Note to self Trev, Don't hit reply to all

A citizen emailed all MPs, Trevor Mallard, ever the sharp tack when it comes to technology replied to the emailer but he hit reply all.

It is interesting that Trevor claims to have voted against the bill, which of course he did, but not for the reasons he is pretending to. Remember that Labour firstly removed private property rights from all New Zealanders by passing their first Foreshore and Seabed bill, not the least Maori who lost their right to go to court. Then after the Maori party formed and then went into coalition with National Labour first had a change of mind and said they would support the bill, then they changed their minds again and said they wouldn’t support. Labour is voting against this bill for no other reason than it is against the government. They aren’t doing it from some principled stance that the bill is wrong. Their position all along has been to prevent Maori or anyone else going to court to explore their private and/or customary rights.

For the record I don’t think this bill is very clear and I fail to see why we shouldn’t just overturn Labour’s bill and go back to the way it was before Helen Clark blinked in the face of a court challenge.

I voted against it last night and it looks like the next round will not be until next week. Can I suggest you make an appointment to go to your nearest National MP at their clinic this weekend. But the way this government is working it is a matter of voting National and getting the Maori Party pulling the strings.

Dear Member of Parliment,

I am writing to you with deep concern regarding the bill for the foreshore and seabed that the Government is trying to rush through.
As a fellow New Zealander, i am deeply disappointed that you would be involved in trying to remove what should rightfully belong to the public of New Zealand.
Especially, trying to rush this through while everyone is distracted and grieving from a horrendous event that has shaken this country to its core.

You are dividing this country even further by taking away every kiwi’s right to access the coastline, and putting this into the hands of a few.
What is the point of being in this country if EVERYONE is not EQUAL and has the same rights and acce! ss to this beautiful country and what it has to offer?

I ask you this….. What right does the Govenment have to take this away from everyone?
You are a member of Parliment because we the people have placed you there for the sole purpose of representing New Zealanders. That is ALL New Zealanders….. NOT just the few.
So, as we reach this point; a moment in time where as a decent fellow Kiwi; would you hold on to your integrity and take a stand that would protect ALL the people of the country that you are supposed to be looking after. Will you as our representivie STOP this division of our country and STOP THE BILL

You need to ask yourself……

Is it fair that the threshold test for customary title has been significantly lowered to make it easier for iwi to claim?

Is it fair that iwi won’t have to prove their claims in court?

Is it fair that politicians can give away your beach without asking you, telling you, or giving you any right of appeal? Ask them if it’s fair that politicians can swap your beach for votes
in a coalition deal with the Māori Party – just so they can stay in power?

Is it fair that traditional local usage has been extended to “customary interests” giving iwi! power over the entire coastline. In addition customary title gives iwi more rights to: minerals; all newly found “taonga tūturu”; other development rights; and the right to develop a plan which regional councils must recognise and provide for? *

Is it fair that iwi will be able to exclusively develop the marine area, including fish farming, without (according to legal experts) having to ask the public?

Is it fair t! hat iwi will be able to vet o the rights of others to commercially use the coast?

Is it fair that the bill turns the burden of proof around so the Crown will now have to prove customary rights were legally extinguished, rather than iwi having to prove they were not?

Is it fair that iwi will be able to ban people from all beaches and fishing spots by declaring wāhi tapu (and fine you if you trespass)?

Is it fair that one in ten kilometres of ! our coastline could be given to iwi as soon as the bill passes into law? And the Māori Party has said they won’t be satisfied until the entire coast is in Māori hands.

If this bill is passed, which will be against the wishes of the majority of the New Zealand people, you will be forcing me, my family and my friends, and whoever else I can communicate with, to vote for the party’s that have not supported this bill, that will actually be a trustworthy representative of our actual needs and wishes. Someone else that will actually be a true representative of what the New Zealand people want.

I hold high hopes that you will hold on to your integrity and keep your word that you have given to New Zealand to protect thier wishes and STOP THIS BILL FROM GOING ANY FURTHER!

Please do this for the people that you are there to represent.
OUR coastline is part of who we are as a country. Don’t take this away….. Please.

Regards,
Kxxxx Lxxx.

whale I don’t think it’s any surprise that trev is a dick head. I mean he’s a mp for one and if that wasn’t bad enough he’s in the labour party.

That said I also don’t think any person in their right mind can possibly have any opinion other than this bill is tinkerbell giving some payola to his former (and future?) employers. This bill is a matter of great shame for the national party. Every mph who voted for it should hang their heads. Scum the lot.
