Has Labour’s immigration clock stopped, or does it now need to wind itself backwards

David Shearer and Labour have been milking the fact that heaps of Kiwis have been leaving for Australia.  Shearer even did a stunt at Westpac stadium.

Looks like they’ll have to wind the clock back after the latest stats…

The number of New Zealanders moving to Australia hit a two-year low last month, Statistics New Zealand says.

Overall net migration for the month of January was 400, meaning New Zealand had more arrivals than departures.

Fewer people also departed across the Tasman during the month, with the seasonally adjusted net loss to Australia dropping to 2600, the smallest net loss since February 2011.

January’s movements also arrested a run of annual migration losses since October 2011. Arrivals and departures completely cancelled out each other, giving a zero net-migration gain.

The annual net loss of migrants to Australia in January was 37,900, down from a record 40,000 in August.

Once again Labour’s cunning stunts have backfired…the housing crisis in Christchurch that wasn’t, the manufacturing crisis that wasn’t and now the immigration crisis that isn’t really.

  • Never in the dark…..

Under a Labour (/Greens) government, we’d also be on one of those planes.

When inconvenient truth’s don’t fit the propaganda you’re trying to spin – invent a “crisis” and have all the unions and all the enimies of my enimie to help support these new invented “crisis’s”
Trouble for Shearer / Labour is now the green headed quad of the 4 headed taniwha is now publicly saying there is no “jobs/mining crisis” at all – it’s just a lack of imagination by everyone on the Coast…
Who would have thought camelians could be so slimey?

      Probably it’s a karma chameleon

        lol…sarky bugger

Its worthwhile remembering that in the main, its our worst and dumbest that head for Australia, since that’s the only country they can get into without having some specialist education or skill. These are people that would traditionally vote for Labour since they are unskilled. Labours utterances around “crisis” are purely protective, given that immigration will more than likely reduce their voter base.
So to see them coming back is a bit distressing!

      Bloody good point IVV…

No the worst are in prison, or are career criminals and the dumbest are on a benefit. Australia wants none of them and actively discourages them.

So, Shearer’s little stunt said that 50,000 kiwis were leaving to Australia, yet according to the NZ Herald 40,000 is the record level. Hmmm, do we believe that Shearer was slightly (25%) increasing the statistics (or ignoring the truth), or do we think that the NZ Herald is cocking it’s figures up. Both are equally likely.

    • Hazards001

Well it’s a statistical fact the 58.4% of quoted statistics are in fact bullshit.

Can we graph the poll ratings of the various political parties against the net migration rates for the last 5 years or so? Might not be causal but could be fun?

    • blokeintakapuna

I’d like to see how many millions the unions received under a Labour government compared to a National government…
I bet if these figures were ever to be known publicly… the AG would probably be right onto the SFO hotline..
There’s just too much smoke – on both sides of the ditch – with unions usual modus operandi…
