3 News Poll

Despite all their efforts to help Winston Peters and promote themselves, Duncan Garner and Patrick Gower must be a bit disappointed with their efforts.

This is the second poll today that also shows Labour still slipping and the Greens hoovering up their support.

Labour must be despondent, there isn’t a single thing they can do to lift their ratings despite the best efforts of the media to assist them this week.

  • Mattyman

It would be good to see Catherine Issacs in parliament. Stupid Patrick Gower cheap shots on Act and National don’t seem to be working.

  • Kosh103

Well it is good to see National heading in the right direction in the polls. Now Labour just has to fix their incorrect direction.

    • Peter Wilson

Has anyone noticed if Labour doesn’t win the election, they will be stuck with the tag of the party that wants to increase the age of super, and to introduce a capital gains tax. Unless they are going to say, “well, ok we were wrong about that.”

    • greenmuppet

Dear Kosh103, are you sure you are not overstimulating yourself? Better save it for the election night.

For something that has been going sideways like Labour  it makes no sense talking about direction.

      • Kosh103

In order for NZ to get back on track National needs to be going in the direction it is. Down.

Now Labour just needs to start gaining ground.

        • Alex Shvarts9

Labour can only go down, old no hoppers that been around since eighties. They have no hope until they get some new blood.

          • Kosh103

Labour will eventually go up, and National will keep going down. And then we will have the correct party back in govt.

          • sandynobb

“the correct party” – Stalinist fantasies of a Helengrad apparatchik. I guess you can only go up when you’re at rock bottom.

          • EX Navy Greg

at the current rate , that will take until 2043, thats OK with me

          • Alsh

            Dream on. Another three years.

          • Troy

yup, labour will eventually go up.. maybe by 2023 if they are lucky.

        • greenmuppet

I am with you. It’s a beautiful beautiful dream.

  • Johnboy

Who is the little fat ugly bastard with his hand wavering on the 1.3% Maori?

    • Guest

And how does that fat ugly bastard pull so many young chicks without his new wife knowing about it?

Did he train under the Trev school of philandary?

      • Johnboy

Obviously he has a very vibratory hand and he knows how to use it.

      • Gazzaw

Surplus of media studies grads & the old casting couch trick?

    • Dave

Stopped watching TV3 from yesterday.  I swear Garner had a hard on when he was talking down National and Key.  Balanced ?  Bah!  Journalism is dead.  TV1 fro me now I’m afraid, feel like I’ve suddenly aged 20 years.

  • Peter Wilson

Oops, I read the related post  3 News Poll and thought it was the latest one: National 45% Labour 37% I should have twigged when posts mentioned Helen all over the place. Wife nearly called for an ambulance.

  • thor42

Good stuff.  Looking like Labour will have at least three more years getting used to the Opposition benches. Good job.
Uncle Helen will be sooo disappointed…..

    • Johnboy

Wipe the slobber off your chin thor42. We don’t want to look to self satisfied now do we?

    • Tony

Beyond that – Labour will be dragged to the left by the Greens/Mana allowing national to retain the centre – pretty much like pre-1984.

  • Jimmie

I think the way John Key has handled this tape saga is quite similar to a high stakes poker game. He has gone with a gut instinct that almost all pollies and observers have called a mistake.

It is probably similar to calls he used to make when currency trading – time will tell if his call was right.

What it has done is completely drown out Labour’s electioneering messages for the last few days  and I think it has put paid to a suggestion that he is sleep walking to victory.

It has also put paid to any suggestion that the Media have been subtly going easy on Key and National during this election period.

Its almost like Key has said  ’pfft Labour isn’t any competition for me how about I goad the media to gang up against me to even things up a little.

So far the poll results have been on his side.

If it works a lot of people will say in hindsight that his stand was a master stroke similar to a baffling move made by a chess grandmaster that wins the game for them – time will tell.

    • Peter Wilson

Absolutely. Look at the way the opposition and media are personally attacking Key’s credibility, honesty, lack of transperancy etc. Mana from heaven, because the electorate doesn’t like negative campaigning. Do people really need an excuse to like Campbell any less?

Perhaps National had their own polling that showed Labour was making inroads with their issues like asset sales and the CGT, and it was actually National that needed the game changer.

    • Johnboy

Your on to it Jimmie. The pensioners revelations haven’t exactly fucked JK

I’m waiting for the end game. Suck the prats in then relieve them of their cash.

All those years at Merrill Lynch can’t have been wasted!!

    • max_power

Not sure I agree Jimmie but concede its possible. However if the whole thing was by design once the taper presented the opportunity: i.e. the police involvement was designed when they saw they could derail Liarbore, then how come Key used such a totally vapid and forseeably dangerous analogy in the suicide comparison?

I mean, that was nuts. It was. He could have easily used any number of other analogies which didn’t have the fatal complication of being at risk of attack from parents/relatives of suicides, one of whom was on Morning Report this morning.

I mean d’oh, crikey, et al. Why did he have to pick that one, if it was all a managed message strategy?

Another thing is you would have had to have a media master strategist on this, who could engineer how to make the media forget anything else by dangling something shiny, which is easy to say, incredibly hard to do, especially to do as well as it has turned out, almost unheard of. And while I greatly respect Griffin, he’s the only one I know of with anything even approaching the skillset to pull this off, if it was all by design.

This is not to say it’s not possible Jimmie, you do raise an interesting possibility, thanks for that.

  • thor42

In the New Year, I want to see the Nats take the bulldozer to Bludging for Families – the most wasteful bit of tax-THEFT by a Labour government ever.

    • Johnboy

Do you own property thor? If so do you own weapons?

Turning back 80 years of welfare will not be an easy prospect.

The underclass are alive and almost well and breeding at unprecedented speed due to Governmental intervention.

Interfere with it at your peril. You have been warned.

      • thor42

Bludging for Families (aka Working for Families) has only existed for a few years and is given to workers. Not just low-paid workers either – its reach is pretty high up the pay scale.
Given that it’s not yet entrenched, it *could* be removed, and the removal sweetened by the only decent policy Labour has – making the first $5,000 of earnings exempt from income tax.

  • Apolonia

Great to see TV3 mentioning the Conservative party, but why have they got “no change beside it”
Could it be that they were in the previous poll and TV3 chose not to reveal that information.
Interesting also that the Conservatives are polling higher than some of those in last nights debate.

  • Roger de Laborde

I see the Herald’s spin is “National takes a tumble in polls after teapot tape”
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=10766815&ref=rss

  • Peter Wilson

BTW, if any prosecution went ahead for breach of privacy – and I understand there is a penalty of 2 years jail – who would serve the time? The camerman for sure, but what about TV3, who would actually go to jail?

    • Johnboy

That scrawny arsed little “creep” as Helen called him would be a good choice IMHO.

The sisters would make his eyes even closer together than they are now.

  • Evan Johnson

You will find the full impact of John Key’s brain explosions has not registered yet although the early trend is downward.  Apparently polling has been over the last five days – and how things have changed day by day.

I also have my doubts about the Greens’ figure, not showing more impact of the defacing of billboards.

Keep up the spin for now Cameron, enjoy it while it lasts.

    • thor42

      Nice wishful thinking there, Evan.
Most voters realise that there are *far* more important issues than this pathetic left-wing smear attempt on Key.
The phrase “storm in a teacup” comes to mind.

      • http://keepingstock.blogspot.com/ Inventory2

Matthew Hooten referred to National’s internal polling on RadioLive this afternoon. They’d been steady at 53% until Tuesday. Yesterday, AFTER Key’s interview walk-out, National was UP to 54%. The public sees what the media’s agenda is Evan; they aren’t as thick as you Labour guys treat them.

      • Ben R001

Hehe I thought it gave a new definition to storm in the teacup ;-)
Although being trivial here, didnt JK drink coffee at that cafe?

      • Evan Johnson

It is a polarising issue for sure.  John Key will never be the same to the public again.  Forget the socialism angle, its Winston Peters that is reaping.

        • Gazzaw

For once I have to agree with you Evan. Some of the public wrongly assessed the PM as being all smile and no substance. The last few days have removed any such illusions.

          • Anonymous

Agreed Gazzaw, JK made a decision and will stick with it , something the  left has no idea how to do

  • Nick K

This is bad news for National.

    • Gazzaw

      How so?

  • john66

The unrelenting and blatent bias by TV3 and the Herald over this teapot fiasco, is probably one of the worst character assassinations of a PM in living memory.
One would have to go as far back as 1975, when there was the Citizens for Rowling campaign against Muldoon, aided by the  media’s hatred of the man then.
Muldoon went on to win a landslide election victory with 48% of the vote (two thirds of the seats under FPP !!), after voters rejected the dirty smear tactics of the third estate. One can only hope that Kiwis, as reflected in tonight’s two polls, have equally rejected the smear tactics of  the news media ( Herald/TV3.)

    • Macrobertson

Yeah well said John.  I can’t believe the number of snivelling socialists in the media – you couldn’t pay me to watch TV3 and those twats Garner and Campbell.  What a bloody embarrasment!  Talk about trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill!  Our media has become tabloid trash orientated with a Womans weekly mentality!  And before any of you pathetic little snivellers start crying about how National is favoured by the media consider this.

Three years ago when the Peters fiasco was in its prime and the day we all found out whether he would be impeached (by the way, the only thing that saved him were those corrupt Labour and Green idiots on the panel),  arguably the biggest political scandal to ever hit this country, guess what was top news that night?  A bloody 6 year old Chinese scone grabber lip-sinking at the opening of the olympics!!!!!  I rest my case!

Why aren’t the media trying to find out what happened to the 13 BILLION that Cullen was crowing about 6 months before the last election – remember, when we were already in recession yet Labour were telling us we were in the best shape since the last depression!  What a joke!  Labour are basing all their promises on a CGT policy that hasn’t even been properly costed – there is no allowance in it for admin costs – let alone there other policies/money scrambles!

And the only thing our pathetic socialist orientated media can focus on is a coversation over a cup of tea which they are only speculating what was said!  GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH!!!!!!!

If Labour and the Greens were given the same biased scrutiny that National was, they wouldn’t even register.  Heaven help us that the bulk of Kiwi’s are intelligent enough to stick with National – or else hell in a hand cart would be like a Suday picnic!

      • GPT

Nice rant although I am not sure that Garner is bias – just a self aggrandising prick.  Career before truth and ethics.

  • Johnboy

Bastard really when the shite channel TV3 needed bailing out by the government.

How far in the shit are they now, anybody know?

  • max_power

Yes The Herald seems very keen on supporting their Sunday edition for some reason.

Venal aren’t they, the media. When it’s the election and the people’s democracy and they claim Fourth Estate rights which means objective guardianship on behalf of almost sacred and here they are, taking advantage of their own self-generated story not to point out a real live flaw in one of the candidates that people need to know about, but rather peddling a nonsense merely to sell more ads in their rags stable. Even if the cameraman’s lawyer says he’s working pro bono, would you believe that? Given the way this news organisation is behaving over this. What’s funny is watching all the TV3 journos tripping over themselves to be even more lefty than the previous “serious” news journo who was on before them. It’s like they’re in competition.

    Disgusting creatures.

  • Gazzaw

Three more polls to go this weekend? Roy Morgan may give the labour supporters some multiple orgasms again tomorrow night with a +30% rating and the Nats -50%.

  • B R

Any of the media interested in economy, education and more jobs: I am… ? hmmm

  • http://keepingstock.blogspot.com/ Inventory2

Nice RED tie that Garner’s wearing, isn’t it? I wonder if Trevor loaned it to him.

  • Gazzaw

Couldnt  resist watching the TV3 replay of the news. Garner sounded as if he had swallowed a dead rat when running through the stats. Loved his starting spin line about the Nats dropping to their lowest level since 2008. Then came the first dead rat with Labours bigger drop. The rest of his effort was all ifs, buts & maybes. I expect that the TV3 boss has fairly regular meetings with the government about the special financial relationship so Gower & Garner may well get a ‘please explain’ email in the fairly near future.

  • Dangerous Den

Is anybody having difficulty posting National supporting or right leaning comments on the Herald, Stuff and TV3 sites? I am….nothing too contraversal, just supportive of JK. Have been trying now for over 4hours and i’m not having any trouble on other sites. Are we being shut out ???

    • Andrew McMillan

I had to complain to TV3 (on grounds of balance and fairness) to get my comment accepted here:

      http://www.3news.co.nz/Default.aspx?TabId=419&articleID=231540

Another commenter had “VOTE GREEN” which contravenes two of their moderation rules, and even though I’ve complained it’s still there. Their moderators seem to be showing a definite Left bias.

It’s TV3′s loss though, because sites like whaleoil make for better discussion anyways.

      • Wilma

Yes, my anti-Herald and TV3 (but politely worded) comment didn’t appear either.

  • Lindsay Addie

Re Garner I notice his blog has had no new posts on it for a week and when I looked it seemed rather blank.

  • oncewasaswingingdick

duncan is running so shit scared of patrick taking over the front running as the biggest cunt they have on the political reporting scene at tv3, that he is going all out to get the top man….

  • niggly

Crickey, Labour get mostly blocked out of media coverage by the teacup beat-up this week and the result is more people seem to forget who they are and so they drop further in tonights polls! Labour’s strategists may as well give up and hit the bottle hard for the next 10 days (probably their only time they will have any fun) cos in tens day’s time, they are going to be drowning their sorrows anyway!

As for Winnie, he may be grinning with the teacup beat-up but he’s still a long way from reaching 5%. What a mug for being a lazy bastard and not standing in an electorate where, who knows, he might have won and thus done an “ACT” and bring in some NZF MP’s even if he only reached 3 or 4%! (Heh, talking about NZF who the hell are Winnie’s NZF list candidates – without looking on their website they have been invisible – does anyone know)? So Go Winnie! A vote for Winnie will be (another) wasted vote come Nov 26!

    • Gazzaw

The only one that I know of is Andrew Williams, ex mayor of North Shore City. If he got into the House that would be a bigger travesty than Annette Sykes. That’s what you get with MMP!

      • niggly

Gazzaw: The only one that I know of is Andrew Williams, ex mayor of North Shore City.

Cheers Gazzaw, I had forgotten about Andrew Williams.

Crickey if NZF get back in, no tree at Parliament will be safe if Andrew Williams goes on a bender (which is something pollies seem to do)!

  • Arniet M

What can Labour expect when M/S Street is telling her voters here in Nelson to give their party vote to the Greens. So much faith in her own and her parties ability.

    • Troy

Probably advice given to her by Helen Clark and her bitch-partner Heather Simpson (who of course really pulled the strings over those 9 dreary years).

  • Anonymous

Jesus that crooked old bastard Winston is milking this shit for all it’s worth.

And John Campbell the little pinko creep is just giving him a platform that money couldn’t buy.

I mean clearly Winston gives Campbell a hard on & had Mihi Forbes giggling like a schoolgirl yesterday but the man is an out & out crook.

Even John Hatfield has some decency about him compared to Winston but TV3 are fawning all over him like he’s fucking Rasputin.

What about the $158,000 that old prick owes the taxpayer John…ask him about that?

    • Anonymous

That’s what I cant get into my skull, all this hoo hah about the ” tea tape” but not one single fucking reporter has asked Winnie ” where’s our $ 158,000,00″ It shits me.

  • Nolocontendere

Just wondering if Bradley Ambrose’s lawyer Ron Mansfield, who is reported to be  seeking a ruling in the High Court as to whether the Banks-Key chat was private, is also Herald owner APN’s lawyer? Or TV3′s? Or perhaps Winston’s? All three parties are potentially at risk if the conversation is found to be illegally taped.

This ruling represents an interesting turn of events — seems to be a tacit admission that (as has been noted here previously) even if the microphone was left on the table “unintentionally”, the act of keeping the camera recording audio continuously for eight minutes could not have been anything but intentional.

So was the conversation “private”? Clearly both Mr Key and Mr Banks had that expectation — otherwise they wouldn’t have discussed anything more innocuous than the tea.

  • Quintin Hogg

    Nolo,
Ron is  barrister.  The herald uses Bell Gully and TV3 uses Grove Darlow.  Peters uses another barrister – Brian Henry.
    No conflicts

    • Nolocontendere

      Thanks for the clarification.

Would the High Court be expected to deal with the matter urgently? Or will this just bubble along until after the election?
