Cactus for Act?

Apparently, news to me, but Audrey knows everything:

Cathy Odgers, the author of the acerbic website Cactus Kate, is expected to be approved today as an Act candidate – one of the reasons sitting MP Heather Roy is likely to today announce she will stand down at this year’s election.

Cathy Odgers is a corporate lawyer who lives in Hong Kong.

She is back in New Zealand and this week attended a private surprise party for former leader Rodney Hide in his favoured Newmarket haunt, the Mecca cafe and bar.

Prime Minister John Key also called in to the party for a couple of hours and spoke in glowing terms about Epsom MP Mr Hide, who was deposed as Act leader by Don Brash in April. The Act board is meeting in Auckland today.

Cathy Odgers’ blog, Cactus Kate, has been scathing about people in the party she believed had been disloyal to Mr Hide and undermined his leadership.

However, after the coup in April, she called for the infighting to stop and for the party to unite behind Dr Brash.

I just bet now that Heather Roy cutting and pasting furiously from Cactus’ blog and putting names to posts in an attempt to out her inveterate rooting. I say this out of my understanding that the person behind the outing of David Garrett’s criminal past was Heather herself, after he told a few home truths about her to her face in an ACT meeting.

Unfortunately for Heather this would not be a wise course of action ad I know Cactus is a follower and adherent to Whaleoil’s Rules of Politics in particular Rule 2, and she has more than enough stories about Heather Roy’s duplicity during her time as an ACT MP.

I reckon that Cathy should be an MP, she would be the most honest out there even if it up sets people. Since I have a track record of rating politicians when they are seeking office I thought I would do my usual pros and cons:

Pros
Not a grumpy old man
Lawyer with actual considerable business experience
International track record dealing with private and public sectors
Pots of cash and many ex boyfriends with pots of cash
Subscribes to the “No Dickheads” Rule
Business Roundtable approved candidate with free market purity
Conflicts completely with conservative Banks/Brash attitudes
Proven and loyal ACT voting record

Cons
Little patience for arseholes of all types of political persuasions
Subscribes to the “No Dickheads” Rule
Self-confessed rooter with terrible wandering eye and dubious taste in men
Promotes the use of alcohol and drugs
Conflicts completely with conservative Banks/Brash attitudes
She doesn’t have a pink Remington 870 pump in 20g
Will she take the pay cut? And does she really wish to be in a list position high enough to be elected?

She would be an honest politician, they are few and far between. If you are looking for an endorsement then you can do no better than those of her enemies.

Bomber is frothing before lunch-time on a Saturday. The man who willingly supports the truly hate-ful and racist Hone Harawira is shuddering like a dog shitting razor-blades at the mere thought of the prospect of Cathy Odgers telling it how it is. If Bomber was half the man that Cathy is he would stop sniping from the sidelines and participate in democracy. if he believes in the bro-letariat uprising that the Mana party allegedly represents then he should man up and put his name forward with other intellectual luminaries like Sue Bradford and John Minto and Willie Jackson. He won’t because he is a coward.

    I think you’ll find her parents are Waikato dairy farmers.

    She knows more about the nz export sector than all the dumbells in Labour and the Greens put together.

    I think she is exactly the sort of person the ACT party needs, if it is to survive the Brash interlude.

      I’ve been wanting to ask for a while now. If Brash is so terrible for you Key-fellators now, how come he was so fantastic when he saved the party when English destroyed it in 2002?

    Anything that syntheses ACT with a valuable and fertile further demo such as professional women is an asset. Also Brash and Banks do need some refreshment and Calvert and Boscowan don’t do it. This is not to say all four of these aren’t very good in their own ways.

    She’ll need to tone herself down considerably at all times in public in order to maximise her appeal and if she does that successfully she’ll be a huge party vote puller but all it will take is a few lapses into character and the media will make sure it’s all over, rover. But she’s well aware of that and I don’t expect any problem there.

      She will need to adopt the Palin* strategy. The MSM are the left’s agents. They are the enemy and must be treated as such.

      *Yes I know many fucktards who read and comment here think Palin is some dumb, inbred redneck. I happen not to but that isn’t the point of my comment.

          The headline of it was in my original comment. “The MSM are the left’s agents.” To expound further: They will twist your words, edit their sound & vision to cast you in the worst possible light, choose an epithet and stick with it whenever your name is mentioned (e.g. ‘far-right ACT party’). In Palin’s case they chose ‘dumb’ (against Barry Soetero’s ‘smart’) and ‘unqualified’ (against Barry’s eminent qualifications, even though he’s nothing more than a CHicago Community Organiser who refused to release any records). In Cactus’ case they might pick up on her proclivity for rich, single men and come up with an epithet associated with that. It’s all the same thing. If you’re opposed to big-government, statist, union-controlled solutions to every known problem you must be maligned and destroyed.

            Notwithstanding I happen to agree with the Palin strategy in the case of Palin, I agree with what you say.

            I just wish they’d do it, to the right people. For example they didn’t do it to Hulun, Cullen, Peters when they could have and should have.

            They’re complete fools.

            The don’t do it to people like the Klarkenfuhrer for the same reason as they don’t publish or publicise the real science on ‘climate change’. They (the MSM) are the left’s Goebbels. Their propaganda wing, in the same way as the union movement are the left’s footsoldiers.

            Apart from that of course they were shit scared of the klarkenfuhrer. She knew where all the bodies were buried and most journos knew that if they dared write anything less than complimentary about her or the regime, theirs would be the next to be buried!
