Global Warming melts street lights…or not

Global Warming alarmists will try to claim anything that “proves” their delusions. Like street lights melting because of high temperatures caused, of course, by global warming:

Followed up by an alarmist tweeting the same to a US Senator:

But there are more than a few problems with their hypothesis. Stillwater Oklahoma isn’t nearly as hot as Phoenix, Arizona where the highest temperature recorded is 50°C…which although hot isn’t nearly hot enough to melt High density polyethelene (HDPE) from which the Street Light Globes are made. The melting point of those is 130°C.

Perhaps if the alarmists had checked the news then they would have found out that the street lights melted, not because of global warming, but because of warming of a different nature:

But according to KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City, the street lamps melted because of a dumpster fire in the area the night before. KFOR first posted the streetlamp photo on its Facebook page.

    You’d think even a dyed-in-the-wool warmist would stop for a second and think about the physics involved – maybe it was intended as just a windup, otherwise the degree of stupidity is mind-blowing.

    I recall even in high school physics, let alone at uni, being taught to do mental calcs based on first principles rather than relying totally on formulas. It’s pretty easy to be out by an order of magnitude or two if you have no idea what answer to reasonably expect.

    Actually, that’s the fundamental problem with warmism: a few seconds’ thought tells you that human activity can’t possibly have anything more than localised and/or short-term effect as far as the climate is concerned. The earth is a remarkably resilient piece of kit.

All it shows is melting ice, not the cause. What you need is the tropospheric hot spot to prove your point, which doesn’t exist.

         you’re a fool.  i provided graphs of the artic as they clearly show the effects of global warming. you have a weird definition of cherry picking! the graphs show extent and mass of ice going back some thirty odd years over what is effectively a continent! some cherry picking!

        i’ll tell you what is cherry picking tho,  claimimg that there has been no warmimg since 1988, or that there has been cooling in the last ten years.

        In an absence of any evidence all you have is abuse. Still doesn’t prove AGW though.

    The AGW thing is wearing a little thin, so anything that could [by any stretch of the imagination] chuck another log on the fire…
    “Let no crisis go to waste”, though I don’t think streetlight globes melting constitute a crisis.
