Please bear with me

Just a wee note for readers that my mind and focus at the moment is on family matters.

It may take longer than usual to get back to emails and messages. I am reading them though so don’t stop sending them.

I’d like to thank my friends for their help and support especially in relation to the blog helping me collate, manage and publish posts over the past few days and for the days ahead when things are going to be a bit tougher. It means I can concentrate on supporting Dad at this time. I appreciate it¬†immensely¬†and I am so grateful I have caring friends like I do.

    Hi Whale

I’m often critical of your blog posts and ideas.

But I’m genuinely saddened to read about your family situation, and hope that things go as well as they can for your Mum.

You’re a good man to put your family first. I’m sure they appreciate your support.

Take all the time you need, we’ll still be here when you get back.

Cameron , you could put up a daily general debate to keep us occupied .

Best regards to your father . He can be proud of his son .

  • Teletubby

From my personal experience of going through exactly what you are can I just say don’t forget to look after yourself as well. I’ve been there and made the mistake of running round looking after everyone else and didn’t take any time to deal with how I was feeling, result was I was a shambles for the next year because I hadn’t done any grieving.

No need to say “hang in there Cam” as it appears to be your MO. Something you do with distinction.

Thoughts and prayers are with your whole family Cam. When my mum was knockin’ on Heaven’s door, we took a “no regrets” approach; we resolved to leave nothing undone or unsaid. And as painful as her death was, it was easier to bear knowing that we had done what we could in her last months.

Take whatever time you need, and don’t get so focused on toughing it out for everyone else in your family that you ignore your own needs. Just know that the Whale Army is behind you at this shitty time.

The child parent relationship is as important to an adult child as it is to a minor and even if you are familiar with death and associated grief the overwhelming emptiness from losing a loved parent puts you in an emotional place you have never been before. The every present rock in your life has left and there is a huge hole, don’t fall in it. The loss of my mother was an experience I would never want to go through again and I wish you and your family as much strength as you can gather over this time.

Take care of that family Cam

Kia Kaha Cam, our thoughts and love go out to you and your family.

I’m very sorry to hear this about your mum, Cameron. These are hard days, I know. Wretched days.
Our parents give us something irreplaceable and precious. Their gift stays with us, even after we lose the givers.
Look after yourself and your family. I’m confident in you that you’ll be doing what you need to do.
I send you and your family my best wishes for peace.
