HMAS Bathurst, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north east of Christmas Island overnight.

Initial indications suggest there are 60 people on board. 

3 February 2013

HMAS Maryborough, operating under the coordination of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia), has rendered assistance to a suspected irregular entry vessel that sought assistance north west of Christmas Island today.

Initial indications suggest there are 132 passengers and three crew on board.

ACV Storm Bay, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel south-west of Scott Reef last night.

Initial indications suggest there are 53 passengers and two crew on board.

      Probably because Indonesia has 6 times as many personnel in their armed forces, and 13 times the manpower available to their armed forces.

        And Aussie has F/A-18s on alert in RAAF Williamstown, which is all of two hours away from ANSTO Lucas Heights. Your point is?

        Let’s put it another way: Aussie could render Beijing uninhabitable long before the PLAN gets to Darwin, let alone Brisbane. I don’t think Indonesia will pose much of the problem to the RAAF.

          How would Australia make Beijing uninhabitable SD? Fortress Australia is an expensive myth.

          I believe Indonesia has a mixture of F16′s, Su-27′s and Su-30′s. And the Flankers are a match for the F18′s. If so, sort of even’s out with the RAAF? And given that just last year, the Indonesians were flying in Exercise Pitch Black in the Northern Territory with the Aussies, I’d imagine they have a pretty good idea how things would go.

            Having operated alongside our Indonesian “friends” of the TNI-AU in the past I’d think they would need serious luck, and Allahs’ intervention to beat off the RAAF. It’s all very well having hi tech inventory but the locals can’t operate them too well without the help of the “advisers”(read Russian company tech) support.

    Turn the boats around and send them back. You see refugee camps on TV as more people spill into them – then the standard of living in those camps gets worse and worse. With overcrowding comes health and social issues. The more refugees NZ takes the more our country becomes like a refugee camp

    the Malaysian Solution Labor proposed would have fixed the problem,but the NLP opposed it as a political strategy .Abbott is an ambitious drop kick.

        Their proposal was to put back in place the measures John Howard had used. John Howard of the Liberal Party was very successful at stopping the economic migrants, Labour shouted from the sidelines & then when they gained power they cancelled Howards solution. Within a very short timeframe the boat loads started arriving & haven’t stopped since. In desperation Gillard tried to re-employ Howards methods & Abbott called her out for what she is. He did not exactly oppose her measures – he wanted her to admit she had been wrong & was putting back in place most of the LP measures. Gillard refused to admit this was the case. If you spend a few minutes comparing what the Liberal Party was doing under Howard & what Gillard has now put in place they are very similar. Typical Pollie refused to admit she was wrong.

          Patrick doesn’t know what he is talking about.Labors proposal was to accept genuine,documented refugees in exchange for sending ‘new arrivals’ to Malaysia…where they would be at the back of the queue for processing…i.e living in tents awaiting for the very long ,uncomfortable Malaysian processing procedure.In other words a powerful disincentive for boat people.

Instead of a detention camp, with guards and barb wire, we will put them up, in what they consider, a 5 start holiday accommodation and give them some spending money. All they have to do is play stupid and ignorant and refuse to sign anything,

    It’s actually a little cunning of John Key, the other side of this deal is that any boat-people arriving direct here in NZ, if any boats ever make it, will go straight to the Aus. detention camps rather than auto entry into NZ as they currently would get.

    And frankly you can see his point. As I keep saying: any real reform in NZ will be followed instantly by Australia closing NZ’s visa-free entry. But I think Tony Abbot’s government will see that end pretty damn quick anyway. Good thing too.

    I believe that due to prevailing currents the crappy boats used by the Islamic virus people are unlikely to reach NZ and more likely they will be eliminated by the Pacific Ocean as they are swept North. The UN Refugee Agency is dominated by the Islamic countries. One of the first rules of Islam is to spread itself. The UN is the vector by which the Islamic Virus is spread. I am happy to take real refugees but Muslims are economic migrants infected by their death cult. John Key has screwed up. Where is Winston on this?
