Reconcile this Phil

Phil Goff started off talking about GST at the beginning of the year saying he would Axe the Tax, turns out that was a lie. Instead his position on GST is that they will try to take GST off fresh fruit and veges. They don’t know how, or what, and presumably the “expert panel” will help them out but that is their policy.

In order to form a government though Phil Goff and labour will likely have to rely on Hone Harawira and what ever band of malcontents he manages to coat-tail into parliament.

Yesterday he was on the Stuff Live chat and had this to say about GST:

Labour are committed to keeping GST, just removing it from fresh fruit and vegetables. Nut he must deal with Hone Harawira, so how is he going to reconcile Mana’s position for the removal of GST all together?

  • Paulus

Are Nuts going to be GST free ?

  • thor42

Yeah right, Hone.  Abolish GST and you’ll have to ramp up income tax **enormously**, and you’ll have to do that with **everyone** – not just the “rich” because there are so few of them.  It’s amazing that people are ignorant enough to vote for this guy when you can rip his policies to shreds.

You can’t sum up the whole left as anything more than a “CLUSTER FUCK”

  • Gazzaw

It would be fascinating to record the negotiations between Goof & Hone – presumably over a cup of tea.

No; in recognition of Hone’s mana (as oppsoed to Mana), food would need to be involved, so it’s be a hangi with Hone!

  • Petal

Come on Cam… you are secretly hoping National will come in around 46% so we actually get to see Labour having to negotiate with Mana et al.  Can you think of anything more delicious?

    Belgium’s doing well: http://www.hetwereldrecord.be/

On the other hand:  ”It’s not the kind of record one wants to set. If people are having fun with it, it is to hide their embarrassment”

  • Kosh103

Labour have already ruled out Mana, so this is just more of WO blathering without thinking.

    • http://keepingstock.blogspot.com/ Inventory2

Helen Clark and Winston Peters ruled one another out in 2005 as well; nek minnit, Winnie’s the Foreign Minister!

    • Gazzaw

Goff would deal with the devil if it would make him PM. I tell you what Kosh, Goof has been going on about the Epsom tea party but there’s no doubt that there will be a few cups of tea to be drunk if the election puts him on the position of putting together a coalition from hell – Greens, MP, United, NZ First & Mana. Hope there’s enough in the campaign fund to buy a pack of Choysa or two!

    • Chris

Is it, Kosh, really?  How naive you are.  In fact, given this is what Labour has said is its position, you can bet your life that the truth is the opposite.  So, say, if you want the minimum wage raised to $15, don’t vote Labour because they won’t do it.  You say make the first $5k of income tax free?, then don’t vote Labour.  You want us to keep our assets?  Don’t vote Labour.  They are a lying pack of gutless weasel fucks who need to be herded together and bulldozed over a cliff.  If you can’t manage all of them then Goff, King, Mallard and Dyson will do.

      • thor42

        I second that……

        • kevin

          and me…

    • Chris

Also Kosh, do you really think Goff would turn down the chance of forming a government and being PM because of a refusal to accept Hone’s support?  Get real.  The second worst thing about Goff saying he wouldn’t work with Hone was that it was a lie.  The worst thing was refusing to respond to anyone who questioned them on it.  Just more of the same from that dirty bunch of lying duplicitous scum.  While I don’t agree with probably anything John Tamahere says, he was right when he said the difference between
National and Labour is that National stabs you in the front and Labour stabs you in the back.  Labour deserve no respect and what ever politics they must be banished to purgatory until at least Goff, King, Mallard and Dyson are in rest homes.

  • Johnboy

No fears bro’s. Hone won’t negotiate anything unless his horrible Mummy says he can.

    Poor Phil.

I’d like to see some good long-term planning by the Nats.
If it were up to me, I’d put GST up to 15% and use the extra funds to set up a “buffer account” (for want of a better name), the purpose of which would be to ensure that once we get back into surplus, we ***never again*** slide back into deficit and borrowing.  An Act should be passed stating that this account would be untouched until it reached (say) $80 billion, and after that time, no more than 5% of it could be spent in a given year.  THAT is good long-term planning.

    • thor42

Sorry….. the GST would be increased to 17.5% (as it is already at 15%). My bad….

  • Kosh103

Goff will not work with Mana. Simple as that.

    • Scanner

Sorry Kosh, Goof would blow John Hatfield in Queen St if he thought it would keep him in a job.

I reckon if we end up with a Labour/Green/NZF/Maori/Mana government then GST is the least of our fucking problems.
