Albany Superette – Get all your P supplies there

I had a call today from someone who had a video of a superette owner in Albany selling P and other drug paraphernalia. So I went over and had a chat then looked at the video and after a bite of lunch went and had a gander at the store itself.

It is the Albany Superette at 372 Rosedale Road, Albany.

I went in and sure enough they have all sorts of pipes from brass ones for dope up to various different glass types for “P” smoking along with various types of bongs.

Right by the pipes at the counter is also different types of energy drinks, the sorts that kids like to buy. Not only that the shop is actually selling “point bags” (empty of course but what else do you put in little bags like that?).

Here is the video.

When my informant filmed the video he was finally escorted from the store and assaulted by the owner and his three sons. At the same time as this was happening he was being watched over by a clear Mongrel Mob associate, all coloured up and complete with tats. He has bruises on his arms to show for it.

This is the store owner who admits on video that he sells pipes to kids, and that those pipes are for smoking “P”.

Albany Superette owner who sells drug pipes

Albany Superette is, 700 metres from Albany Junior High School, 350m from Kristin School, and 900m from Pinehurst School, Albany.

This guy is selling items that have no legal purpose and he is selling them to school kids.

Currently before the house is the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill 2010 which includes the following changes to existing law;

The current offence provision is in Section 22(3) which provides as follows that every person commits an offence against the Act who:

  • supplies a pipe or other utensil whose supply is absolutely prohibited by a notice issued under subsection (1A) (Section 22(3)(a); or
  • supplies a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe or utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be supplied (Section 22(3)(a); or
  • imports a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe or utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be imported (Section 22(3)(a).

The Bill replaces the above current provision with the following more detailed wording:

  • “Every person commits an offence against this Act who:
  • supplies, possesses for the purpose of sale or supply, or offers for sale a pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil whose sale, possession for the purpose of sale or supply, or offering for sale (as the case may be) is absolutely prohibited by a notice issued under subsection (1A) (New Section 22(3)(a)); or
  • “(b) supplies, possesses for the purpose of sale or supply, or offers for sale a pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be supplied, possessed for the purpose of sale or supply, or offered for sale (as the case may be) (New Section 22(3)(b)); or
  • “(c) imports a pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil otherwise than in accordance with any condition under which that pipe, other utensil, or identifiable component of a pipe or other utensil may, under a notice issued under subsection (1A), be imported (New Section 22(3)(c))”. (Part 1, substituted Section 22(3) of the Act).

It is clear that even under current law the Albany Superette may well be acting illegally, certainly when the new law is passed he certainly will be. Not a single one of those items has a legitimate purpose, and worse he is happily selling them to kids. If the powers that be won’t do anything then people power should by boycotting this store until he cleans his act up.

  • jacqueline

I have always been under the impression that it was illegal to sell pipes, and the penalty to the shop was a $10,000 dollar fine.

Considering it is illegal to be in possession of the “utensils” that are used for smoking methamphetamine, this would make sense.

I am almost positive this man is breaking the law. Sadly though, there are shops like this one…everywhere.

    • hapuka

the point is that P is made from ingredients from China and there is no way the chinese govt doesn’t have the ability to tighten the export of p-ingredients. how many of you would like to see our govt stand up to china about this? i bet that none of you would risk a drop in exports to china in order to decrease P. so then the question is, what is your price? how much p will you tolerate?

at least if we had a coke epidemic we’d have some decent fucking clubs….

      • jollyfarmer

After seeing this and asking some question to other I have had enough right now! Deport the prick and his boys.

        • jollyfarmer

If they are selling pipes what else are they selling and how are they hiding the money?

      • xofisher

John doesn’t have the balls to ask!

  • hsv325

Cops should shut the fucker down deport him back to where he come from. Cops and judges need to send a clear ‘don’t fuck with us’ message to people like this pond scum selling this sort of gear to school kids

  • animalmother

Has this video been passed on to the pigstabulary? Have they shown the slightest interest in it? (Considering they were trying to make people who were buying hydroponic supplies provide contact details, and considering that there is even less chance of a meth pipe being used for growing tomatoes)

    • animalmother

I mean, it must be at least as illegal as driving at 43kph near a school?

      • tristanb

Umm, someone selling a brass pipe? Or someone breaking a kid’s spine leaving them paralysed?

Or are you too good a driver to ever have a crash?

    • tristanb

Don’t blame the police. Blame the out-of-touch judges.

You can get cones like this everywhere, I always thought they were used to smoke marijuana. Literally walk into any alternative shop all over the world and you’ll find those little pipes – are you people really that naive? Having said that, I don’t think a dairy is the place for these.

The harm doesn’t come from people smoking some marijuana, it comes from crime associated with it, and the tax-payer cash given to such people if they can’t be bothered working.

Arrest the dealers, arrest the P-users (and not let them off 50 times because they’re been adopted by Paul Holmes), arrest the gang-members who make small towns in this country shit to live in.

      • animalmother

Not entirely where you’re coming from. it’s either legal or it’s not, and if the police want to not even pursue it then the judges whom you seem to be blaming don’t get a look-in. Either you are in favour of P or you’re not and I think you’re not, then it’s a bit disingenuous to say he’s selling innocent pieces of brass. Does he think they’re for plumbing? Where does my driving come into it? For the record I don’t run over schoolkids OR sell “pieces of brass” near schools.

  • bigkev

i think i read somewhere that the shops get around the law by calling them only ‘Ornaments’ and something to do with they are not in the illegal catagory until they have been used

    • jacqueline

Aromatherapy oil burners is what they try to say they are…

Sometimes i wonder, if the police overlook this kind of thing in order to get to the bigger fish? If the police are aware of this guy, and have not yet busted him…lets hope it is because they are following the people that purchase the pipes in order to get to the suppliers of the drug etc etc…

Either way…this shop should be boycotted.

  • toby

This is hardly bust of the century. There are shops up and down K Road that sell pipes. A chap I know was chatting to a cop once, on K Road. He mentioned to the cop “y’know, that dairy over the road sells P pipes and NOS.” The cop’s reply? “I didn’t hear that.” The dairy owners are selling this stuff because they can get away with it. The cops know the dairies sell it, they must certainly know there are gangs involved, Why aren’t they doing anything about it? Too much paperwork? Can’t be fucked? I’d like to think that police are surveilling the shops to discover the identities of the gang members involved and then tracking them to uncover their links to a larger operation. I’d like to think that the beat cop said “I didn’t hear that” because he didn’t want to ruin a large investigation.
But I very much doubt any of that is happening. I think the reality is that the Police are sitting on their hands and making a mockery of John Key’s war on P while he does stupid things like banning cold pills (so I guess he’s making as much of a mockery as they are). I’ll bet they’re saying “But Mr Prime Minister! We need more funding to fight P!” to which he’ll reply “I’ve given you more funding. If you want any more money, get me results.”
“Ah shit, but that would mean doing some work! We’re pretty busy with speeders.”
    But, I digress.

Cameron, I suggest you go further with this. Complaining to the Police doesn’t do jack shit. A report will go into the filing cabinet and that’s all. Go and film more dairies. One dairy on Auckland’s hardened North Shore counts for nothing. Naming and shaming Arthur Wong in Albany is filler news. Instead, hit K Road in one day. Then take on the rest of Auckland. When you have 50 recordings of dairies selling pipes, you’ll have something so big that no churnalist or repeater can steal it without acknowledging you.

I don’t give a fuck about P addicts. They have problems enough already. I don’t give a fuck about dodgy dairy owners. They’re small fry. The pipes themselves don’t mean shit – they’re just a utensil. But the widespread and up-front nature of pipe sales suggests the something about scale of the P problem. I give a fuck about 2 things. 1) Cops not doing their job, and 2) gang run drug rings. It’s because of the gangs that John Key thought it would be a marvellous fucking idea to make me pay for a prescription to get Codral when my nose is blocked up. Thanks a fucking bunch, JK. You’re really making a dent in the P problem. While tonnes of P ingredients are coming in over the border and gangs – local and Asian alike – are raking in the money and saying “aw bro, here’s a loyalty card. Purchase 10 points and I chuck in a free pipe” I’m trying to make do with a shitty pseudo-ephedrine free alternative. AND THAT REALLY FUCKS ME OFF.

BTW, when you make more recordings, don’t go telling the dairy owner you’ve been recording him eh? That will never end well.

  • toby

I wanted to make this post separate.

Why is there no recording of the informant getting roughed up? Was he really dumb enough to switch off the camera before the real serious stuff started happening? If he says that’s how he got his bruises then I can’t dispute that, but the Mob keeps pretty low key on the Shore, y’know?
A question about the video: when the dairy man is asked if school kids come in and buy the P-pipes, the dairy man appears to be answering in the affirmative but his lips don’t really match the words. He is still talking, his words mute, just before a cut in the video and we never get to hear the rest of what he is saying. I’d like to see the whole video in its raw form. I’d like to hear everything the man says and I’d like to see how the video ends.
I don’t dispute that the dairy sells pipes. I know for a fact that it does. I’ve know the dairy and I go there from time to time (no, not for pipes). But this video is hardly a smoking gun as far as any roughing up or gangs links go.

    • gingermock

I wanted to share my opinion on this matter.

I’m a regular customer at the store and like toby here, not for the pipes.
A while ago, there was an anonymous tip from someone to the police that this store is supposedly selling so-called illegal ‘p-pipes’ and when I visited, the police came to investigate on the matter.
I had a chat with the fella and the officers and the act of selling these pipes were completely legal as far as the law goes and there is absolutely no problem with it.

Now, I have gotten to know the owner better as I regularly visit the store for my daily dose of Reece’s chocolates (not many stores stock these, unfortunately haha). And I have not once got the impression that the owner would be involved in illegal trade of any form, let alone have associations with mobs?!
I do know personally that the owner’s English isn’t as good as…(let’s just say) us and it seems rather convenient that the video was edited right after he answers “yes”.
Like toby here, I’d like to see the full footage in its raw format.

I got a bit sidetracked and my comment got longer than expected but the point is this. I agree with toby here and would like to see the full footage unedited.

and this same useless fucker was out of trim milk on Wednesday!

    • jacqueline

      LOL

      • xofisher

Maybe the P is in the milk or an added bonus?

  • oswaldbastable

The cops raid the place, charge him, spend two weeks on filing the paperwork and some wanking judge gives him a slap on the hand with a bus ticket.

THAT is why the plods ain’t interested!

    • titanuranus

Yep, I`m with you Os,the judiciary is actively undermining law and order in this country.
Number 1 reason why rapists and murderers a roaming at will. No incentive for the cops to arrest them ,when they know some fuckwitted judge will release the scum back on the street within the hour.

      • mediatart

Its a bit early to be on the juice TU?
Muderers and rapists are not roaming at will. Name one !
AS for judges ‘releasing within the hour’. Hardly . You have to be held for a court appearance for that. Usually the next day. The system is designed to hold everyone arrested , like some police state.
Half the people processed by the court system are ‘wet bus ticket’ offences. So thats not an excuse. The cops are assidious about prosecuting such offences as it boosts their ‘clearance rate’
The real reason is that the local cops are lazy, not bothering to do a little undercover work themselves as the video taker did.

        • jacqueline

That is a load of bollox…i was released after two hours when i was arrested, and did not appear in court until the following week. The police do not hold everyone until they have a court appearance.

          • mediatart

You were released after 2 hours – by the police ( not the judges)
            Proves my point
A mis type left out one word in my comment further back. The system is NOT designed to hold everyone arrested.

        • gaskranken

Can’t give you a murderer or rapist but I put this guy in the same category and there is no way this fuckhead shoukld be walking around `free range’

Mediatart ya doufous havent ya heard of a thing called Police Bail – applies to all but the most serious or urgent offences. (Indictable charges or likely to reoffend offenders)

If ya do want to hold someone the plods have to do an opposition to bail report which takes several hours of serious typing – ya don’t do these lightly – reserved for the most serious fruit cakes.

Grow a brain please as you sound really ignorant

    • mediatart

Exactly. The police release them after a few hours , not the judges. Proves my point

  • titanuranus

L O L , and mediatart thinks I`m on the piss, she should pull her head out of her arse and have a look around at the world behind her computer screen.

  • mediatart

Well everybody else has confirmed what I have said. The judges arent releasing them within a few hours. Its the police who are letting them go, more specifically the watch house serjeant.
Whos backing up what you said? . The same number whos having a drink with you. None. Anyway its the hols , a surprising number are on the juice by 10am.

  • robf

    Didn’t this post degenerate fast.
Somebody mentioned funding. When has funding really related to results?
A b grade American president announced a war on drugs and funding for it. Decades later the war is still going, the funding has increased some 22 times more than the original funding adjusted for inflation. The result more drugs on the streets of America than ever before.
A c grade prime Minister in NZ announces a war on drugs and bans over the counter cold medicine. The result will be a big fat F grade. I can hardly wait for Mr. Smile and Wave’s next brain Fart.
The cold hard reality is that drugs both legal and illegal are extremely profitable in short they have more money to throw at the problem than the Government. Not to mention a willing market.
Getting back to the funding issue what result have we got for the Billions we have thrown at the Maori problem, over the last few decades, seems to be more issues than ever, it is a bit like throwing petrol on a fire and hoping it will go out.
What is the definition? When you do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.

    • gaskranken

Only got one word for the success of Americas war on drugs – `Mexico’

  • marybelle

No wonder the police are fighting a losing battle. Where does most of the P drug product come from? Answer: Asia eg China.
About 6 years ago I was told by a Chinese friend that the NZ Labour Government was letting in a lot of bad Chinese immigrants and only the Chinese knew who they were. This Albany Superette owner is one of them. If only Helen Clark’s government had listened to Police Association President Greg O’Connor’s warning in the NZ Herald Feb 16, 2002: “Gangs mean big business” Friday Feb 16, 2002 http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=939589
“The streets of New Zealand are awash with methamphetamines,” says O’Connor, “and the growth of methamphetamines and the growth of gangs are synonymous.”
Now look at NZ streets nine years down the rack. The P drug is in the local dairy/superette!
This has GOT to be an election issue.

    Something I missed:
“Not only that the shop is actually selling “point bags” (empty of course but what else do you put in little bags like that?).”

Seriously? Oh come on. THIS MAN IS SELLING TINY PLASTIC BAGS! GET THAT FUCKER! If you’re going to claim that plastic bags are drug dealing enablers, perhaps we’d better get them banned from all stationery stores as well. Hell, let’s just do a Jim Anderton and ban little baggies altogether.

Nah, let’s not instead. Let’s be sensible for a moment. It’s not the pipes that are the problem. It’s not the baggies. If you sell a glass pipe to a kid, so what? What’s he going to do, go home and smoke a point while doing homework? Drug users are nothing if not inventive in their means of of consuming drugs. Take away the pipes, they’ll smoke from lightbulbs instead. Take away the little baggies, they’ll use folded paper. Go after the dealers.

    • xofisher

Drug trade from my understanding is a chain and this (P pipes) is a link in the chain of NZ’s devastation.

      • toby

I think describing it as a chain is not very accurate. If you remove a link from a chain, it is broken. If you remove pipes from the chain… well, it won’t break the drug trade. People can smoke out of improvised pipes.

  • jollyfarmer

I feel sorry for the cops, its like there an ant crawling up an elephants ass with rape of their mind. Change the law to zone trounce, bust them and get the buggers braking rocks in the great outdoors.

  • mervtheswerve

Interesting……… it seems odd to me that if this guy was roughed up by the Mob, then their priority would be to protect their client (being said dairy owner). Now if they knew what he was up to in the first place (which you would assume they would, because unless they are in the store on a 24 hour basis which I doubt) then they must have been tipped off themselves that this guy is up to something. Now if this was such a big secret that need to be protected they would want to destroy all evidence, hide it or render it unusable, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense that he didn’t lose the camera (or have the fear of god put into him that if this was made public then he possibly wouldn’t see the light of day again). Selling of instruments to partake in illegal activity has been going on for ever in a day, gosh you can go to the hardware store and buy a crowbar, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to go jemmy the nearest locked door you came across!! Sure a pipe is a pipe (what the hell else are you going to do with it??) but a lightbulb is a lightbulb until you remove it’s working parts and turn it into a pipe. To try and crack down on the instruments makes no sense when it’s the drug itself that is doing the damage.

  • xofisher

Paul Holmes and Millie comes to mind when P is mentioned to me. I get the feeling that it follows his shadow were ever he goes but that this is also check book media for him. You have to ask yourself what lies people are telling themselves to have this drug or any come into their lives.

  • xofisher

What did the trust pay P Holmes and there other directors?

He spent $61,000 on a fundraiser with a heap of pub lic ity for the B-Grade celebri ties that attended and raised just $3000 from the tight-fisted pricks.
