Sorry seems to be the hardest word

Yesterday Megan Woods compared John Key’s led government with Adolf Hitler’s nazi party.

She was attacked immediately on Twitter and on my blog, but remained unrepentant even offering explanations as early as this morning.

As well all know explaining is losing….and so Megan Woods has now apoligised…sort of…like most Labour politicians she doesn’t know how to say the word Sorry.

Sorry really does seem to be the hardest word:

  • In Vino Veritas

Excellent Whale! you have a song for every occassion!

  • beanyboy

What really gets on my rag is that they talk about “faulty logic” while overlooking that Labour AND the Greens pushed through the So Called Anti Smacking legislation WITHOUT an electoral mandate (Labour didn’t campaign on it) and WITHOUT public support, If I recall polls were around 75% oppossed to the changes. So what are they banging on about? and my aren’t the MSM calling their bluff on this and bringing it up?

    • Johnbronkhorst

Also weren’t the polls re anti asset sales a lot higher 3 months ago.?

      • Polishpride

        Ummm No.

      • Johnbronkhorst

        Actually polish…..YES

    • Polishpride

So what because it has been done in the past a precedent has been set and it is now ok!?! It needs to be unacceptable at any time for a democratically elected government to go against the will of the people.

      • beanyboy

Absolutely guarantee that if Shearer was bailed up about it that he would have some excuse for doing the same thing, and for the record its NOT the same, National campaigned on it, Labour didn’t. For the record National voted FOR the “anti smacking” bill, at least they are consistant in their approach.

      • Neil

Agree PolishP – I’m am so sick of the constant label of hypocrasy thrown for stuff that happened years ago – the relevence I don’t get – the world is not the same and neither is this country.¬†

Whether this is a wrong decision at the wrong time is what should matter now…..nothing else.¬†

I cannot see how selling assets in a depressed situation is going to give good return, christ look at all the retail outlets running specials ‘cos they’re not selling anything – doesn’t that give you a warning?

Institutional buyers with simply be looking for cheap purchase and I suspect individuals with be borrowing yet more money to buy shares.¬† Our country’s private debt levels are horrendous while our Government debt it internationally recognised as manageable and sustainable.

      • In Vino Veritas

Neil, with the greatest of respect to your financial literacy, you are proving you don’t actually have any. Comparing a retail shop with a utility provider is nonsensical and plain silly.

The basic rationale for the selling of state assets hasn’t changed in the years since Labour sold their first tranches. If it is wrong now, it¬†was wrong then. But is isn’t and wasn’t.¬†

      • beanyboy

Neil, it wasn’t years ago, it was Labours last term as Govt, Labour use the term hypocrisy on a regular basis to criticise the Govt, thats what I’m sick of, you can’t say logic is faulty, when the party concerned used the very same logic to¬†justify something that was not wanted by the public. Hypocrisy is hypocrisy, is was 100 years ago and it is today, by definition hypocrisy relates to things that happen in the past.

      • Guest

So if thats your rationale Neil, why do your lefty mates still carry on about Muldoon? Far less relevant to todays times than asset sales…

      • Pukakidon

I voted for National so I could buy some of the 49% of assets that would be up for investment.  It would not be right to turn around and go against that promise especially since they won the election on that promise and are now in Government.   Vote done, now it is time to sell me some of those investments.

  • Johnbronkhorst

Apology…NOT accepted..saying you’re sorry without true contrition and understanding of the wrong you did or said…Is absolutely MEANINGLESS. Also to be truely meaningful, an apology should be followed by a change of behaviour. All I see here is a vague excuse as to why she said it. As a wise man said to me….”excuses are like armpits, everyone has two and they both stink.” I await her sencond excuse, should be bordering on comedic!!

    • Blokeintakapuna

yep totally agree JBH Рand opinions are like belly buttons and arseholes Рeveryone has them, but not all of us want to see or hear them! haha

I hope some Jewish people or any holocaust survivours really take her to task for attempting to prostitute the missery inflicted upon these people in a clumsy attempt to further her own political gain.

      Absolutely atrocious and appalling behaviour.

Shearer should stand her down immediately and demand she publically apolagises to National and everyone else she has offended by her base comments.

Atrocious behaviour. Surely the MSM in their 4th estate role should hold her to account whilst Shearer shows some moral &¬†ethical leadership insisting she immediately retracts her statements¬†- then she can¬†humbly commit Seppuku begging for NZ’s forgiveness…¬†

      • Troy

Chances of that weak leader of taking action is about as high as thinking Mallard and Little for example are truthful, honest and honourable MP’s… yeah right.

  • gazzaw

Woods maybe a Canterbury society chardy socialist but in reality she’s no better than Fenton and her vile personal attack on Sir Peter Leitch.¬†Comparisons with Hitler are not acceptable in this country. ¬†

    • Johnbronkhorst

she is also factually incorrect. Hitler either nationalised some businesses, or forced them to toe the party line, in order to get his war machine up and running. Meaning LABOUR’S philosophies are a much better fit to this example!!!

  • Sarrs

It’s not an apology if you don’t say ‘sorry’.¬†

    • Blokeintakapuna

Anyone can say “sorry” – it’s the real intent and true contrition behind it that really counts. Sorry is just another word – meaningless without any real attempt at being sorry.

  • Phar Lap

Regardless of the silly Lie-bour MP called Woods, feigning crocodile tears on her crazy Nazi outburst on share sales, she still has a head on her like a bucket of blood. Not forgetting the other clown called Clayton Cosgrove with similar outbursts. He is the MP we got when he is not a real MP a¬† retread ,she is the MP we got when we didn’t check out her track record of lies and deceit.

  • Agent BallSack

How much cocaine is Elton on in that video?

    • http://www.whaleoil.co.nz Whaleoil

      Lots

    • Neil

Relevence?¬† And as WO has said lots – and Elton’s admitted heaps of times since those days.

      • Agent BallSack

Relevance? He’s in the video. Plus I don’t follow conventional rules….

Just for Neil: Stupid lying unapologetic Labour. Better?

  • Orange

    Megan was in heat?

    • Paddles83

Orange are you sure it wasnt  On Heat

  • Polishpride

Sometimes you have to smack people between the eyes with a piece of 4×2 to get them to understand something rather than politely tapping them on the shoulder.

    • Neil

The trouble with doing that is you tend to just stun them not open their eyes to their error.

      • Johnbronkhorst

I think polish is actually making an excuse for ms woods behaviour. For which there is none!

  • Rob_simpson

The funniest point there is that Hitler’s Nazi government aggressively nationalised companies…

    • In Vino Veritas

Yup Rob, if Woods and the Labour Party looked, they would find Hitler and the Nazi’s¬†policies were a whole lot more like the Labour party’s than the National Party’s.

    • Phronesis

One can only imagine what a pack of lies her PhD in history must have been.

  • Michael

Anyone who likes this song should google the Nataly Dawn version. One guitar and her voice, works really well,

    • Michael

      • TravisPoulson

Nice taste in music Michael, discovered this artist last year, what a talented singer.

  • Mike Hunt

    She is still lying

Her comments weren’t said in the heat of the moment, they were said to appeal to the lowest common denominator/her target market

She knows there is no point explaining her position on asset sales in financial
/technical terms so she resorts to base sensationalism

Another mouth-breathing Anderton in a skirt

  • Guest

I like the way she says it like it is. ¬†No PC nonsense. ¬†And interestingly, others are now saying the same thing. ¬†They’re not scared to say it.¬†

    • Neil

Agree – why the hell apologise when she felt that at the time….did some Zionist apologist get angry at the mere mention of Hitler in the context of New Zealand.

      • Grumpy

So, you don’t like Jews either, Neil?

      • Pukakidon

¬†Funny how the lefties don’t like the Jewish people, I think they are really more closer to the National Socialists, than the so called right.

      • gazzaw

Time to join the National Front Neil??

    • Johnbronkhorst

PC nonsence my arse!!! If you are going to use historical context to bolster your arguement…Then at least get the facts right. Hitlers view and actions were much more closely aligned to what labour are saying, than anything National have ever said or done!!!

  • Gest

I like the way she says it like it is. ¬†No PC nonsense. ¬†And interestingly, others are now saying the same thing. ¬†They’re not scared to say it.¬†

  • http://elephanza.blogspot.co.nz/ Duncan Brown

    I apologise = I’m sorry, I think you’re being pedantic

  • Guest

The Fentonisation of the Labour Party has seen a Jewish PM accused of leading a party just like the Nazis. Sick and sad.

  • Robert M

That the National Socialist Party was not¬†truthful about its intention to the German electorate in 1930-1933, in the three years before it assumed power, on the basis of being the largest party, but also political manoevers of its hard right supporters. The Nazi’s ran for power as a hard right conservative party that would restore pride in the military and Germany. They ran as a party that would powerfully defend middle class interests and permanently defend. While the Middle class who voted Nazi, may have feared unemployment, none of the unemployed voted Nazi and virtually none of the working class. The consistent Nazi message was immensely ¬†more than get on your bike hostility to the unemployed and a virtual call for the elimination and sterilization of the proletariat. In other words Joseph Goebbels definitely didn;t attract support in the hard red blocks of Berlin, and the first act the Nazi’s did when they took office, was to lock down and begin sterilisation of the people in¬† the KPD zones of Berlin. During the years the Nazi’s were rising to power, in 1929-33, Hitler never mentioned the Jewish issue or made anti semitic issues in public, and nobody voted for the Nazis for anti semitic reasons, outside back country areas were the immigration¬†of traditional jews from Poland inspired agitation. The hatred of the leading Nazis for the Jewish people was not based on religion or¬†historical factors, it was based on¬† a prejudice that too many were¬† ultra liberals, communist and showed contempt for the military and¬†adopted Pacifist attitudes. The burning hatredof the German military types were for those who had¬† enjoyed an all out party orgy of booze , sex and drugs behind the lines in¬† the German cities, between 1914 and 1918 and orgy that essentially continued until 1932, with any morality essentially being destroyed . It required money and employment to be a Nazi, as their was a sig gate fee to go to their meeting and the SS unifrorms were very expensive.

People were voting for hard right rule of the sort the SS and military represented and in essence the hard right had just adopted the fringe Nazi’s the equivalent of the BNF, few knew¬†Hitler was the real leader of the Party before 1933, most thought Strasser was the real leader. When Hitler assumed power he gradually went out of control, but even then to Hitler and Goring who was a Jew was arbitrary, it simply meant who they defined as such or not , and essentially it meant the same thing as a Communist official, ‘anybody who believed the shit can evolve’ and that is the real reason much of the American upper class and British middle class believed in the Nazis before 1940. In reality while the Nazi’s were eliminated in 1945, in reality the SS remained in control of Germany till the mid 1970′s-given the fact that Nazi Germany was a legally consituted state and SS¬†law¬† was stilll the German law till well into the 1970s and SS officers were in control of the German¬† police until then. In the mid 1950′s the Nazi’s would have been serious contenders for office with immediate 25% support if they ahd been allowed. The bader Meinhoff gang was largely a reaction to leading Nazis like Franz Joseph Strauss continued to run Germany and gave their friends such as the Shah, the gift¬†of delivering the Lufhansa hostessess to the¬†Shah’s entourage everytime they¬† arrived in Tehran for the obligatory sex.
¬† The real Nazi’s in NZ are Sue Bradford and her mates, her legislation is always approved SA and East German communism.¬†¬†

    • Johnbronkhorst

A few inconsistancies and wrong assumptions here. Without the working class (being promised jobs) and a psuedo anti upperclass revolution. The nazi’s would NEVER have come to power. Without the delivery on some of those promises, albeit built on lies and secret war preparation, the nazi’s would not have kept power. the brown shirts were the most powerful paramilitary group and not exactly trusting of hitler. That is why hitler conspired to rid himself of their leadership and built and developed the SS to replace them as a more loyal group. The implimentation of economic policy was structured around govt./central control of ALL businesses, via nationalisation and party bullying meaning germany had an economic structure that could possibly be described as gangster socialism…but was not to far removed from stalins communism and the principles of the various labour govt.s/parties around the world. Including ours!!!

    • Montana Muse

I would regard Sue Bradford as a Brown shirt thug.

  • AnonWgtn

A true Labour MP – plain stupid with a big mouth – should learn to breath through her nose.

  • Alex

It’s all very funny.¬† I knew Megan Woods at university, specifically the debatng society.¬† Like many middle class leftists, she considers herself some sort of equality warrior.¬† She would take umbrage at any perceived un-PC comment.¬† When she said something crass, would always reply that there was some impeccable logic behind her comment that we were obviously too unevolved to understand.¬† Also true to form for middle class leftists, she think herself morally and intellectual superior to all and sundry.

  • thesorrow&thepity

mmm strange, I remember sledging her on this blog site a couple of times before her Key uber alas comments. she’s a leftie revisionist history lecturer from Canterbury, a nasty elitist academic. One of her pales associate history professor katie pickles is another one who’s cast from the same mold & occasionally gets her poison pen letters into the papers. Interesting how all of these liberal academics are completely identical with 0 degree of individuality!

    • Alex

¬†Thanks for reminding me of Katie Pickles.¬† She had just started when I was at Canterbury.¬† She goes down as the woman who wrote a letter to the editor of the Chch Press to the effect that, now the earthquakes had destroyed the historical buildings, Chch should rejoice as it could now shed it’s colonial heritage and embrace multiculturalism.¬† Aren’t these leftist so caring?!¬†

      • thesorrow&thepity

Hehe I got a letter to the editor in the press that completely broad sided her. Yeah she got slammed for her caring views, couldn’t believe the sunday star times ran one of her hate articles!

  • Phil ure still a butthole

Not just hypocrisy, but irony. Hitler and his national socialist party would have opposed any sell down of the fatherland’s assets, just like Liebore and the watermelons oppose this sale of their “motherland’s”
