A reply from the Electoral Commission

I got this reply from the Electoral Commission today:

Dear Mr Slater

Thank you for your e-mail of 20 July 2011 laying a complaint that a Labour Party flyer was recently distributed to electors in the Henderson area.

The Electoral Commission is currently considering the complaint and will write to you further once we have concluded our consideration of the matter.

    I ahev always considered the electoral commission to be useless when addressing these transgressions, which allowed certain groups to break electoral laws with impunity. This is becoming a great exercise in seeing how and why they operate.

    One has to wonder what happens in the back rooms up there. I wager the staff are all PSA members.

    No, they will ask a lawyer for a legal opinion. Then they will study the opinion. They might get a second opinion. Then they will roundtable a way forward. The course of action will be tabled and opened for discussion. The commissioner will thank everyone for their attendance. Morning tea will be served. The officer in charge of wine biscuits will be missing. Coffee will be drunk. A decision will be made.

    And then it will be referred to the Police for action. And when they pull finger it will be too late to do anything.
