    Man those Republicans are dumb . They all cheered when Clint said get out of Afghanistan tomorrow . Apparently Romney was wincing backstage , as his position is the same as Obama’s. .

      Not to mention the delightful report of some attendees throwing peanuts at Afro-American reporters and saying “that’s what we feed animals”. I visit the USA annually, and get a palpable sense that the place is in terminal decline. Your average decent American has been totally disengaged by the partisan rubbish between Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats have been highjacked by the smug Liberal elite; and the Republicans highjacked by a collection of nasty pack of fundys and bigots. Both sides are willing idiots for the bankers and military contractor companies. The USA needs to return to its resource-based, and idealistic, capitalism in order to rebuild itself.

        You’ve got it in one Alex. Up until 2008 I visited the US twice a year on business, mainly Florida & even then the place was in decline. Unemployment was pretty bad in Miami so I can’t imagine what the GFC and four more years of weak government has done to the place. It really is depressing to see the crap politicians that are thrown up by both parties at election time & the immoral amounts of money spent on getting either loser elected.

          I travel to the US a bit. I think Florida is a basket case. There are some great stories in the other states. Remember they are 50 separate countries economically – all probably bigger economies than NZ.

          I think the US is poised for a golden century. The returns from shale gas are already trickling in and become a flood. They will be self sufficient in transportation fuel inside 10 years which means there’s no need to expend blood and treasure in the Middle East. (BTW, one of the reasons Solid Energy is in the crap is the US coal business is being destroyed by cheap gas as they shut down thermal power stations and export their coal at really low prices). One of the benefits of the GFC is the auto companies have restructured savagely and can now compete with China. Wondered why China is struggling? They no longer have it their way.

          Another benefit of shale gas – US has already more than met its Kyoto obligations – didn’t hear the left mention that much. Another benefit of getting rid of old coal electricity generation. It’s easy to mock Americans but they do put their heads down and go for it. They may have been down but don’t count them out.

          I actually thought the Eastwood skit tremendously funny. It cruelly exposed the current President as empty and invisible.

    So Clint directs his comments to an imaginary Obama and he is senile and stupid. Leftie comedians do same to imaginary Palin (or any other conservative in their sights) in their monologues and they are witty and cutting edge.

    I’m a big Clint Eastwood fan but his performance was a bit embarrassing. He’s 82 now, and it really showed. Sad to see him like that.
