Clover Moore has the shits with the Liberals. They changed the law to kick her out of parliament.
An emotional Clover Moore has lashed out at “odious” laws forcing her out of state politics and criticised a “cowardly and bullying media” during her final speech to the NSW Parliament.
Vocal supporters of the popular Sydney MP packed the public gallery of the state’s lower house, wearing Clover Moore T-shirts and waving placards emblazoned with her image.
Clover Moore farewells the lower house after her last speech as the state MP for Sydney.
They gave her a standing ovation when she entered the lower house, cheered repeatedly during her 20-minute valedictory speech and giving her another ovation when she finished.
Ms Moore, who became an independent state MP in 1988, said she had worked with seven premiers and five speakers during her more than 24 years at Macquarie Street.
She was re-elected as Sydney lord mayor earlier this month but under the O’Farrell government’s so-called “get Clover” laws, which ban MPs from sitting on local councils, she must now resign as a NSW MP.
A beautiful play to get rid of political opponent. Clover Moore was a pain in the arse and getting rid of her was a good move. Politics in New Zealand needs more low bastardry, not the kind of amateur hour stuff that Trevor Mallard dreams up.
