Pity she wasn’t detained forever

Helen Kelly, the chief hobbit hater was detained and then deported from Fiji where she was off to stir up trouble.

The president of the NZ Council of Trade Unions and several other union delegates have been detained by Fijian authorities.

Helen Kelly and others from the delegation flew in from Sydney today on what was to be a three-day mission to investigate allegations of human and labour rights abuses by the Fijian government.

ONE News has learned the group were detained at Nadi Airport and that members had their SIM cards confiscated.

The group were due to be deported back to Australia this afternoon.

Fijian media yesterday reported that the delegation would be denied entry.

Kelly said in a statement yesterday the group would continue regardless, at the request of  Fijian unions and civil society groups.

Yeah good luck with that. A sovereign nation has denied they don’t want a union hobbit hater in their country and they have turned her away. There is no way she is ever going to get entry to Fiji.

I wish they had deported her to Siberia.

  • Lesley

I forgot that Helen Kelly was a Hobbit hater. As NewstalkZB’s Mike Hosking said – just a publicity stunt.

  • Kosh103

How dare she go to a country where the workers are being treated like shit to fight for them.

    • Bafacu

Quite right Kosh, she should be here fighting for the teachers rights – after all charity begins at home.

      • Kosh103

Teachers have their own union. If Helen wants to help workers in an oppressed country with an illegal Govt, I say good on her for trying to make others lives better.

    • diabolos

The CTU is funded by its member unions.  New Zealand Unions NOT Fiji Unions.  The member unions are funded by the New Zealand members – NOT Fiji Unions.

I support the CTU’s role – insofar as it is targetted at New Zealand – NOT offshore.

If she spent her own money getting there – fine.  If she spent CTU money – then she should be pilloried by her constituency.

Kosh – word to the wise – if the Left dont behave themselves and keep their noses clean – then look forward to a National Government for the next decade plus.

I agreed with Kellys stance on the Hobbit issue – Jackson played them (the public and the Government) like a cheap $20 harmonica over that.  Jackson proved that money and power are all there is.  Then John Key the whore of hollywood bent over and took it up his chook – and hollywood shrieked with laughter.

Doesnt change the fact – what in gods good name was she doing trying to go to Fiji when there are more pressing matters here in New Zealand.  Cheaparse Fijian companies have been putting New Zealand workers out of work in this country since the early 90′s.

we dont learn the lessons of history.

      • Mediatart

Why are we funding security for Keys hawaii holidays then. If he wants taxpayer paid security let him stay at his holiday house  in NZ

  • Elaycee

Big tick to the authorities in Fiji. Anyone who decides that Kelly is not a fit and proper person to enter Fiji, is surely a good judge of character.

Yet this morning I heard Kelly suggest that people planning holidays / weddings in Fiji should think again. Nah – sorry Helen, Fiji is actually back on my radar as a nice place to visit – due to the fact they saw fit to kick your arse out of their own country.

But this same bint knew in advance that she would not be allowed to enter Fiji, but still she travelled.

I take it that the money she wasted on flights / Sydney accommodation etc was not sourced from  union fees? Oh, oh….

  • Lesley

Kosh103 - you talk through a hole in your head. How do you know how workers are treated in Fiji? Here are a few facts that you will not read  about in our media:
    Fiji’s spending on
education and health-care has increased considerably year-over-year. In the
2012 budget, they have even instituted across-the-board raises for nurses and
doctors. This is on top of the Government cutting or eliminating taxes for 99%
of taxpayers. Second, the Bainimarama Government has done more to protect human
rights than any previous government in Fiji’s history—outlawing
institutionalized racism and other discriminatory practices; codifying equal
rights for women; and enacting a reform agenda to ensure elections in 2014 will
guarantee universal suffrage for the first time in the country’s history. Helen Kelly and her fellow Unionists are only protecting BMW-driving
unionists who seek only to protect their dues. It is clear the Bainimarama
Government’s efforts to protect the livelihoods of Fijians from powerful
outside interference are striking a nerve.

    • Kosh103

You are defending a dictator – ok then. Not something I could do, but hey your call.

      • http://www.whaleoil.co.nz Whaleoil

Kosh you know nothing about Fiji, don’t dig a hole you can’t get out of.

You really need to drop this fixation with Fiji having a dictator…I don;t see you moaning about China, Burma, pakistan, Thailand, or any other place NZ trades with.

Helen Kelly as usual misses the point…if people boycott Fiji then the very worker she is wanting to protect will lose their jobs…nice strategy huh?

      • Lesley

Have you ever met anyone who is in the Fiji government Kosh103? The majority of those I have spoken to when I go to Fiji (and not just at the resorts but in Suva) don’t think of Frank as a Dictator. If you did a bit of research and had more of an open mind (which Helen Kelly does not have ) then you might find out that what is really happening in Fiji is not the doom and gloom painted here by the majority of MSM. The first thing Murray McCully should do this term is send people over to help with the registering of voters. They need manpower because registration cannot be done via mail – they have to visit the remote areas by foot. The NZ Government needs to change tact and engage fully with Fiji. Better to be inside the circle than on the outside. If you are in the inside you know what is going on.

      • Kosh103

Would you like me to moan about China etc on here WO? I would be more than happy to as I am not over the moon about NZ trading with them. Dont make assumptions. Best to ask a person questions before stating something.

    • Vij

Just call him the moronic idiot which he is

    • kehua

Yeah, stick it up em Lesley, backyard experts have treated Frank like shit for years, I can remember the days of the `brown paperbag` ruling Fiji, just because some of that shit goes on with Unions over here Kelly and her ilk think that it is normal practice  and can`t stand to see it not working in Fiji anymore. Pity our border Control let the bitch  back in.

    Further ACTU trade sanctions will
    threaten 4,000 jobs

    Publish
    date/time: 13/12/2011 [16:45]

Fiji’s Textile Clothing Footwear Council is
seriously concerned with the consequences of further trade sanctions proposed
by the Australian Council of Trade Unions as it will threaten over 4,000
    jobs.

President Kalpesh Solanki is also questioning why the ACTU is embarking on a
fact-finding mission after they have publicly targeted industries in Fiji.

Solanki said ACTU’s campaign will affect over 4,000 people directly employed
    in the industry.

He said the impact will also be on the contribution that the industry makes
to Fiji’s economy in terms of export revenue which stands at $95 million, job
    creation, poverty alleviation and investment.

Solanki said in October, ACTU president Ged Kearney said in an interview with
    Radio Australia that “we
will ask Australian companies not to buy clothes that are made in Fiji. We
will actually start hopefully having an impact on the economy there that the
government will have to take notice of.”

In another interview earlier this month, Kearney said that “we are looking at further trade
sanctions. We are asking the Australian government to examine current trade
    agreements with Fiji.”

Solanki said the textile industry is just recovering from a massive 25
percent reduction in export in 2009 and 2010 and further sanctions will hit
    them hard.

He said it is also concerning that the ACTU is seeking to find facts a few
months after publicly announcing the campaign against the industry.

Lesley – starting in the 1990′s cheap products from Fiji decimated sectors of the NZ workforce.  Im all for protectionism in strategic areas.

Fiji is self interested – just like everyone else.  Maybe we should just cut the aid and let them go running into the arms of the chinese.  Im happy with that.  Its high time the geo politics of this region were left to play out to their ultimate end.  Lets really see where things are going to go once and for all.

Kelly was wrong to go to Fiji.  Aussie unions and interests are however NOT wrong to request blockage of cheap and nasty Fiji products coming here and destroying our waged workers futures.

Kosh is blindly supporting anything with keywords like “labour” “left” “union” in it – much like many here are also like a similar CIA or MI6 software application – recognise certain keyword triggers for their comments like “right” “individual responsibility” “lower taxes” “fuck” “cunt” “clark” and the list goes on – actually the list of keyword triggers are huge for the right it seems.  They even have crossovers into leftist keyword triggers.

Funny how so many previously Fiji Citizens now live here and are still arriving every day.  They dont seem to want to go back either.  Most appear to be of indian extraction too – any comments on that folks … or is that too hot a potatoe for your sensibilities to cope with at this point in time …??

      • Lesley

Diabolis – the Attorney-General has said that they don’t want to be reliant on aid anymore and that they want to stand on their own two feet – the reason why they are seeking new alliances and markets. There are some very good Fiji products now and I would rather support Fiji than China!
Fiji is a quite a racist country - one of the major reasons why the coup happened in the first place. Now ALL who are born and live in Fiji are equal and ALL are allowed to vote – one man one vote. Fiji is growing up.

“Fiji needs to stand on its own two feet and not depend on Australia and New Zealand, a government official told employers last night.
Speaking at the Fiji Employers Federation dinner at the Holiday Inn, Minister of Commerce Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum said the government is now focused on nothing but the economy.”

      • Gazzaw

Citizens from Europe, USA, Asia, South America & Australia arrive here every day too & they don’t want to go back either.

      • kehua

The same Aussie interests you speak of raped the Fijian economy of Gold, Sugar and Timber for years using cheap labour from impoverished villages. They got pissed off when Fiji would not let heavy industry in and then packed a sad and pulled out. As for NZ clothing jobs being lost from the 70`s on , lay it on the Aus and NZ companies who took advantage of the cheap labour.

      • diabolos

        @lesley and @c26c03f8849e36af8f8e6223f84bff36:disqus
         - i dont dispute the rights and wrongs of Fijis situation and i dont have your inside knowledge  - but i think my comments stand – ditch the aid – cut them loose and recognise that they have the right to run their own show and run to whomever they choose for aid.  Stop angsting over them everyone.

I say again – if Fiji is so good now – why are the migrants still arriving – or am i wrong here?

@kehua:disqus   - the companies in Aus and NZ – certainly understand your point – but thats the problem with the whole system isnt it.  There is about to be another mad rush of companies from NZ overseas over the next 12 months too.

We are a small country – shrinking job market – and we have more and more people coming into a closed, finite loop.  Hey – if you’re all happy about that then knock yourselves out.

Fiji should be the least of our concerns.  Then there is the money wasted in offshore aid and our military in Afghanistan.  I could go on and on …

    • diabolos

and now those same migrants – dispossessed wee darlings they are – are taking jobs all over the show.  They cant work for less than others by law – but they can be more acquiescent and quiet and not be unionised and certainly not inclined to make waves.   The only ones who use the unions it seems are those who are muslim or other religious persuasion who have issues with Kiwi chicks in the workplace not being prepared to be subservient to the men … so they lodge personal grievances like other people change their undies.

Unions have currently got their roles arse about face to use the vernacular.

      • Thorn

What a pity this work ethic brought to NZ by these migrants cannot be cloned into the useless PI and Maoris who want rights but not the responsibility. BTW, pro rata migrant violent crime is way below the aforementioned savages.

      • diabolos

Not denying any of the stuff you say thorn … but – for people to improve they need jobs and the opportunity to get them.  Its a closed loop and Government and the UN are conspiring to push more and more people into a society with a limited supply of jobs.

Like it or lump it mate – its still the truth whether you choose to spin it in another way or not.

  • Peter Wilson

I wish they had deported her to Siberia.

I don’t think that particular part of Russia – or whatever it’s called now – is her spiritual home, so she can’t go there. Maybe Mos-cow?

    • Symgardiner

Yes. I agree. What did anyone in Siberia every do to deserve having an NZ trade unionist inflicted upon them?

  • Kosh103

A little disturbing the number of righties defending a dictator.

    • Lesley

Because Frank B is a benevolent dictator. A bit different to what a “normal” dictator is.

      • Kosh103

LMAO, tell that to the people who have their rights under him surpressed.

        Benevolent, what a laugh.

    • Vij

No one is defending a dictator.  People are sick and tired of moronic idiots like you

    • Thorn

The classic quote :”I would rather serve under one lion of good pedigree than under two rats of my own kind” seems to have some appeal. FB has done a good job in freeing Fiji from the tyranny of tribal primates and their lefty allies, the same type of worthless trash we have to spiritually appease with very tangible dollars.

    • kehua

Got used to it under the Clark administration, jerkoff.

      • Gazzaw

Like my right to appeal to the Privy Council

    • Magoo

Considering the vast majority of dictators are left wing fruitcakes, I’d have to agree with you on that one.

  • poorman

Publicity stunt. We have all know for the last few days they were intending on going and expected to be stopped at the border. If they really wanted to be able to talk to the ‘workers’, wouldn’t they have just gone on ‘holiday’ and kept their visit private.

It would be interesting to know if they actually booked any accommodation, knowing they wouldn’t use it, and then forfeit their deposit.

  • frosty

It’d be nice to have a dictator for a while.  At least, good or bad, shit would get done.  As opposed to the continual ‘have policy – talk, consult, whinge, protest – water down policy repeat cycle -consult again, delay, and eventually do nothing anyway’ that goes on here (thanks MMP).
Better than having 120 clowns in a beehive bickering like schoolkids.

  • Super Guest

The funny thing about Kosh (apart from the fact that he’s a Labour supporter, along with a couple of beneficiaries in South Auckland, and a few union hacks) is that if he was being this dumb on a leftist blog, he’d be hailed as a hero of the worker, and if he was a right winger filling up their comments section, he’d have been banned by now. So much love the left has for censorship.

  • Bob

Can some one please help me, I can’t remember which one is which between Helen Kelly and Helen Keller.
One is Short Sighted, has nothing to say and an idiot, the other is Blind, Deaf and Dumb, who’s who?
