Winston threatens Farrar

Winston Peters, known liar, is threatening to sue David Farrar:

Political comeback king Winston Peters is threatening to take legal action against a right wing blogger, just hours after finding out he’s coming back to parliament.

In the final days of the election campaign blogger David Farrar alleged the New Zealand First leader’s candidacy was illegal.

Mr Peters has vehemently denied that.

In the final days of the election campaign blogger David Farrar alleged the New Zealand First leader’s candidacy was illegal because he hadn’t gone through the correct registration process.

Speaking to podcast The Slightly Correct Political Show Mr Peters says he won’t stand for such outrageous actions and hinted he’ll take legal action against Mr Farrar.

I’m disappointed that Winston is suing Farrar before me. Especially after I had words with him in the studio this morning at Tv3. I’ve called him a liar, corrupt and a thief….no matter what I do I can’t get him to sue me, so kudos to Farrar for getting a reaction. Of course Winston lies at the every opportunity so this is probably just another big bluff full of bluster and bullshit.

I’d start explaining tot he court my honest held belief that Winston peters is a lying, corrupt politician starting my story in 1974.

I would subpoena a large number of ex-MPs and ministers including two former Prime Ministers to explain details about his history that have enabled me to form my honest held belief.

I think DPF was alleging that the short narcessist had broken his own party rules and incorporated society rules or vica versa.  There was nothing illegal about his election just that he was ineligible under NZF’s own rules

Anyway we will be stuck with the prick for another three years as the tax payer subsidisies his getting on the piss.

Him and Williams awesome.  I give it 6 months before Williams is a headline for misbehaviour

    • Ben Ross

6 months? I was giving around 5 minutes once he is Sworn in and the Auckland Council has its Monthly Governing Body Meeting ;-)

    • Gazzaw

Someone should post an incentive for Wellington freelance ‘snappers’.

    • EX Navy Greg

I would only give Leaky Williams 6 days, watch this space.

  • Dion

This will be a big win with his voter base – put the young whipper snapper back in his place.

  • GPT

I think the issue is that even Winston doesn’t believe that he can bully you and calling him a liar and corrupt is, well,  true and he wouldn’t really want a Judge saying that.  Keep trying though.

  • NormJones

I would love to see Owen bankroll Farrar for the court case, i agree that you could sell tickets and ‘NO” signs…..brilliant….just watched Williams on Tv, smug prick

    • Bafacu

At least Bellamy’s will be able to provide AW with subsidised fuel – just make sure there are plenty of trees near. Winny gets a new play mate – Aw, soundly rejected by the North Shore as unsuitable as a Mayor AW gets “elected” to feed off a bigger trough – isn’t politics wonderful.

  • MrV

He needs to be in front of a judge over the theft of $158K of taxpayers monies.

    • Troy

Yup, winston is a liar, thief and ought to answer for it – i’m fucked off that kiwi’s have been so fucking gullible to party vote this guy – what a pack of dumbasses, now we have to put up with this dickhead for another 3 years.  Let’s make fodder of him, even if the courts can’t.

  • GPT

I think Peters is hinting at a police complaint – s199A – although I am struggling how DPF could be said to “knowingly” publish a false statement.  Hell, every chance he is right.  Irony that Winston says people should not get away with lying when that is his whole career.

I think that Winston is considering defamation. the Lange v Atkinson decision (which effectively allows robust comment on a politician) would be a serious impediment. However Winston’s lawyers could probably succeed in arguing that because of the presence of s199A of the Electoral Act, the Lange v Atkinson decision should not apply where the alleged defamation occurs within two days of polling.

I think raising this matter within two days of polling was unwise. Also I think the only people who can take action against NZ first for not abiding by its rules are NZ First members, rather than ‘outsiders’. Failure to lodge amended rules with the registrar of Incorporated societies was more a ‘technical’ breach anyway – heaven knows why they did not do it – the secretary merely has to make a statutory declaration in front of a JP or lawyer then send the declaration and rules to the Registrar.

It is the eight unnecessary salaries that bother me,  the candiates for New Zealand First are effectively unemployable and now they will sit on their arses and collect big bucks – while Winston just stirs up as much discord and irritation as possible.  Let’s see how good his word to be “consultative” really is - don’t hold your breath – and to all who voted this foolish man into parliament – you now have to own the resulting fiasco.

    • Gazzaw

The problem is RAS that half of them won’t remember voting for him.

  • kevin

As a law student  w a y  back WP used to pretend he was of Italian origin.  So one of his fellow students from that era told me.

    • giovanni

I think he may be one of Silvio’s mates

    • Lofty

Hence him being known far and wide as “Luigi” Peters

  • Rightoverlabour

And 55% voted to keep MMP… 8 unelected, incompetent, selfserving hasbeens get into parliament, we pay them welfare for the next three years and they do FA to make the country better. I think labour voters voted strategically here, thought that if they got winnie the pooh in, and both Act and United failed to get it then labour could get in after prostituting themselves to all the other minor parties. MMP sucks. On the bright side THREE MORE YEARS of stability and good government.

  • Paul Marsden

Ironic there is now a law maker in parliament who has committed perjury in the highest court in the land (i.e. parliament), is now elected to make law, and pass laws that its citizenry must abide by. Its analogous to a High Court judge been convicted of a crime (any will do), but who maintains his/her position on the Bench. I personally think Peters appointment is an affront and a damning indictment on the entire legal brotherhood. He is a crook, a liar and a charlatan, thru and thru. God save NZ.

    • Troy

alas this is the cost of democracy, right or wrong, it doesn’t always work yet we sometimes fool ourselves it does – clearly in this case with Winston, democracy doesn’t work because of the conditions we place on it – until that changes we will continue to have crooks, liars and charlatans.  Either we live with that or we actively change the conditions of our so-called democracy to be what we want it to be (fair, honest, truthful).  This, i don’t expect to happen for quite some time.

  • MrAuz1989

I think it was Henry L Mencken who said “No one ever went broke under-estimating people’s intelligence”.

  • middleagedwhiteguy

    So that’s “Constructive and Co-operative”?

  • RAS

For God’s sake he is already seeing himself as Leader of the Opposition how presumptious is that?.

  • Ploughman

I am reminded of Groucho Marx’s statement: These are my principles.  If you don’t like them I have others.Baubles anyone?

Winstons candidacy was obviously legal as the electoral commission had no issues with it. David should have contacted NZF with his concern or at least the electoral commission. Instead he choose the most sensational method by reporting it to the media.

If you all take a step back, suppress your views of Winston (as difficult as it may seem) and look at the bare facts. Considering the actions and timing David could now be facing a serious defamation case and possibly more in terms of the electoral act.

His best course of action would be to apologise :-)

    • Peter Wilson

I think you’ll find it’s all bluster and part of his strategy to keep his star in the ascendency. Playing games while the other parties have finished their electioneering and are moving on to work hard to get the country working.

Never forget the idiots that took the rugby union to court over the tour to South Africa, claiming they were breaking their own rules. That, and the clowns that disrupted the 1981 tour merely prolonged the evil that was aparthied.

Yes, if the NZF case would probably never get to court, as it was an oversight. But then again, didn’t they have to change the law to enable Harry Dunhyoven to stay in parliament when he swore allegiance to another country, another oversight.

  • RAS

Thanks for your comment Toa -  we will simply have to agree to disagree – I am a senior myself and I have witnessed Winston Peters in action over the years – it’s the same old story every time, he gets caught red handed, he squawks his head off claiming bias and damage to his “character” -  he claims that he is never wrong and he doesn’t change -  but he just remains disruptive, duplicitous and frankly dangerous. . He and his cohorts should not be in parliament they are rejects from other careers and have absolutely no parliamentary experience..   It is interesting that the majority of his voters came from Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, Wanganui and Whangarei now what does that suggest to you?.  But on the upside – “better the devil you know” - at least the elderly folk who did vote for him can now hope that he will find them more baubles let’s see if he gets a reduction on power prices for the aged community. .
