I shudder to think what would happen here:

US authorities say a father who caught a man sexually assaulting his four-year-old daughter and beat him to death may not face charges.

The father, from Texas, punched the man repeatedly in the head, killing him, Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon said.

The girl had been left inside the family’s house during a social gathering on Saturday while other members of her family were tending to horses, Sheriff Harmon told CNN.

He said the father returned to the house and caught the man abusing his daughter before unleashing his attack. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is a wonder the perp wasn’t shot 57 times being in Texas.

    I could think of far more cruel and unusual punishment if the perp did that to one of my daughters. Either way, well done that father! Death is the best form of treatment in this regard.

    I was watching the history channel the other night regarding Queen Boudicca’s revenge
    on the Romans for the oppression of her people. According to what I have read, the last straw was her being whipped by the Romans in front of her tribe and her two daughters being gang raped by Roman soldiers. Her wrath saw no limits and she wiped out what is modern Cholchester – every inhabitant. The Roman soldiers were given ‘special treatment’.

    As a parent I have to say – when it comes to my child…my rage would have no bounds.
    Beat…then shoot…just in case. Oh BTW this is not just rhetoric – I live on a farm so blood and guns are not an issue.

      except he wasn’t caught by that girls father and is doing 10 years.no body wrung their hands we let justice take its course. that said,if it was my daughter  i would have used “reasonable force” on him and if he ended up dead, too bad.

    I applaud this father no end. 

    I’m probably wrong, but I thought NZ has a statute regarding reasonable use of force in the defense … both of ones self and of other defenseless individuals (see Austin Hemmings).

    As far as I am concerned, it was reasonable and there won’t be ANY other little 4-year olds that are traumatized by the deceased ever again. 

    There’s a LOT of stuff that’s odd about Texas, but sometimes in their black & white & ruthless mentality, they get it right.

    Self defence laws would apply here too. You would only need to convince the judge you feared for the girl’s life.
    I can’t imagine any dad not doing the same, good on him.

       Wouln’t it be a jury case, and the Jury would throw it out striaght away I woudl have thought.

      I agree with both Greg and Engineer here… even if the NZ police were so silly as to charge the Dad (and I suspect they might, silly twats that they are), a duly assembled Jury of 12 of his NZ peers couldn’t fail to acquit him, at least I still have faith in that so far as our average Kiwi jurors (!).

         Pharmachick, the Police would have to charge him, but as you say he would almost certainly be acquitted after 10 minutes of jury deliberations.
        Given the near fatal injuries to the wee girl at Turangi, the dad would have a very solid reason to fear for her life, and has every justification to use deadly force.
        Even if he wasn’t acquitted, I would think spending ten years in jail is a small price to pay if it saved his daughter from harm.
