Pistorius crushed girlfriend’s skull with cricket bat – Police

Just as well there isn’t a jury trial in South Africa, because I don’t think they’d be able to find 12 untainted jurors in the world, let alone South Africa.

The Daily Mail reports

article-2283507-183A4819000005DC-40_306x423Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius crushed his girlfriend’s skull with a cricket bat before shooting her dead, police have told her family.

Details of the post-mortem examination of South African model Reeva Steenkamp were withheld from last week’s bail application hearing.

But grieving relatives who saw her body before Tuesday’s cremation in Port Elizabeth described horrific injuries from the cricket bat, and entry wounds from 9mm bullets fired by Pistorius.

They were also briefed about the model’s death by police and lawyers from the state prosecutor’s office.

He beat her to an inch of her life, then as she tried to hide in the bathroom, he unloaded some bullets into her.

What a piece of scum.

So… what sort of sentence can he expect to receive in SA?

    • PlanetOrphan

      18 – 20 Years for murder

      • http://twitter.com/kapanol Daniel

The punishment is not the prison sentence itself – it is what happens to you in prison…

        • PlanetOrphan

Going around in circles on that one bud.

        • Patrick

SA prisons are notorious for male rapes (especially for whitey) & HIV is the ever present end result.
Some years ago I was warned to never drink & drive in SA as a night in the cells could be a death sentence.

    roid rage maybe?

The Telegraph has a different version of the cricket bat:

    http://tinyurl.com/ank8jdu

“He did not describe Miss Steenkamp’s injuries further. Police on Sunday denied
reports that Pistorius used a cricket bat found at his house to assault his
    girlfriend before shooting her.

Mr Myers, who identified Miss Steenkamp’s body, told the Daily Telegraph that
he was “surprised” by reports that she had been assaulted with a
    cricket bat.

“When I identified Reeva, I saw no indication of that”, he said. “The
first I knew about it was when I read it in the papers. I do not know where
    that came from”.

No such evidence was entered by the prosecution during pre-trial proceedings
to decide if Pistorius would be granted bail, even though it would likely
    have affected the magistrate’s ruling.”

No worries. I can assure you he wasn’t thrilled. But then we’re all holding down full time jobs and sometimes pushing material out on WOBH is done in a real rush.

This month has been a lot of hard work, but it’s paying off. The blog audience is growing.

I don’t believe that the cricket bat was used on the girlfriend.

The prosecution would have brought it up during the bail hearing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000191050297 Jon Kim

Wrong. Neither side has any obligation to mention evidence before trial. Pistorius probably lied to his lawyers & his lawyers had no clue about the post-mortem condition of her body. Defense are not that smart! They also did not know that a dead body almost immediately releases bladder & bowels. Empty bladder info is 100% irrelevant to this case. Withholding the “crushed skull” was intentional by prosecution. Defense had to babble to get bail & in turn, they dug their partial grave.

    • Morrissey

I think the bat was used on a colored servant shortly before the accidental shooting of the girlfriend.

No, is it ? But the online version of China’s Communist Party newspaper has hailed a report by The Onion naming North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un as the “Sexiest Man Alive”.

“We are acutely aware this is only the beginning of a long road to prove Oscar never intended to harm Reeva, let alone cause her death.”

    Enough of the semantics.

The defence argument seems inextricably tied to this idea that ‘Oscar didn’t intend to harm, Reeva, therefore he is not guilty of murder’.

He knew someone was in the toilet. That fits the definition of ‘premeditated murder’ as far as the law is concerned – not one, but four, deliberate shots into a toilet cubicle that you know a ‘human’ is inside.

It’s irrelevant to the police case that it was Reeva or Johnny Be Good (no disrespect meant). Oscar’s intent was premeditated because he armed himself, approached and then fired repeatedly and deliberately. It is entirely his own fault he didn’t check first, so accident it can not be. Oscar made a big mistake, and must take responsibility. I don’t think he has, hence his defence.

As written by PWJ in SA Newspaper.

    • Callum

Which ignores any (potentially legitimiate, especially in SA) claim of self defence, firing though a door at a likely armed intruder in your highly secured home could easily be pre-emptive to safe your own life. This whole story is a waste of time and pure conjecture until all the evidence is presented and we have definitely not seen all the evidence yet.

    • unsol

      I agree.

And I really cant see how they can possibly prove he didnt intend to harm her – gun holster on her side of the bed & she was in the bathroom…..where she probably barricaded herself to try & escape his rage.

Not to mention the trajectory of the bullets,,,

  • Hazards001

Well…you’d have to wonder why a cheating bastard like that owned a cricket bat in the first place..unfair advantage…not as if he’s ever gonna be LBW..fucking legs are thinner than the damn wicket!

  • Morrissey
