Oh look another dodgy Colin Craig Poll

Colin Craig has gone back to using his dodgy polling company again…you know the one that said he’d win Epsom…then the one that said he would win Rodney in a landlside, Check out my previous posts on Research First and their seriously dodgy polling methodology.

Craig today defended using the quote, saying it was a reflection of what some voters thought.

”It is certainly the comment that got me thinking where John Key was on this issue and where the electorate was. People express themselves in different ways. I’ve heard lots of people express themselves on this debate in ways that I wouldn’t.”

Helensville was more conservative than other electorates, Craig conceded.

For the first time, Key was not voting in accordance with his electorate on a conscience issue, he said. ”That’s a change in the game.”

Key had voted against civil unions and has said changed his vote to vote against prostitution reform after feedback from his electorate.

The Conservatives hired Research First to poll Helensville voters on the issue of gay marriage and gay adoption.

About 89 per cent said their MP should consult their electorate over conscience votes and vote the way voters wanted them to, it found.

We know all about Colin Craig dodgy polling. Let’s see the questions…I bet they are as loaded as the previous ones.

Colin Craig says dumb things, does dumb things, and is showing that politically he is a muppet.

    Funny. You’ve never asked that question re other polls you’ve approved of.

    Let’s face it. The outcome of any poll can be adjusted by tailoring the questions to suit the desired objective, and I’ve hardly ever seen a poll on an issue the Progressives are pursuing that has had anything but subjective questions.

    If we are going to criticise poll results on the basis of the questions asked, let’s be consistent.

            1: His opposition to gay marraige is rooted in the religious aspect.
            2: He refuses to argue the religious aspect of the issue.
            3: He calls for intelligent debate.
            4: He claims that it’s not intelligent to think that gay marriage is normal.
            5: He sends out a pamphlet calling John Key gay.

            Even if I were opposed to gay marriage, I would be ridiculing this guy. I’ll give an intelligent opponent all respect in the world, but when it comes to this guy, he’s the intellectual equivalent of a monkey feeling great about himself for flinging poo through the bars. If he thought it’d get him votes, he’d run naked down K Road screaming ‘I’m A Little Teapot’.

            He’s an opposition politician currently getting more coverage than Shearer & Norman combined. Sure he’s making hay while the sun shines – but look at the other Conservative policies:
            – fully armed police with the laws to let them use those arms
            – castle doctrine of self-defense
            – personal and parental responsibility laws
            – termination of welfare system
            – termination of state schools
            and tell me they’re not vastly better than anything else on offer in NZ

            How right you are with this statement Red…
            Some people marry for love, Some people marry to procreate, some people marry because they believe it is the only legitimate way they can have sex, some people marry for companionship; and I am sure there are many other reasons people marry. So marriage itself cannot be ‘one thing to all people’ as many here have suggested it should. Marriage is progressive just as the rest of our society is. We don’t eat the same recipies our grandmother made all the time, but we do still eat. Marriage too has moved on and now is about to include men with men and women with women. If you don’t like the offering – don’t eat it, and eat something else. Stop thinking you have the right to tell everyone else that they have to eat the same as you!
            And Colin Craig is a bigot.

            That’s the problem, you’re not being “fair” to CC. If you were being fair, you’d be telling him to pull up his socks, drop the ego and get proper political advice. As I’ve said many times to CC’s aggrieved supporters on this blog, WO is doing you a favour in pointing out CC’s follies. If you lot can rein him in, then perhaps CC will have a chance. If not, then wait until the Left start taking him seriously, then CC will feel the heat.

            Again, if we have misread the wind on the same sex marriage thing, why is CC campaigning in the south Auckland seats where this issue may well have pertinence? And where it would damage Labour?

            Nobody expects moderators to be perfect but it would be nice to have a modicum of consistency.

            The fact is that the political scenario is slowly evolving into a Conservatives versus Progressives scenario.

            Soon, we will all have to pick one of those sides.

            Looks to me like contributors are fairly divided on this issue, although the inevitable abuse tends to sidetrack the debate. For me Colin Craig comes across as a novice polly with a lot to learn about politics. However I do believe he understands his core values and these will resonate with a lot of voters next time round

            Novice as he is taking on JK the most popular polly in his home electorate. I assume that this is a ‘any publicity is good publicity’ thought.
            It would be good for Colin to develop 2nd and 3rd in the Conservative line up – so he doesn’t look like a one man band.

            Agreed, you just need to look at how the comments are marked up to know there’s plenty of support, alot of it by people that refrain from commenting. The changes to Disqus are quite good, its nice to have a gauge how many agree/disagree.

    I used to live in the Helensville electorate. I voted for Key as my MP last election and if I was still there I would happily do so again of Craig, who is too nutty and too intellectually dishonest to earn my vote.

    Amazing what you can get away with by quoting anonymous citizens. I was talking to a couple of shop owners this morning about this “John Key is too gay for this electorate” comment. The first lady said “Colin Craig looks like a sifty pedophile priest with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome”. The second said “he gave an amazing performance as the sloth in the Ice Age movies”.

    But, I mean, I’m just quoting what someone said to me. Y’know?

    Regardless of Colin Craigs idea of a poll, I think M.P’s should consult their electorate before making a conscience vote. He who pays the piper calls the tune, and we definitely pay hard. I suppose this begs the question – who do the Greens ask? And, do we really want to know? Should list M.P’s be able to vote at all in a conscience vote? After all, they obviously have no conscience and probably no morals either – too busy towing the party line to make sure they keep their position on the list. That’s Monday’s rave out of the way, I’m going for a lie down.

            Isn’t it strange that the moral high ground is the position you go. I see the religious sitting on their hill saying “we’re on the high ground” and the liberals sitting on their hill saying “no we’re on the high ground”. But all of our hills are in NZ, a democracy where laws should reflect the wishes of the people. This is my point. Morals or not – let the people have a referendum and as I’ve said before I’ll listen/respect the result.

            We do not live in a country governed by referendum. We live in a representative democracy. We elect people to make the laws for us.Every 3 years we get to either replace them or not depending on what they say they will do for us.

            Also referendums are costly. Poll after poll after poll clearly show NZ is wanting this. So the only reason to have a referendum would be to stall it.

            This is the way our laws are made, if people do not like it, they are free to leave for a country more suited to their taste.

    Just out of interest Whale, is it possible to check each electorate and see which way each member of parliament is voting on this? Surely there are going to be multiple members of electorates voting different ways, if so, there must be a number of dodgy polls flowing around out there!
