No photo op, just hard work

Good to see a Minister put in the hard yards not just a photo op unlike Phil Goff.

A Christmas visit to volunteers helping quake-stricken Christchurch suburbs may see new Minister of Civil Defence, Napier MP Chris Tremain, link government and the Student Volunteer Army.

Mr Tremain, who took up the ministerial role this month, spent yesterday shovelling liquefaction silt with volunteers in the hard-hit eastern suburb of New Brighton.

He also spent part of the day meeting with University of Canterbury student and the army’s co-ordinator, Sam Johnson, discussing ways the government could work with the volunteers.

“I spent about an hour with him talking through some of the issues he had co-ordinating volunteers between Civil Defence and his organisation, and to see if there were ways in the future we could streamline that,” he said.

“I think there needs to be a way that we can close that chasm between professional organisations and the groups of people that team up on the spot, and see if we can help these two types of volunteers to work together.”

Hope Sam has his come-uppance on New Years Day with a trip to Government House a bit later on.

My first thought was  guess who drew the short straw to be duty minister over the  Xmas break.

Lucky the residents had such a  glass is all ways half full type of person such as Chris around to show them  how to just shovel their problems all  away  in their green zone  properties.

LOL, no photo op, is that only becuase there were no cameras?

Exactly Kosh. There were no cameras- just a new Minister hard at work, not only having a conversation with people that have volunteered to get things happening (unlike Goof who rabbited unhelpful rhetoric during his Rena photo ops) to make it easier for them but actually helped with the manual labour stuff for a DAY!
He wasnt there to try to look good for 5 minutes.
Well done for once again unintentionally backing up what Whale was pointing out…

No Kosh; unlike Phil Goff on Papamoa Beach, Tremain just got stuck in and helped with the work that was required. That’s the kind of person he is. Growing up as the son of an All Black isn’t easy, but Chris Tremain has come out the other end as a bloody fine bloke who’s not afraid of hard work, and who actually had a real job before he entered Parliament.

I realise that such a background would make him a rarity in the Labour Party Kosh, but you have to understand it; getting off one’s arse and working hard is the key to getting ahead, not sitting back and waiting for the government to hand out the money. Therein lies the diffrenece between the Right and the Left.

Well done Chris. I knew your father and he worked bloody hard to build his business in The Bay.
The old man would be proud of you.
