What a sad little man

Phil Goff is a sad, deluded little man desperate for relevance.

He put out a press release declaring victory in Botany and appeared on TVNZ saying the right wing was slaughtered in Botany. Sad, sad, sad.

His press release claims there was a significant swing to labour without explaining where the swing came from. We know from the number that it wasn’t from National, nor was it from Act.

He makes these claims on the basis that Act’s vote dropped. He ignores the fact that the New Citizens party got over 10%. If he had even a cursory look at the policies of the New Citizens Party he would find that in many ways they are more right wing than Act.

But that doesn’t suit his meme or the meme of the paid lap-bloggers at The Standard.

The other thing Phil Goff neglects to look at was the complete absence of any Green votes, because their candidate got caught in traffic and missed the deadline to register. The claimed swing to Labour is in fact the soaking up of Green voters and therefore isn’t a swing at all, more like a swing and a miss.

However if Phil Goff and Labour want to remain delusional in the face of National’s vote holding up in a by-election where history has shown government’s get punished, then so be it, let them remain delusional, and sad. And let them carry that through to the election and we will be entertained by watching Phil Goff explain that the left won when he is still the opposition leader for another term, or until Maryan Street cuts his hamstrings and leaves him bleeding in the gutter.

Keep going as you are Goff, you are the best opposition any party could want…

Whale – Delusional is an apt word for Goff, but until he realises that he is delusional if he feels that he can even make it to this years election, let alone win it!

Said it before, will say it again “Goff is a tired old has-been”

Funny how sweet FA of labours supporters actually vote for them.
Goff is the epitome of PATHETIC.

  • arnie

It is so obvious that the so called news media do not do their homework and find out facts before asking for comments, and these comments become absolute nonsense and no use to any one.

    • whafe

Agree totally, it doesnt seem to invoke the media to pull their heads out of their asses and cover a story properly… Fuckwits they are

Phil Goff I honestly think he has passed his used by date, i think you will have Labour polling less than last election and more votes going to the smaller parties, Labour aren’t a credible party to lead the country, not that National are doing much better, a sad reflection of this country’s politics and the quality of our politicans, however we have had a dysfunctional bunch of people running this country for a long time starting with the infamous “P**** Muldoon”.

How many of these guys would you put in charge of running your company, I don’t think Phil Goff has actually had a proper job in his life.

He and Helen Clark sat together at lectures in Political Science at Auckland University.

    I think the Vernon Small’s Dom-Post article:
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/4738504/Low-voter-turnout-keeps-Botany-blue
is a reasonable surmise of the situation – I think it was reasonable for it to quote Phil Goff.

What the article did not mention is even if the ruling party is trashed in a byelection it does not necessarily mean the party is in peril at the next general election. In this instance, National was not trashed which ever way you look at it.

Compare with Mana where Labour was trashed to within an inch of defeat. Labour should have made gains there.

It also shows how inept our media are. Whatever happened to correcting him and and stating some facts to him?

  • Mr Blobby

Why are the commentators here so afraid of the Goff Father?
It is the sad state of party politics in New Zealand that the best candidate has no chance of winning (Botany).
What happened to the 10,000 vote majority.

I am **really** looking forward to seeing Goof’s concession speech after the election this year. Mind you, it won’t be as satisfying as seeing Clarkzilla defeated last time – that was ***GREAT***. I still remember seeing her/it getting in the car outside its house, “smile” fixed in place in case it burst into tears.

  • Oh Dear

Goff is being economical with the truth.

Notice how he says that National had their Majority slashed… he says “The National candidate’s majority was slashed from more than 11,000 in 2008 to just under 4000 yesterday”

But when he refers to his candidate he uses a percentage…21%-28%.

But if we use the logic of his first numbers we could say…Labour had their vote slashed from 6510 to 4154.

    What a jackass he is.

In a bizarre way it is quite understandable for Goof to claim a win as it is likely this drubbing will be the nearest thing he’ll ever get to a victory. It is less understandable for the losers at the Standanistas to ply this nonsense. How much do we as taxpayers, funneled through Liabour, pay for their bullshit? I truly have no idea!
