    I think the modern equivalent of the street corner might be TV. The amount of cash you have to rake in in order to get on TV is obscene.

    On America’s Cup, I don’t know if it counts not being annual? Maybe. There’s golf and football that have had annual cups since um 1870ish. And the ol Scorton Silver Arrow thing awarded in archery has been up for grabs annually since 1673.

      In that case, do the olympics count? Of course they do.

      What matters is that the tournament is active and hosts the best players of their sport.

      Being yearly is optional, and i’d argue that a trophy that can only be won once in 4 years is more meaningful than an annual trophy.
