It is a tree FFS.  How the hell does a tree end up costing this much?

$6951 charged by Auckland Transport (costs case for resource consent, engineer and arborist’s fees plus travel charges)
$2832.38 by Auckland Parks, Sports & Recreation (incurred costs $1294 plus budgeted removal costs $1538.38)
$2516 for resource consent processing
$12,299.38 total costs to date

Where is Sandra Goudie and her chainsaw these days?  Her words from 2005 certainly apply here:

“These people are sick of the political correctness crap. They don’t mind a bit of oversight or a few guidelines, but they just want tools to manage it, or they want [Council] to manage it.

“We’ve got to knock some of this red tape on the head.”

Auckland needs a redneck to sort this crap out.

Just the sort of pretentious pricks that are ‘surviving’ on $2.25 a day this week. How about they sit down and agree to prune the pohutukawa (the rat of the bush by the way) and donate the wad of cash to the starving of the world rather than to litigious lawyers. Like fuck they will, you don’t get your photo in the paper for doing something logical.

      Here in Wellington , we just get the Council in to cut the natives…just shows how meaningless this whole mass of consent law has become .

      The residents were angry when they found more than 1000 karo, karaka, pohutukawa and other native trees had been cut down, ring-barked or poisoned by Wellington City Council and Wellington Regional Council staff.

    I guess we still have to get the Iwi blessing after suitable consultation (and generous koha). That should put the costs up a bit more.
    And then we can look forward to the Maori claims for compensation for cutting down their taonga.God, don’t ya just love this country!

    the red tape dealing with auckland city is a fucking nightmare.
    That is the sole reason that houses and construction is just so expensive. The time and expense associated with building is literally out of control.
