Is Silent T trying to be cute over his missus?

I know & agree family shouldn’t be bought onto the political radar, but I wonder about the real motives of David Cunliffe’s efforts to exclude his family and that of Grant Robertson from political discussion?

John Key, Obama, Mandela, Cameron, Blair etc etc all rolled out their families as part of their campaigns…..

Upon hearing that Silent T’s wife was an environmental lawyer, I thought, surely a friend of the greens and as an asset to the Silent T in his quest for power.  Especially he has promised vast subsidies for green friendly companies.

I then looked at her profile, and came to the conclusion that she is no friend of the Greens at all.

Far from being a long–haired, smelly hippie lawyer fighting the man for the environment. She is the opposite – the corporate gun-slinger who helps big business, mine, dig, and sell. Her client list includes:

  • Mighty River Power
  • The New Zealand Refining Company (Big Oil)
  • Gasbridge Limited a joint venture between Contact Energy and Genesis Energy
  • Lead Counsel for Fonterra’s coal-fired cogeneration plant at Whareroa
  • WEL Energy, Vector
  • SCA Hygiene Australasia’s pulp and tissue manufacturing
  • Counsel for three telecommunications operators (Telecom, Vodafone and TelstraClear) in relation to national cellsite network rollout strategy
  • Alinta Energy
  • Carter Holt Harvey
  • Advising Transit New Zealand in respect of its designations for the Albany to Puhoi Realignment (Which Labour opposes)
  • Advising Waste Management Inc and a New Zealand landfill owner
  • Advising Seafield Limited, a joint venture of de Beers and Oppenheimer interests, on an innovative off-shore minerals prospecting application and gaining consents (Labour and the Greens oppose this activity)
  • Oceana Gold (Mining)
  • Acting for gas and oil exploration companies in Taranaki
  • Acting for overseas investors such as AMP, Westpac, Summerset Retirement Villages, Weyehaeuser Forests, Contact Energy, TrustPower and Hexion in respect of NZ’s overseas investment regime (Labour opposes overseas investment)
  • Acting for a petrochemical retailer on green and brown field site contamination issues

Surely, when the Greens discover this and raise questions about how they can work with Silent T.

The Greens will no doubt want a high price for their support of a Green/Labour government, and that support will likely include “no new anything, anywhere, anyhow”.

So while rooting the economy as PM, the Silent T’s wife will be rooting the corporate world fighting her husband’s government policy.

How could either of them lie straight in bed ?  Is there a perceived conflict of interest here ?

  • mike

No, because Cunny doesn’t really believe in what he’s spouting… he just wants the job and will say anything to get it.

Be PM for a few years and then a cushy diplomatic post that’s his future ambition.

    • opusx

Gravy training for the sack of it just pisses me off. Tell me that’s not exactly what this smug little prick is doing? I watched his speech to his loyal gathering, and from his body language he has no interest in them…it’s now all about feathering his nest.

      • http://manymonkeys.co.nz/ Hamilton Lad

Always was. Right from the time he entered politics.

        • Agent BallSack

Yup Laws has his measure. Not a direct quote but he always wanted to be PM regardless of how he gets there.

    • AnonWgtn

Sounds though she has better credential than her husband to lead any party.

  • Orange

“So while rooting the economy as PM, the Silent T’s wife will be rooting for
the corporate world fighting her husband’s government policy.”

Well I’d vote for her I guess.

  • CheesyEarWax

What we want to know is , does he call her a rich prick or a rich Cun*liffe?

  • Col

So nobby Norman won’t be holding hands with silent T.

    • Agent BallSack

Sanctimony has no limits so don’t count on it.

  • http://manymonkeys.co.nz/ Hamilton Lad

So she consults to Telecom and is married to the guy that stripped billions off its value – a cost borne by all New Zealanders through their exposure to the Super fund, ACC etc etc.
Just another reason why I regard this man as the biggest hypocrite I have ever had the misfortune to meet!

    • Col

I assume that’s why she is happy to keep her own name, don’t blame her.

  • opusx

It’s called having different interests. But a politician and a lawyer in the same house…reminds me of a joke:

A teacher, a politician and a lawyer all died and went to heaven. St. Peter was in a bad mood because there were too many people in heaven and he wanted to make it more difficult to enter. When they got to the gate, St. Peter told them that they had to pass a test before they could to get into Heaven: they all had to answer one question.

St Peter turned to the teacher and said, “What was the name of the ship that hit the iceberg and sank with all its passengers?”

The teacher thought for a moment and then replied:” I think it was the Titanic”. St. Peter let him through the gate.

He didn’t like politicians so he decided to ask a more difficult question, St. Peter turned to the politician, and asked “How many people died on the ship?”

The politician was very lucky because he had read a book about the Titanic. He said “1228”. This is correct so St. Peter let him through the gate.

St. Peter turned to the Lawyer and asked “What were their names?”

  • williamabong

She looks to be very comfortable in with all the rich pricks, poor old Cuntlips may struggle to live this one down, nothing disinfects like good old sunlight.

    • Hazards001

Poor old Cuntlips doesn’t own a house in Herne bay because he is the successful breadwinner in his household!
If he was living where he should be it would be in his electorate of Grey Lynn.

      The smug little shit!

  • johnbronkhorst

Wonder what the “asset sales” arguments are like in their house? (considering Mighty river power).

    • Agent BallSack

They both get a cut no matter what so I guess it’s pretty convivial.

  • maninblack

well in looking at this- she might whisper in his ear at night, and it might slop him from wreaking the economy completely…

  • kevin

She appears to be a real go getter, d.cunliffe might be feeling upstaged…

    • johnbronkhorst

and under paid…..bet she earns way more than him!!!

      • blokeintakapuna

Yeah… But she could get laid way more than he could…

        • Hazards001

That doesn’t prove anything…my ex wife the bush pig gets laid more than me…the fact that she knows where the dero bars are and the right time to find the most pissed male has nothing to do with it! Or so she sez….

  • blokeintakapuna

Cavorting with the enemy? Who’s employer would give who the biggest kick for “giving comfort” to the sworn enemy?

  • anonymouse

Oh, and in case someone claims, “she just works there” and she is not responsible for the work they allocate her, She owns half the company

    • opusx

To be honest, looking at her profile…WTF is she married to a total tool like Cunners for…I mean seriously…why???

      • Agent BallSack

As Michael Laws said in his column the other day they married VERY young.

        • opusx

Well I guess I have to say I respect that they have stuck together while clearly heading in two very different paths. But…yeah, na….he’s still one of the biggest tools out there.

  • jcpry

Perhaps the left will be interested in the Directorship particularly this one -Director, the New Zealand Carbon Exchange. http://www.nzcx.com/

  • Agent BallSack

Holy shit no wonder he doesnt want anything known about her. Shes a real fucking rich prick.

  • Mark

Based on this information I like her!

  • Agent BallSack

DIG! MINE! SELL! Oops wrong party. No wonder he’s called Silent T. Anytime he opens his mouth something hypocritical falls out and he’s learned its better to shut the fuck up than be caught out.

  • Agent BallSack

Awesome material for The Huddle Cam.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Greens are shameless. They will sell their souls to be in power. Norman is so desperate to travel in the crown limo, he will crawl, cry and beg for a ministerial post.

    • opusx

Yeah…you are so right, what’s up with that?

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

I am always right opusx bro! I represent the Joe Blogg on struggle street.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

I am sure MSM will rigorously research this…yeah right…

  • BJ

‘How could either of them lie straight in bed ? Is there a perceived conflict of interest here ?’

You betcha. How can they possibly share the same bed?

  • Realist

Haha, holy shit. You guys actually have no idea how the world really works, do you? Or do you assume all lawyers are corporate lapdogs?

Hint – there’s a reason she’s got to where she is, and it’s not for bending over backwards for the big boys.

    • Hazards001

      awesome

    • Mr Sackunkrak

Lol, you’ve never lived in the land of six minute billing units, oh, and there is no code on time-sheets for “I went for a shit”. It goes on someone’s invoice.

      • Sarrs

You’re dead right…they only way to the top is bill your way there. No one gets made partner or principle by smiling politely at a protest against big business.

  • billid

Silent t – good one – hopefully he out t’s your one and f’s you over

    • Hazards001

      and you

      • opusx

Why is it most of the trolls seem to wait till we’ve done the topic to death before they post? I have perused some older posts that no one’s commented on for ages…and wouldn’t ya know, it some plonker goes on there all brave and confrontational knowing full well it’s unlikely regular readers will go back. And they always seem to be a stand alone post, not in reply to a comment so it shows in your disqus account.

        • Hazards001

Like most spineless people, particularly men (I’m a man..my experience is women are more than happy for a confrontation lol) they are afraid of the actual confrontation but feel the need to have a say.

These are exactly the same type of people that will vandalise your car or tag your fence but wont come and confront you on an issue face to face as their courage and moral fibre is lacking if not non existent.

          • opusx

Like the comment from ‘realist’ above. From what I’ve read in this topic the general consensus is respect for Karen. I think she’s attractive, intelligent, and hard working. Everything her husband ain’t.

I don’t see any comments saying she screwed her way to the top. I just can’t for the life of me get my head around why she is still married to such a self centered hypocrite???

          • Hazards001

Yes, I noticed the same omissions. The truth is the real people on here don’t attempt to down grade people of talent but tend to notice and admire them. As most of the comments around Cunliffes wife seem to do in this post.
None seem denigrating to her..on the other hand he is getting smacked around as the useless trougher he is.
I don’t know why either..and to be fair I don’t really care. I’ve never understood a lot of the top women I have known in my own life and the sacks of shit they go out with never mind trying to fathom women I don’t know.

        • Mr Sackunkrak

They are like my ex, always wanting to have the last word. Going back a few days later guarantees it. I suppose it makes them feel better about their miserable lives.

  • Bruno 32

hilarious..no wonder he keeps the T silent.

  • BR

Someone’s doing very nicely out of the climate change fraud.

    Bill.

  • sarah

This would explain his spouting about carbon credits blah blah blah seems like wifie already has an influence

  • philbest

I am sorry I have come so late to this discussion. I think a lot of the commenters here are misreading the “interests” of a “corporate lawyer”.

“Corporate lawyers” may well be in favour of the maximum possible amount of regulation and process imposed on corporations, because it keeps them busy and well paid. In fact the legal profession as a whole is notorious for this; it matters little who they end up working for. The parasitical nature of their existence is the same regardless.

I strongly suspect that lawyers who represent the citizen or the business against the regulators and planners, do not even ethically attempt to win the case quickly and cleanly on behalf of their client. I certainly believe this is going on in the area of property development and RMA law. A layman like me can read up the relevant Act sections and say, “WTF is our b—–y lawyer PLAYING at…..!!! Is he a drinking buddy of the Council planners or something????”

Russell Bartlett is the only one so far that I have heard of, that the Councils are genuinely afraid of.
