Listener on Antidepressants

There is a new Listener on the magazine racks this week, the cover story is about antidepressants. It has been with subscribers since last Friday. I picked up a copy at the supermarket tonight to see what was written.

I was interviewed for this article by Ruth Laugeson. I gave it to her straight about my six years of hell and why my life is so much better now without the chemicals.

Go buy the Listener and learn a bit about antidepressants and what they do to you.

They have their place for treatment of newly diagnosed severe depression, but for a long term recovery plan they are not a good option.

I know that like you, i find exercise to be the best anti depressant, and the worse i feel before i start – the better i feel when i am running back up my driveway.

    Anyway – will grab it!

It is my freakin shadow…sometimes I can’t see it when the sun is shining in my face other days it is right there stalking me.

Yes sir..message received and understood………My lovely supportive wife & I are off for 2 weeks break to try and shake the bastard, before it is to late.

I hear what your saying, been there too.I have found if you keep moving the bastard thing cant catch you.. but it is always there one step behind. I got ahead of it ( just , most of the time…) I honestly don’t believe its curable, but it is controllable.Hang in there guys you can do it .

  • Lofty

Sorry.. looking at the :”your discussions” it looks like I am dominating… not intended.

Good on you Cam; I’d love to give my tablets the flick, but at the moment they seem to be having a positive effect, so I’ll persevere. But a big ups to you for getting drug-free, and back to work.

I have been off mine for 5 months after 3 years on. I do miss them sometimes. It was such a relief getting on them but sooner or later you need to find out what life is like without them. They don’t work for everyone, they are not a long term option for me, but the fact is some people will need them for life.

Some studies have shown a link between Vitamin B12 deficiency and depression. I found taking sub-lingual B12 for even a short time made a difference.

I’m Going to stick my neck out here..
I’ve been stuck to my computer for 2 hrs doing GST and i’ve had a brain fart.
How about someone with a mancave , pool table , bar, big tv etc has a meeting with people like us. A few people , like us talking about our shit , while doing something at the same time , rather than sitting in a circle at some outpatient centre. “Hang on mate .I need to pop the 6 in the top pocket..ok carry on…
The standard “treatment” doesn’t work, it didn’t for me and it didn’t for my brother who took his own life 3 years ago.
Working through it while doing something at the same time has kept me going , maybe it would work for others too.
    Your thoughts everyone ??

    • Dyannt

That’s a good idea, Greg. Next to natural health solutions I’m a great believer in mancaves. I can’t think of a womens equivalent just at the moment. I’m sure someone would have an idea.

After trying several of the top ten antidepressants
and never feeling exactly right – and gaining at least 30 pounds per episode -
after only 2 weeks on Pristiq I have never felt better and have energy and the
    desire to live and exercise.
