The sort of sentiment we don't need

I have just been sent the attached email via the tipline.

It is from Max Legg, Senior Minister of Victory Church in Auckland and was sent to all MPs and other elected officials. In the email he says:

However, I do believe this Quake is a sign also to all New Zealanders, that the Nation as a whole has to wake- up to serious mistakes along the way.

Often these kind of acts, (eg.Quakes) are outside man’s control, and are warnings to tell us we are going off track.

NZ cannot go on murdering 18,000 unborn children, Undermining the God given authority of parents to discipline their children, Legalising prostitution , homosexual unions,( in kind to marriage), allowing youngsters to easily have access to alcohol, allowing repeat offenders to drive and kill.

The punishments are not matching the crime, and on and on the list goes. These acts bring a curse on the Nation.

This is exactly the sort of fundamentalism that we don’t need in New Zealand, or in our politics.

About the only thing he didn’t do in that email was blame Mark Hotchin.

Email from Max Legg

Whaleoil, I think you should point out that this email wasn’t sent to all MPs yesterday, but last year (September 10th), and that this minister forwarded it to perhaps an inner circle.

Just for accuracies sake else it looks like he sent that in response to the earth quake yesterday.

Berend, read the email again. This chump re-sent it yesterday to MPs, city councillors and a few other assorted people on a general mail list. He was reminding them of what he said back then. Almost gloating. He is a fuckwit.

It doesn’t matter when this silly note was despatched. The guy is obviously an idiot with a “blame the gods they’re angry” belief. A belief in spooks doesn’t assist anyone or any releif effort.

If what he says is true, then why has God apparently singled out the churches for special treatment – including Christchurch Cathedral?

  • jmac

    Facepalm indeed.

I was glad to see some much more astute commentary from Pastor Wally Behan of St Johns Latimer square. He claimed we cannot know exactly why this happened at this time.

Max however, needs to quit talking about things he doesn’t know about, especially when hundreds remain trapped in the rubble. Disgraceful.

We at St. Johns miss Wally since his retirement in July/ August last year. Top bloke.

    • Ciaron

Wally is a top bloke. Greatly missed by the congregation since his retirement in July last year.

Talking of Toss-Pots I recall after the September quake Whale headed a post “Jim’s Campaign Is Rooted!” It was too. I cringe at the thought of Jim Il-Sung as Mayor of anywhere but particularly not CHCH at this time. Bob Parker is his usual measured and constructive self. At terrible times strong credible leadership is an essential and thankfully CHCH (and) NZ has that.

  • bobbydelorot

What an utter peice of vile twisted shit he is. That also means that he worships a god whom he believes is vengeful, evil and thinks nothing of killing a hundred plus completely innocent people including young children and babies because he’s ‘pissed off’….

    • cadwallader

Absolutely correct! As Richard Dawkins once wrote “the God of the Old Testament is the nastiest character in all fictional literature!”

  • daveg

    What a fucking nutjob.

  • Mr Blobby

Complete Nut Job he may be.
But he does make some good points until he walks off the cliff with the hell and damnation stuff.

It disturbs me that a Christian Minister could have such a lack of understanding of basic theology. Has he not read the book of Job? He sounds like one of the Miserable Comforters in that book.

    • jmac

Blair, with ordination or a basic bachelors degree not a required qualification in most churches, of course you’ll wind up with a bunch of cowboys. A certain Auckland ‘Bishop’ would be a good example. Compounding this, is the relative lack of action from other church leaders towards such people.

As Ciaron mentioned, there are still excellent churchmen like Wally Behan of St Johns around, but they really get the limelight.

A Legg-pull surely? Little wonder that Christians get such a bad rap. Is Max a mate of the Rodney boys?
