This is a classic example of the causation not correlation debate right there. 

Redditor Jasonp55 has a neat demonstration of the perils of confusing correlation with causation, and his well-chosen example makes this a potentially useful chart for discussing this issue with friends who won’t vaccinate themselves and their kids.

    I’d be more inclined to look at it the other way around – autism diagnosis and awareness driving organic food sales. Linking autism to the pesticides and other chemicals in vegetables is pretty common on health websites, as is recommending organic food to counter it.

    We’ll know in 50 years when these trendlines play out.

    Actually if you overlay the graph of the increase in waleoil blog readership it would show that reading whaleoil causes autism. Or perhaps you need to be autistic to read whaleoil

    When I was at school there was always one handicapped kid, one with autism or something, one or two fats kids and that’s about all. Now, every second kid seems to have something wrong with them. Autism, ADHD, gluten / lactose / or something intolerant, anger issues or obesity, just to mention a few.

      The gene pool is progressively becoming diluted . As the only species to allow and promote survival of the unfittest , humans are on track to become continuously ill. Who hasn’t seen a doctor in the past year ?

        What do you expect with all the broken homes & Mums that breed with every fella that looks sideways at them? At some stage one of those kids is going to breed with their own family – law of averages says it has to be.

      I was disgusted when I read that article, what the hell did they expect to happen? these sorts of people are the reason measles has been on the rise, a disease that need not exist in a first world country, for what they needlessly put their child through they should be charged with child abuse.

          Let me explain because I suspect you missed the implied sarcasm…as far as I am concerned if you and your kids fucking well die because of your fucking stupidity the rest of the worlds gene pool will be that much better off because it’s a known fact that congenital stupidity is inherited from your parents!

            Scheesh, calm down. I did get the sarcasm, but I think you missed the point. If you think that vaccinations protect you from disease, I think you should check the facts, because you may end up, well, sick. It would be stupid to believe all the non-validated propaganda your doc tells you whithout actually studying the literature wouldn’t it? I agree, health is important, I think everyone should make informed deicsions, have you? Do you know the success/cover rate of NZ’s vac programme? Do you know why Japan banned the MMR? Do you know how much $$$ ACC (read NZ taxpayer) pays out for botched vaccinations? Did the MeNZB work or did it fail? Do you even know how to improve your immune system? Didn’t think so.
