonder he tried to hide it from the other councillors making board appointments.

Just as well this blogger never gave in and appealed to the Ombudsmen. Now we can all see who Len Brown was  trying to keep secret and rightly ask even harder questions about just why he insisted on dying in the ditch to keep the secret until I forced him to reveal it by going to the Ombudsmen.

The Volare Diners Revealed at last

    Keep at’em, Whale

So Len Brown, Mr Openess 2010, thinks it’s OK to play his little school-yard gang games with ‘lobs for the boys’ in a multi-million organisation like the unwanted SuperCity..
    What a bloody amateur.
I would suggest that his heart troubles have left him mentally unfit for his current role.
He is clearly corrupt and there is no openess at all.
What will it take for the public at large to see this?
I know quite intelligent people who voted for him because they didn’t want Banks.
    Well, more fool them

Auckland, you have been suckerpunched by a cunning, immoral idiot whose brain aint right from its lack of oxygen a few years back. I pity you, and I hope you dont have to wait a whole election cycle to get rid of him.
Time for the People to storm a council meeting, a few riots would be a good thing.
    Maybe Dave Dobbin could help?

Well done Whale; I’m willing to bet that Fidelity Life’s lawyers are not happy this morning when they see that you are prepared to hang tough and fight for something that you believe in.

As far as Len Brown goes; why the secrecy? He is the one who has made an issue out of this; no-one else. Had he front-footed it, it would have blown over in a couple of days. Instead, he poured petrol on the embers; he shouldn’t moan that he’s been burnt.

  • budgieboy

Great work Whale, this ranks right up there amongst your best work, please do keep it up!

Methinks Loopy Len has a long 3 years ahead of him!

  • reid

There’s a Christian White from Fletcher Building listed as attending a ‘hoe-down’ at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre and there’s a Christian White listed on Linked-In as a Financial Controller at Fletcher Construction.

I wonder who built the TelstraClear Pacific Event Centre? I also wonder who might be one of the front-runners for the construction of Len’s Loony Loop and further wonder how much Fletcher Construction donated to Len’s campaign?

Finally, what specific “matters of interest to Manukau” were discussed at the dinner that couldn’t have been equally discussed via a much cheaper conference call during business hours and what, precisely, did their wives contribute to said discussion?

      Mainzeal built it

    congrats…a moral victory

now i NEED to know who had the burger and fries, who had the chicken and what sort marinade the steak was done in ???

it’s really important that these details be revealed. the future of the entire universe is at stake.

don’t let us down bro !!!

  • Graeme Edgeler

As the names have now been released, will LB follow his promise to resign?

    (or am I remembering incorrectly?)

  • nasska

A well deserved win against a bunch of ‘transparent’ nontransparent parasites…….. tenacity has it’s rewards. Alas Auckland City has only the possibility of a dodgy heart crapping out between it & another three years of duplicity. You paid a high price to get rid of Banks.

The thing that really gets to me is the last line from the tame pen-pusher at the Council. (Where are these pricks drawn from?)
This idiot needs to appreciate that it is not down to him whether further comment is provided. That election rests with the Ombudsman and/or public sentiment.

Well done Whale. Where to now?

    • mediatart

Hardly a pen pusher – its the Chief Executive.
Whale is drawing a long bow , to somehow say that this dinner for his associates is tied to appointments made by a vote of the Auckland City much later on. After at the time who would have guessed Brown would be Mayor.

Meanwhile the hundreds of millions of borrowed money spennt by C$R in the last 3 years goes unmentioned. Right down to the $15 mill for a herd of elephants. The debt tripled in 3 years alone.

      • cadwallader

Therefore he’s The Chief Pen-Pusher! While you are The Chief Tart by your own definition.

Now this is why I keep logging on to this board. I’ve called you up on a few things whale but I tip my hat to you on this one. Nice work.

More than anything it shows what an amatuer Brown is. He should’ve just said at the time who was there. There would have been zero scandal and zero damage. What a tool.

Len also wants CCTV to fight rising crime.
    http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/newsdetail1.asp?storyID=187433

I think we need CCTV to monitor Len and his cohorts

    • whalewatcher

yeah, probably in the Mayoral Loo – that’s where ‘jobs for the boys’ might be getting sorted out

      • http://pollywannacracka.blogspot.com/ pollywog

…is that continuing on from the tradition Banksie started or are you just wishfully hoping to catch a free peep of Len’s pee pee ???

        • nasska

You mean he had the full sex change?

          • http://pollywannacracka.blogspot.com/ pollywog

who ?… Banks, Brown or whalewatcher ?

dunno. None of my business, but i gotta wonder about a guy who wants CCTV’s in the mayor’s mens toilet hoping to watch them root…

…that’s just a whole heap of wrong

  • gaskranken

I concur with my fellow learned posters, nice one Cam…

Whale 1 – Lenny the Snout nil.

As I have stated already Lenny needs a wikileaks done on his arse.

  • tristanb

Let me be amongst the many to congratulate you for keeping on digging at the dealings of these corrupt politicians.

Pay it back Len – and I don’t just mean the $810 – I mean every dollar of council and participant money that was given to singer Geoff Knight. I’m not living in Manukau, but why should their ratepayers support some ex-gang-member on a trip to Aussie?

This Geoff Knight, who went to high school in Westport, sounds like a complete cock.

This is what he said about the Volare incident:
“[The restaurant owner] paid me a reduced fee as agreed, also gave me a small donation as he thought I was extremely talented and I also got some investment commitment on the night and some good contacts”

Well I’m glad the people of Manukau could help you out there Geoffrey.

For someone who has done these great courses in the 1990s, you’d think he could afford to pay for himself:
    – Future Warrior (Personal development course)
    – Power & Leadership (Personal development course)
    – Money and You (Personal development course)

Knight would have better luck paying Brian Tamaki than these scam courses. Except, of course, I bet is was the taxpayer who footed the bill.

Sorry for getting off track, I know this is about Len. It’s such a pity John Banks is a smarmy fuck, hopefully next time there’s another alternative.

    Good work again Whaleoil.

I’m a little concerned about the way that Doug McKay has phrased this letter. You’d better keep an eye on him as well WO.
