Green jobs

Green Jobs.

Can somebody explain to me what a green job is?

Russel Norman, co-leader of the Green Taliban is involved in murdering a few trees today with his column in the Herald.

In it he uses all the usual marketing tosh that the Green Taliban are so adept at using but to save you the time of reading it, I shall translate it into English.

Coal is bad, as is oil, plastic, cars, nylon and any other man made item.

Green jobs = subsistence foraging, death at 35.

I kid you not, this nutter wants half the country to die and the rest to shit themselves inside out eating grass. Lucky for us there will be plenty of grass because we have to kill all the farm animals too.

I am now at the point where I really want the Labour party to get their act together simply because the dangerous fundamentalists in the Green party are filling the electoral void where the Labour party used to be before they put the poofs in charge.

I have been sitting on this post all day and then I saw another press release from Gareth Hughes. In it he rejoices at the fact Petrobras have called off their deep sea exploration and then starts waffling about clean-tech jobs. Another non word that means absolutely nothing.

And then we see Russel Norman outlining his demands for coalition with Labour . Minister of finance no less.

This from a man who is yet to actually work in a job that was not  govt funded, who has no experience in anything other than being a professional harbinger of doom should any of us dare to drive a car or switch a light bulb on.

Moving down the ranks into the dregs of the Green Taliban we see Gareth Hughes lining himself up for Minister of Energy. Geothermal is okay apparently, blindly ignoring the fact that quite a lot of mining has to occur to create the infrastructure to build geothermal plants. But mining to create infrastructure is okay as long as no Kiwis get to earn a quid participating in mining. We should leave that to the Chinese, because of course even though they talk about a global climate problem it is okay as long as it is some other country doing the mining.

When are the media going to start calling out these twats for what they really are?

he is just as nutty as his australian counterpart Bob Brown. take a look at some of HIS nutty greeny socialist policies and you will be looking into the future of new zealands green policies.

HA! Green tech. What a crock of shit. There is no such thing. We can do things that create less impact on our surroundings, but usually this is misguided and the impact is just moved elsewhere (ethanol for example, great for the ozone, crap for the rain forests)

Rare earth metals (used in every electronic device). They require us to mine and they require us to be in bed with China, who has some of the largest rare earth metals deposits in the world. Greens hate both.

Tech also needs electricity. Something the Green party seem to hate and they only thing they hate more is nuclear, which ironically is one of the cleanest power sources in terms of volume of pollutants. Granted those pollutants are pretty nasty.

The Greens have a poorly thought out “shoot from the hip” approach to policy that don’t stack up. They seem to have a schizophrenianic utopia in mind that doesn’t even make sense.

The green party has turned into a neo-socilistic catch all for ideologic wankers. The party is not a cohesive unit, they don’t have a concise collective stance and none of them seem capable of understanding basic economics.

    • disqus_wMsITO4Q42

Rare earth metals – surely Green Taliban don’t use cell phones and TVs, do they?
Electricity – Russel probably still has gas mantles at home
Oil, cars – surely they don’t use mechanical (or parliamentary) transport, when they could just walk?
You could just keep going, it’s all a stupid facade and the sooner he buggers off back to Brisbane (birthplace) the better.

  • cows4me

Bet Hughes and the rest of his retarded mates are secretly spewing their ring gears out. Fancy fucken Petrobras not finding anything of value, must ruin their whole day. All that breast beating, wailing, crocodile tears, press releases, propaganda and publicity time dashed by some no good exploration company that couldn’t find a sniff of that nasty oil.

When are the media going to start calling out these twats for what they really are?

Don’t hold your breath. The Greens, like Dotcom are the darlings of the liberal elite in the media; they can do no wrong. Paddy Gower broke ranks last night, but will probably be told to get back into line by John Campbell.

But if the Greens ever want to get their sanctimonious fingers on the levers of power, then they have to get used to the idea of being under the microscope. They may not like it, but that’s the way it rolls.

  • Vlad

Gareth Hughes, apparently quoting the addle-headed and 2 years behind the curve Pure Advantage report, claims we have an economic opportunity exporting geothermal energy. What does he have in mind? Selling Rotorua to China? No, wait…… maybe not a bad idea.

  • Phar Lap

Just deport the bastard for economic treason. Why do we have to put up with such a sick ****.He and his gang of physcho grinches dont deserve house room.

    • Mediaan

I volunteer to hand him back his flag as he boards the plane.

  • Brian of Mt Wellington

Isn’t a green job growing hemp and the like. What the hell is wrong with that green mob. Could you imagine the mess if R Norman was Finance minister then the likes of Gareth Hughes. A boy in a mans job, give me a break, mind you Hughes could be minister of refreshments or similar not a real portfolio.

    • WayneO

Gareth Hughes couldn’t even be trusted with someone’s hamburger order.

  • WayneO

The green taliban are frightening to anyone on the political right of them. Shane Jones has called it and there must be many in Labour feeling the same. If they get anywhere near the seat of power in 2014 we are headed for economic meltdown.

About time somebody started suggesting Labour as a junior coalition partner for National. Time for these idealistic watermelon muppets to fade into insignificance.

A ‘green’ job is a soft well paid public sector (or possibly non-profit organization such as Greenpeace or F&B) job which appeals to those with sociology or other soft qualifications. The job involves telling ‘Other People’ where to live, what to do, etc, etc and has very little ‘accountability’. ‘Accountability’ is for ‘Other People’ who have *real* jobs including doctors, police officers, etc (but excluding midwives). It is possible to create an unlimited number of such jobs if one assumes that money grows on trees and that the goose has an infinite number of golden eggs inside. I hope this clarifies the matter.

  • chattering_pie

“Green Taliban”. Whoever wrote this couldn’t come up with a more original smear. They’re all pot smokers too, who hate miners and want everyone to convert to composting toilets.

Get a friggen grip. I want you to go out and wade around in any NZ river. Full of shit? Just like you. Them dairy farms are anything you need to smell to realize what’s happening to us. Sold out to China for melamine-tainted milk powders.

What I’m writing seems disjointed and not to any kind of point because what kind of point are you making? Precisely none. I’m just giving you shit on the other side of the spectrum. But I will make one point. We need to put some brains and honesty and foresight for the future- a future that’s not sold shat on or poisoned- or else we’d be fkd like the rest of the planet because we like our slumber too much.

    • M3N78L

Hmmmmm. In order to be taken seriously (at least around here) you generally have to make sense.

      • chattering_pie

I can’t make sense when this doesn’t make sense? Ponce.

        • M3N78L

Lowering yourself to name calling. How very grown up. Ponce? oh dear.
I am mortally wounded. I think you’ll find that most commentators on this site have a better idea of how politics and econonics works than your average green/labour voter. Chant some more slogans please! Some more name calling too! Yay for you…

          • chattering_pie

No, I don’t really want to call names. But I did kind of sniff out a sort of… poncey tone… that may be name calling in itself? yay for you? It sort of sounds like something I used to hear when people got too excited during school sports day. Mortally Wounded!

I except to be taught such a lot. But in my spare time I will make pickets and protest and go on strike.

          • M3N78L

it always amazes me how the left think they are so intelectually and morally superior. Chanting their little slogans, calling peple names because their views differ, and making very little sense in the process. Chattering pie? at least your name suits.Goodbye pork pie.

          • chattering_pie

“intelectually” how can we work together. The left and the right?

    • http://www.facebook.com/euan.rosstaylor Euan Ross-Taylor

I suggest it might be a good idea to keep off the keyboard while you’re under the influence.

      • chattering_pie

        Ponce.

      • chattering_pie

        Who cares?

        • chattering_pie

One might well be drunk of an evening. The average person drinks themselves into oblivion because of what’s happening. You get the high ground of despising people who’ve no other way to speak and feel angry but you DO get to ignore how people feel. Forget politics. What do we really want?

    • Goldie

chattering_pie is one of the more articulate members of the Green Party.

      • Guest

Which is no compliment to the Green Party.

        • chattering_pie

Is no compliment to any party.

      • chattering_pie

Any member of any party is a snob.

    • Mediaan

I’m all for brains and honesty and foresight. Let’s hope there is enough of these around.

As you say, there are environmental problems needing solving. But not sure exactly what you are telling us to do.

      • chattering_pie

I’ve no idea actually… what can be done. I’m no scientist. But surely we have to get together- all the brains that HAVE an idea- see what is to be done? The lifestyle of the average person is not sustainable but can you work your big fat minds to help it become so? Instead of shitting on green jobs.

  • MarcWills

Green jobs are what you promise to provide for 150,000 gullible voters without providing any tangible realistic evidence in order to claim the baubles of power.

Geothermal power on the other hand, is a realistic and unlimited source of energy which is available, and without “any” possible effects from pollution, and which is facilitated by a process known as fracking to extract the superheated steam from deep within the volcanic mantle… oh, wait, did I mention the fracking?

  • davidp

The Obama Administration defines “green job” quite widely…

  • Goldie

What is amusing (if it wasn’t so tragic) is that the two technologies that have been proven to be immensely beneficial to the environment – nuclear power (zero emissions) and genetic modification (reduced need for pesticides, so insect and birdlife is much greater in GM cropped areas than non-GM cropped areas) – are hated by the Greens.
The Greens do not give a fig about the environment – they are dangerous utopians.

    • Hard1

The word is that the RNA coding that causes corn to produce it’s own insecticide may cause humans to do likewise , producing insecticide in our bodies .

      • Goldie

The Starlink controversy (which I believe you refer to) was an invented controversy – it turned out the modified Bt in Starlink corn contained absolutely no allergens at all. Starlink is a good example of how the Green movement manufactures hysteria.

      • RockyFist

WTF are you talking about? Do you even know what RNA is? Do you know how many genes are required to make all of the different enzymes that are require to generate an insecticide type compound in a plant? Most of these genes/proteins are not found in humans; and if they are they are usually dissimilar enough to actually perform another function. The comment that you have just made is so full of shit and is an example of typical Green verbal discharge often associated with an STD such as Gonorrhea.

      • http://www.whaleoil.co.nz Whaleoil

Fucking brilliant, no more moxie bites, which also means no more malaria…and you oppose this? What are you anti human?

        • Hard1

Monsanto cannot be trusted , not since Vietnam , where our troops were exposed to agent orange that was ‘safe’ . Darryl , Les , my friends are still suffering , including children with birth defects . Our Boys , Cameron , still getting fucked over by the carnivorous lie machine that is Monsanto . Don’t fall for it .

          • Honcho

Linking the chemical company who made the defoliant to the people who used it on their own troops (and civilian population to this day) is incredibly weak.

Monsanto didnt approach the US department of defence to produce the defoliant, the opposite was the case.
By your reasoning Dowagro sciences in little ol’ New Zealand is just as guilty, and should be shut down immediately which im sure will piss agricultural NZ off no end. Dont get me wrong they are no angels, but as they manufactured the chemicals 40+ years ago I feel its safe to say not only the people who authorised it, but the people who made it are well retired and out of the industry by now.

Monsanto didnt disperse the defoliant over forested areas suspected of harbouring vietcong forces, the US military did in response to a need to help balance the advantages the vietcong had fighting US and Allied troops in these forests areas, had the senior officers in the US military known what we know now I would hope to think they would have operated with stronger ethics and a bit more restraint, but dont forget for a second that they were responding to a need to protect their troops, which not knowing the all facts could well be seen as a noble endeavour.

          • Hard1

Monsanto said it was SAFE . Monsanto now is responsible for Monsanto then , as a Government NOW is responsible for Government THEN .
Think another case , Bhopal , to see how weasily these companies can be .

      • Salacious T Crumb

“the word is”….hardly irrefutable scientific evidence is it? That’s the problem with the Green movement. Half truths, outright lies and willfull ignorance of science suffice to support their cause.

        • Hard1

The thalidomide scandal began the same way . Denial , reassurance , weak early research , more denial , rubbishing of research highlighting the danger . It’s a familiar pattern . If you want to eat mutant corn , go ahead . Mutant animals are next .

          • parorchestia

No it didn’t. It was a genuine mistake not to test it on pregnant females mice (ooh, poor micies – should use nasty humans instead). All mouse tests at that time used non-pregnant individuals. Once the truth was known, its use on pregnant females ceased very quickly. But it is still used extensively in medicine because it is otherwise quite safe and very useful. Twit, get your facts correct. And GM (mutants) individuals occur naturally all the time – someone might know the figure better than me, but aren’t there something like 10^23 horizontal exchanges per annum? We would do only a tiny fraction of this amount and ours would be directed and tested.

      • parorchestia

If that were dangerous it would have shown its deleterious effects already through horizontal transmission of genes. We have bacterial genes and they have ours. What fun, and how harmless. GM is doping nothing unnatural – it is just we control it rather than leaving it to blind chance.

    • SJ00

No where in NZ legislation does it say we can’t have a nuclear plant built here… we have a ban on nuclear weapons/ships entering the country, but technically there is no reason someone couldn’t try to build a plant (they may run into resource consent mind you).

  • Mediaan

Plastic water containers, light and flexible and non-breakable, available cheaply second-hand, are a big help to poor African women and children. Daily they have to walk long distances carrying water.
