In the lead up to the release of my web guide to National selections I will be publishing FAQs here.
Where possible I will try to include a historical precedent and people who were involved for aspiring candidates to contact so they can find out what really went on.
Will the Party Hierarchy be Neutral in Selections?
No. They will get involved despite a moral obligation to remain neutral. Those doubting this should talk to the candidates (successful and unsuccessful) in Rodney, Epsom and Coromandel selections.
Board members, Regional officers and electorate chairs should remain totally out of selections for ethical reasons, but will usually be in the thick of things trying to influence results. They will even run around handing out printouts of websites and making calls to delegates or worse still making representations to board meetings about particular candidates that would be actionable with a wider audience.
