Poland has no electoral college votes

ŠĒ• ABC News

Mitt Romney seems to be blessed with a special kind of stupid. He is currently touring Poland, which last time I checked doesn’t have any electoral college votes. I imagine some tool in his campaign team thought a world tour would make him look presidential:

Remembering in Poland- 7:39 p.m. CET (12:39 a.m. EST)¬†Mitt, Ann¬†and son, Josh Romney lay a wreath in remembrance at the¬†Westerplatte Memorial in GdaŇĄsk,¬†Poland. ¬†The memorial site is located where the first shots were fired in World War II. The memorial symbolizes the clash between Polish and German forces during the¬†Invasion of Poland.

A Nobel Endorsement by former Polish President -¬†06:30 p.m.CET (11:30 a.m. EST)¬†- Lech Walesa, the Nobel Prize winner and former Polish president, ‚Äúhas effectively endorsed Romney.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúI wish you to be successful because this success is needed to the United States, of course, but to Europe and the rest of the world, too. Gov Romney, get your success ‚Äď be successful,‚ÄĚ Walesa told Romney, according to a translator.

  • Kiwikea

U mean the kind of tour Obama took 4 years ago?

  • Tony

ABC shows it’s bias again.¬† How about this:

    a.  Poles feature as a large population in the NE of the US;

    b.  Poland was , along with AUSCANZUK, NOR, the fastest nations out of the blocks to support the US post 9/11;

    c. Ex-Polish president (can’t spell it) Solidarity leader and freedom fighter endorsed Romney – which neatly contrasts with Chevez’s support for Obama.

  • AnonWgtn

He is showing himself to be more of a c…¬†than M’Bama.
    God help America, whichever way.
The Decline and Fall of the American Empire is well under way.
It would appear to be impossible to turn the tides back having gone too far to do so.

    • Tony

another accusation without evidence – tell us why you think the way you do.

What would you do to change direction – or don’t you want the US to regain it’s place in the world?

      • Polish_pride

No I want the system to fall so we can replace it

      • Super_Guest

@Polish_pride:disqus Your system is naive fantasy only workable within the confines of your tinfoil hat.

      • Polish_pride

Superguest it is completely workable if you can open your mind
Please find me something that won’t work. I have posted it about 3 times and been able to answer every question put up.
Super its all very well and good to come on and say it won’t work but if you can’t say why then you¬†probably¬†haven’t taken the¬†time to have a proper look at what was proposed.
Furthermore it is not my system, I can’t take credit for it (wish I could) and there are many who do understand it who will disagree with you.
Remember at one time flight was impossible
Going to the moon - impossible
Earth revolving around the sun – impossible.
Black President in America – impossible
Here’s an idea Instead of saying ‘can’t’……..start thinking ‘how’.
Because whether you want to admit it or not your life and world would be much better if it was done.

      • Polish_pride

What Super no response – the reality is you are no different than any other whinger and bludger in this country only too willing to have a cry and a moan about the problems in this country and the world but too small minded to add anything of substance to the debate let alone come up with other options or solutions that would fix things.

  • Wapjap

Lots of Polish people live in the USA.  Not entirely stupid.

    • le sphincter

but would the strongly catholic Polish Americans vote for a non Christian?

      • kiwiinamerica

The Obamacare mandate that forces Catholic colleges and hospitals (large employers in the US) to include morally objectionable coverage for birth control and abortion inducing drugs has caused outrage in the Catholic community – when you have pretty much every Bishop and Priest mentioning their opposition to it from the pulpit, I think you’ll find plenty of Catholics who would see Romney as more Christian than Obama.

Every Mormon I know holds a deep and abiding faith in Christ and, like Romney, they put their money where their mouth is by considerable charitable giving and spontaneous acts of Christian service.

      • Dr Wang

le sphincter: “but would the strongly catholic Polish Americans vote for a non Christian?”If you are referring to Romney, I think you’ll find the Mormon church (otherwise known as “the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints”) would fit the broad description of a Christian Church. If you are referring to Obama, and¬†inferring that Barrack Hussein Obama is a Muslim – well that’s a whole different conspiracy theory, and if true…then you may have a point.

      • gazzaw

About the same number as American Jews who would like to see Romney reduce Iran to a nuclear wasteland…….fuck all.

God help America (and the rest of us) if this nutbar gets anywhere near Pennsylvania Ave.

      • le sphincter

¬†The Mormon Church is not a Christian church and never has been, even ¬†the more modern version ¬†they have today. ¬†They may well emphasis “jesus’ ¬†today to try and blend in among the other mainstream churches.

“However, the¬†Catholic Church¬†considers doctrinal differences between the two groups to be so great that it will not accept a prior LDS baptism as evidence of Christian initiation, as it will baptism by other Christian groups such as¬†Protestants- wikipedia

They are not fooled by this Adam Smith version of Christianity

      • Johnbronkhorst

Fuckwit…..mormons ARE christians…..dum fuck, every time you open your mouth, miraculously, just when we thought there was a limit to stupid, something even more stupid comes out.

      • le sphincter

        Sorry John you are incorrect.
        This is essence of Christianity
         - God is conceived both as a unity and a Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are described as three persons of one uncreated divine being, equally infinite, eternal, and unchangeable.

Its not what Mormons believe, let alone all the other nonsense about revelations from  ADam Smith and others

      • Johnbronkhorst

NO shimky you are wrong again…anyone who invokes christ in their religion…..is by definition a christian…just as much any one that talks absolute bollocks…like YOU….is a fuck wit!

      • le sphincter

John , with respect what you have defined  is really  just a cult.

A few of the essentials of Christian doctrine were 1) the Trinity: there is one God, but God is a Trinity of three distinct co-eternal Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; 2) the Two Natures of Jesus Christ, both human and divine and the fact that He is one divine person; 3) that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity who is co-eternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit; 4) the revelation of Christ as preached by the Apostles is the final public revelation (which ended with the death of the last apostle) and there will be no further public revelation before the final coming of Jesus Christ (CCC 66, 73; and 5) and baptism for the remission of sins in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Mormon theology denials of all of the above
Among Evangelical Protestants the word ‚Äúcult‚ÄĚ usually refers to a religious group claiming to be Christian but denying the essential doctrines of historical Christianity. These would include Mormons, Jehovah‚Äôs Witnesses and other such groups¬†

        Sphincter
Its Joseph not Adam Smith. Your contention is that Catholics won’t vote for Romney because Mormons dont conform to their version of Christianity. I think that the religion issue is a zero sum game for each campaign. If we want to have a fight about Romney’s seemingly weird religion¬†the Obama camp knows that the GOP Super PACs are locked, loaded and ready to fire the Rev Wright “Goddamn America” footage.¬† What will turnoff Independent voters more: radical black liberation theory as preached by Wright or LDS proxy baptisms? All religions appear weird to outsiders as do most Christian religions to non believers. Do you honestly think that the long held Catholic belief that their Priests turn the wafer into the literal body of Christ for mass attendees to eat his flesh prevented Protestants from voting for JFK?

      • le sphincter

Big difference  The catholic protestant thing was about whether the  Kennedy would obey the Roman pontiff .   Romney is a much better Mormon than JFK was a Catholic. But he isnt a  christian as defined by the major churches that are
Rev Wright ? And that worked last time ! In fact  it emphasises his church attendance. Black firebrand ministers are less common that hedge fund vultures who pay no taxes

      • kiwiinamerica

Obama never faced any campaign onslaught re Rev Wright because McCain wouldn’t go there – if Obama tries to use Romney’s religion in the campaign, Americans will be reminded of the un American leanings of a preacher Obama happily listened to for 20 years. Middle American perceptions of Mormons is of hard working, kind patriots a real contrast to Wright. The minutiae of doctrine is not what will decide the election.

Like the Dems, you have zero evidence of the ‘no tax paid’ claim. Watch for Romney to challenge Obama that he’ll release his 2009 tax returns when Obama releases his Columbia transcripts, his 2008 returns when Obama releases his medical records, his 2007 returns when Obama releases his transcripts from Harvard and his 2006 returns when Obama releases the footage of his candidate intro meeting (held in Bill Ayers home) and then his 2005 returns when Obama explains why his Social Security number has a Connecticut prefix when he was resident in Hawaii when it was issued.

Romney created many more jobs from the profitable companies Bain funded than jobs lost from the few companies that failed – I’ll take that experience plus the 2002 Olympics turnaround compared to Obama’s failed trillion dollar stimulus, the worse recovery since the great Depression and running nothing more than the Harvard Law Review staff of 3.

      • Bunswalla

I admit to being a little sick in my mouth at agreeing with the poo-hole, but I believe he’s correct on this one (and only one) occasion. The church of LDS is not a christian church and it was founded by a proven quack whose own wife didn’t even believe his ridiculoius stories about being given golden tablets by god that only he could see and translate.

I think he even hung a curtain or a blanket in his kitchen and forbade his wife from seeing the miraculous tablets which he translated to her while she sat on a chair on the other side of the blanket. After a while she declared the whole thing to be bollocks and went behind the curtain to see these golden tablets, which had evidently just popped out to the pub.

The fact that LDS is or isn’t a christian church is completely immaterial anyway, since all religions and gods are made-up bollocks anyway.

Neither is the fact that Poland doesn’t have any electoral college votes material to Romney’s chance of being elected – Americans have gradually realised that there are other countries in the world and they very much care what they think of the US and its President. The latest gaffes where his aides told reporters to “kiss my ass” and “shove it” demonstrate the class of this buffoon. You truly are judged by the company you keep and if you can’t control your paid underlings on an important tour to demonstrate your readiness to be in charge of one of the world’s superpowers, it’s not a good look.

You’d have to be incredibly stupid to think that news won’t filter back to the US, and that voters won’t pay attention to the perception he’s given, which is pretty much “Palin in a suit”.

      • kiwiinamerica

        Bunswalla
My LDS friends tell me that 8 others saw and handled the gold plates and not a one of them recanted from that testimony and that Emma Smith (wife of Joseph Smith) never denied the divinity of the Book of Mormon.

If you view the footage of the lead up to the “shove it” comment you’ll hear the media shrieking questions to Romney as he walks to one of Poland’s more sacred sites. Having an aide tell the media off for their lack of decorum is actually an electoral plus. The reputation of the MSM in the US is plummeting and their shameless pro Obama spin means more and more voters take the¬†MSM coverage of Romney’s trip with a grain of salt.

      • Bunswalla

@e69f19a02996de7ed47c4c425009497e:disqus¬†I think that was your LSD friends….

      • Johnbronkhorst

sphinky…re christian doctorines, the only requirement to be a christian is…..Drum roll………….to believe and follow the teachings of CHRIST…you know….Jesus Christ….deciples, sermon on mounts, miracles, crosses etc…Dick head you will always be!!!!! According to you and your definition, catholosism, CofE, Anglicans, Prespitarians, lutherins, are all just cults…….because they all worship in a slightly different way, the bible…foundation of the teachings does not tell you how to worship, just that you should.

      • Tony

Arse muscle – wasn’t it John Smith – not Adam Smith?¬† Adam Smith wrote the book wealth of Nations – don’t worry, I am quite sure that you never read it

  • kiwiinamerica

If you read his speech Cameron you’ll know why he went there. Poland’s economy is a showcase of how the¬†free market can bring strong GDP growth¬†and prosperity after the shackles of communism¬†were shaken off. Poland has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe and has maintained growth in the face of the GFC and its many faltering debt laden high tax neighbours.

I find it hugely ironic that you fulminate about the left leaning bias in the NZ media and you fill such a valuable role in publishing stories that the NZ MSM wont investigate or only with a lefty spin and yet you cite, link to and clearly believe the same left leaning American MSM rubbish when it comes to Romney vs Obama. The disconnect is glaring!

    • le sphincter

Have you too been sitting on a cracker ?

How come Poland has  had a population decline  with nearly 900,000 leaving for Britain alone since joining the EU ?
There is no jobs for the young , unemployment at 12.5% and with inflation at 4%, its going great – yeah right

      • Johnbronkhorst

So with those numbers….you agree that John Key is doing a brilliant job!!!

      • kiwiinamerica

Poland’s growth rate last year was 3rd only to Estonia and Latvia (if you exclude oil rich Russia and the various former Soviet states nearby) in all of Europe – Poland has had a massive readjustment from its previous state run command and control economy and so 12% is way below what it was in 2000. Poland doesn’t have natural gas and oil like the former Soviet states has nor could it draw on the vast wealth of Germany as was the case with East Germany. Poland’s journey from repression to freedom is a story worth telling and its strong loyalty to the US since the collapse of the Iron Curtain and Obama’s abandonment of the missle defence shield all make for excellent themes for Romney to highlight.

      • le sphincter

Sorry kia, Estonia  may be back crawling out of the hole Ruth Richardson led it but its not what you would call a sucess.
Real GDP dropped  20% from 2007 and is still 10% less than pre GFC.

NZ by comparison has ‘only’ dropped ¬†1.5% or so in real GDP ¬†per head since National came to power

      • AnonWgtn

        Sph
And how many men returned to Poland from UK, once their families hooked into the UK Welfare and Education system ?
The men could not find economic work in UK, and Poland was rising so they returned. After all it is a cheap flight back to UK if they wanted to.

Sph -¬†let’s have all the facts and not just the selected¬†part you like.

    • Bunswalla

What’s glaring is your stupidity and naivete in believing that Romney has ever had an original thought of any consequence. Any speech he makes is carefully written by speechwriters, yet they’re still full of meaningless platitudes. Any time he opens his mouth in an interview or responds to questions, he puts his foot in it.

And if you can judge a man by the company he keeps (or the employees he pays to assist him in his futile quest to be POTUS), the guy’s a grade-A douchebag.

  • Clint

You forget that Obama reversed a policy to build the missile shield base in Poland (and Czech) which was a popular policy as it was a symbolic move to align them against their hated rivals, Russia. Obama backed down to appease the Russians and this wasnt too popular at all.

Plus who can forget that cringeworthy attempt by Obama to emulate JFK in Berlin? Ugh.

    • Bunswalla

At least Obama didn’t criticise his hosts, call into question their ability to run the Olymoics, and get all palsy about how white they all were (OK Obama was never going to do that), or piss off all Germany’s neighbours like Romney did in Israel, and his staff didn’t tell the following media to “kiss my ass’ and “shove it”. Smart, real smart¬†to piss off the people whose job it is to report back home about how the tour is going.

      Oh, and classy too.

      • Bumswailer

The Olympics are a disaster though.

ADDENDUM: in autocorrect, “Bumswailer” comes up as “bi swapper.” Very fitting.

  • Johnbronkhorst

There are plenty of electoral college votes in Poland &¬†Israel due to the MASSIVE expat population that align hemselves with these countries…Could be the smarest move he has made yet….Waiting to see!!!

  • Mitch

All he’s done here is get the media laughing at the ‘Poland’s Choice – R. Paul’. Romney is a moron, and no matter how hard¬†@e69f19a02996de7ed47c4c425009497e:disqus¬†or the MSM keep stuttering the words “presumptive nominee”, I’ll be waiting until late August to see whether the GOP is actually dumb enough to follow through on it’s threat to nominate him.

If Ron Paul had no shot at the nomination, the Romney campaign wouldn’t have gone into warp speed this last fortnight trying to discredit all Paul delegates at the 11th hour before RNC submissions were due.

    • le sphincter

Sorry Mitch Romney will be the nominee!
The only way he could lose , would be to ditch his wife and walk into the convention with Hilary Clinton on his arm !

  • kiwiinamerica

    Mitch
More Paul supporter fantasising. It would take for Romney to stand down for that to happen and with Gallup tracking tied and Rasmussen tracking showing Romney up by 3% even after Obama has hammered Romney with a current 3:1 spending advantage – never going to happen. For Paul to even be nominated as VP would require a 5th state’s Romney pledged delegates to switch camps – chances of that happening: millions to one.

But let’s assume that there is something that causes Romney to stand down, what chance do you really think that Paul has against Obama assuming that the rest of the GOP convention attendees would turn to Paul when Santorum has way¬†more delegates than him?

In short – like Ron Paul you’re dreaming.

    • Mitch

Your Rasmussen polls don’t look so good when they’re stacked up against all the other polls:

      http://realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

Ron Paul has 5 states – some say 6 or more. The RNC has already announced that he’ll speak at Tampa and that he’s¬†eligible¬†for nomination. Romney knows this, that’s why he’s trying to throw an 11th hour hail mary pass, and have those plurality states throw out the Ron Paul delegates on the edge of submissions so they don’t have much time to fight it.

As for Paul Vs. Obama? It depends on which poll you look at, and the date. RCP currently has Obama beating Ron Paul by a small amount more than he’s beating Romney:

      http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_paul_vs_obama-1750.html

Yet the Christian Science Monitor, who seem to hold alot of sway in the US, wrote this in February:

      http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/The-Vote/2012/0228/Ron-Paul-poll-shocker-He-beats-Obama-head-to-head

And since you’re a fan of Rasmussen Polls, lets look at them:

      http://www.ronpaul.com/2012-ron-paul/ron-paul-polls/

Now, considering he hasn’t even turned his attention to Obama, I’d say by your own standards, he’s not doing so badly.

Seriously, take a time to look at the links. Spend some time on places like DailyPaul.com where you’re going to get the unbiased facts, good or bad, about the RP campaign, rather than hearing what the Mainstream Media over there wants to tell you.

      • kiwiinamerica

        Mitch
What are you prepared to wager that Paul will be the nominee and will beat Obama?

      • Bunswalla

Mitch, I agree with everything you say, but sadly the American public are by and large too stupid to go and get facts for themselves. Most will rely on soundbites and recognition of the name/face they see most often in the media. Since the MSM has actively sought to render Ron Paul invisible and mute as far as humanly possible, he just won’t get in front of enough people to win the nomination or the race itself. But neither will Romney be elected – Obama will win comfortably.

      • Mitch

@e69f19a02996de7ed47c4c425009497e:disqus¬†I don’t bet, never have, never will. And I’m not going to wager with some guy I argue against on a blog. I will say that I think Ron Paul has a BIG chance of being nominated in place of Romney in Tampa. I understand that you disagree with that, but from the facts that I’ve seen, I think he can beat Romney. That’s my informed decision, and I could just as easily be wrong.

If he’s nominated, then the game changes. I can’t say for sure whether Ron Paul could beat Obama. You can’t really expect the American public to do what’s logical to yourself as an individual. I will say that he’d completely destroy him in a debate, as will happen if he’s to run against him. Romney can’t beat him, but he’s shown he can keep enough in the race to make it look like he’s trying. I think Ron Paul would most certainly do better against Obama than Romney would.

      • Mitch

@85275dc05370f0c88cfd49ecc09a4de0:disqus¬†Yeah, I agree with you on the American public, but the thing that strikes me is the fervour in the support Ron Paul has. He’s literally raising a revolution, people are calling him a cult icon. His rallies at the colleges and universities are ‘packed to the rafters, call the Fire Marshall’ kinda shows. People are waking up. People are still waiting for the ‘Change’ that Obama campaigned on 4 years ago, and realising he was talking about the stuff in their pockets.

  • Johnphd

Proclaiming Romney as stupid, WO, like most of the liberal/left media, flys in the face of the facts.
His overseas tour, was not designed to please the bleating liberal media,   and despite your naive headline, was in fact aimed  at US voters in swing states.
    1.  He has locked up the crucial Jewish vote with his pro Israeli visit, which will be important in a big swing state like Forida, with a lot of retired Jewish voters
    2. He has raked in big donations from his overseas visits to London and Israel, with further  money pledges from Jewish billionaires like Sheldon Adelson ($90 million and counting)
    3. Romney has also now locked up the crucial Polish ex pat vote in swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania
    4. He has also shown that he is a conviction politician, by socking it to the precious English( stating the bleeding obvious about the security cockup) and by sticking it to the Palestinians(always a vote winner in the US)
But , hey let’s not let the facts get in the way of a good story

  • Super_Guest

Romney’s running on a record of success in a lefty state. Obama ran on soundbites and his skin colour, and is now running on bollocks about how good his first term was. I know who I’d vote for.

    • Bunswalla

Then fuck off to America and vote for him.
