BREAKING: EY “Pants Down Brown Report” expected soon

Just had word things are heating up in the Mayor’s Office…  more details as they come out.

Bernard at the Herald is running damage control

Auckland Council chief executive Doug McKay is expected to release the long-awaited report into any use of council resources by Mayor Len Brown during his affair with Bevan Chuang at 2pm today.

The report is believed to clear Mr Brown of any wrongdoing, but contains other embarrassing findings.

There has been widespread speculation this week that the use of hotel rooms by Mr Brown outside the times he booked hotels for sex with Ms Chuang has been uncovered by Ernst & Young, who spent seven weeks probing the behaviour of Mr Brown.

  • Bart67

I doubt there is enough whitewash!

  • Magoo

If the council can’t fire him they can call another election I suppose.

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

Nothing is going to happen and he will be the mayor until the next election.

      • Magoo

Unfortunately I think you’re right SCS.

      • toryboy

Inclined to agree with you; how awful democracy is at times.

  • Chancey

embarrassing findings embarrass auckland, and new zealand, stand down len brown you piece of filth

  • Kimbo

“The report is believed to clear Mr Brown of any wrongdoing, but contains other embarrassing findings.”

Doesn’t make sense. Accountants report on financial facts, not passing moral or political judgements (others draw those from the aforementioned facts).

    • Martin

Exactly Kimbo. Spot on. I suspect there to be accounting findings which indicate corruption.

      • andrew carrot

    • rrroberto

Maybe the terms of reference are so narrow that they are only reporting on “wrongs” in the sense of accounting irregularities, or breaches of the law. Not on any breaches of council codes of conduct (outside the terms of reference) If that is the case, then there needs to be two upstanding councilors to put forward a motion of no confidence in the Mayor, on account of his breeches of codes of conduct, and bringing the office of the Mayor, and by extension, the city of Auckland, into disrepute. Pantsdown Brown may have the numbers, but each and every councilor will be publicly forced to nail their colours to his mast and signify tacit acceptance of the Brown standard …..or not

      • Kimbo

        Hmmm.

Then that wouldn’t be sufficient to force him out.

The difference between Watergate and Monica Lewinsky-gate is that in one there was a ‘smoking gun’ that pushed it over the line into an illegality (obstruction of justice – Nixon ordering his men to obfuscate with the CIA to stop an FBI investigation). Everyone KNOWS Clinton used his Presidential power to try and shut down the Lewinsky matter, but no smoking gun = insufficient proof to delouse the corrupt politician.

And as with Nixon and Clinton, Brown has a similar “Messiah-complex”, so it will be impossible to shame him from office.

I don’t make the rules, I just report them.

        • rrroberto

No it wouldn’t force him out if his numbers held, but it woulkd force those councilors to be associated with him in this sorry affair.. unless one or two broke ranks.. and then..
What would be the situation if a majority of councilors voted in favour of a no confidence motion? Assuming that this is what Rudman was on about, so what, he does not “need” the confidence of the council?

          • Kimbo

            Correct.

Brown stays. Seems little way to “impeach” him (for want of a better term).

            A ridiculous situation.

Unless Rudman was also running interference…

Any constitutional lawyers in the house who can shed light?

          • Martin

If he was taking freebies from Skycity and has voted for them, which he has and he didnt declare these freebies there would be sufficient evidence for the police to start a corruption investigation.
            That can get him removed

          • rrroberto

Some sort of Citizens Initiated Local Government referendum?

          • Kimbo

            “Wrist – meet wet noodle”.

Sorry, buddy. Leave that sort of wanky ineffective politics to the Greens

      • http://manymonkeys.co.nz/ Hamilton Lad

” … on account of his breeches …”
Fruedian slip. LOL. (Suspect you meant breaches but I prefer what you have written.)

        • rrroberto

Yes , if only he could keep his breeches on when he went to work,Auckland would surely have become a SuperCity, the most liveable City in the world, with a train loop to prove it. But no, he kept dropping his breeches, at work, and the once proud City of Auckland has become brown cumstain blot.

    • Bunswalla

The report wasn’t compiled by accountants – not everyone that works at EY is a bean-counter, and I highly doubt it has any sections headed “Other Embarrassing Findings”. It will contain findings that will prove embarrassing for Brown.

      • Kimbo

        Fair enough.

Argue it with the Herald who described it as such…

  • Martin

Surely if its found hes being getting free rooms from Skycity and made a big decision to support Skycity against the majority of the Council he should be investigated by the police for corruption under the Crimes Act without delay.

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10893526

    • Chancey

no he has already let us know the law doesn’t apply to him

      • Martin

Well see what the police think about that

        • andrew carrot

How does Bernard Orsman know the details before the release of the report by the CEO?

          • terrynaki

            BULLSHIT,CORRUPTION I would say

          • andrew carrot

Maybe he’s just accepting the word of Len’s spin team, until he gets around to reading the report in the New Year, about June I’d say?

          • Dr Wang

He was reading Len’s copy (over his shoulder) while he was….well I don’t need to go on do I?

  • Lux

Paging Euan, you owe GregM a beer !!

  • toryboy

A whitewash report which Brown helped write himself and exonerates Brown? just as I predicted!
    What a crock! haha!

  • steve and monique

And still we wait for him to fuck off. Starting to think the buggers made of Teflon.

  • middleagedwhiteguy

Fran O’Sullivan is now saying on Facebook that she knows that Brown has had at least one freebee from a Hotel. She has this info from a source she describes as “Impeccable”.

If this is the case, then the only way that the report can clear Brown of wrongdoing is if they do not know about it.

    • Cancer Man

      link?

    • Reid

Was the source talking about the room or something else :)

  • dilligaf2013

So it’s OK to bonk an employee and get her a job amongst all the other slimey shit he’s done…..?
NZ’s entire Whitewash supply is now exhausted

    • phronesis

The report is still brown, they have in effect painted the rest of the country brown to match it, which is the real problem. We will be an international laughing stock.

  • Wine Man

I know this is off topic but……. on the 3 news website about Frankie Stevens stopping doing the Christmas in the Park Shows they quote….

“It’s just time, really, I think,” Stevens said on Firstline. “I’d like to maybe stand in the marquee one year with a glass of wine in my hand, and look at all these great young performers coming through, who are the future of music in New Zealand.”

Does he not realize the Auckland Council Nazi’s and the NZ Police have made it alcohol free?

    • Cancer Man

Corporates are still allowed alcohol hence the marquee.

      • Wine Man

of course sill me, because corporate entertaining never gets out of control or encourages the uncontrolled consumption of alcohol like those families sitting there enjoying a class of bubbles with their strawberries.

        • Pissedoffyouth

Christmas in the park always smells like weed whenever I go

          • GregM

Leave your weed at home then. :-)

          • Pissedoffyouth

            That explains it!

  • Reid

The Campbell Live studio is being prepared right now…

Hotel managers are being quizzed all over town as to how precisely they think it’s justifiable that private guest information could possibly be released ever let alone in this, clearly innocent case and what, exactly, do they have to say about that!

    • Cancer Man

Its a corporate conspiracy against an innocent man.

      • Reid

        Oh the humanity!

    • pukakidon

Get ready dirty devious Len Brown, Campbowl is getting ready to give you a good bum licking. That will ensure the staff of Campbell dead get tickets to the Council (Ratepayer) funded pissup in the park. Who said this country was not corrupt?

      What a joke

  • Harroputza

So the report is released after lunch on the second to last Friday before Christmas. Half the country will be down at the pub having a beer, the other half won’t be able to read it during lunch, it blows over on the weekend, and Monday Len’s back to work thinking we’ve all forgotten.

    • Reid

The journalists are going to find the worm has turned on this one. The news cycle doesn’t apply and it’s not going away.

It’ll be interesting to see how each of the usual suspects will try to spin it as such, but it won’t work and will only make more readers, listeners and viewers desert their employer. It’s a shame they’re not paid on commission, isn’t it.

    • Random66

That’s what the spin doctors will be hoping, but once again they under estimate WO. Cam will continue to put fuel on this thing until Len’s goose is well and truly cooked.

  • timemagazine

Campbell is probably gargling in preparation for tonight’s show and rehearsing his facial expressions and companionate voice. Isn’t it Mr. Campbell?

  • corporate refugee

Of course if Brown does lose his job, or heaven forbid resign, it will not be his own fault. It will be due to the relentless pressure from politically motivated opponents that have made his position untenable. I can see the report in the Herald already.

  • rockape

Dont expect too much,I dont think this report will be the end of Brown . However as Churchill said it may be the beginning of the end. Especially if it turns out he has mislead the enquiery.

  • JeffDaRef

It will be impossible for the report to “clear him of wrongdoing” – we already know he did wrong on at least the count of adultery!!
Even if the report finds he didn’t misuse council resources – he can hardly come out and claim to be vindicated, can he….??
    Time to go Len!!

    • Chancey

he did misuse council resources the ngati whatua room is a public place not for mayors the shagging of

    • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

He will exactly do that. He has nicely escaped out of this whether you like it or not. I predicted this long back bro.

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

So it is all over. As I predicted, the report clears Len Brown of any wrong doing. So what is the big deal? As far as the other so called “embarrassing findings” – all Lentils need to do now is put up a sad face and say sorry. Jafas will forget everything. Lentils will issue a cheerful Christmas message about the importance of spending time with the family. Lentils is a real winner bros. I am thinking of writing a book over the Christmas break titled “Lentil Defence: The mechanism of survival in local body politics”.

Moving on bros….Labour has an election to win in 2014…..

    • thor42

“Labour has an election to LOSE in 2014″.
There, I’ve fixed it for you.

      • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

All my predictions are coming true thor42….

    • Martin

Big deal is in the details- the embarrassing findings.

  • thor42

Maybe someone can take a private prosecution against Brown?
*How can it be possible* that he bonked on council property and yet didn’t break any rules?
Is there no “code of conduct” for the Mayor (as there is for almost everyone else)?
The guy was bonking in the Ngati Whatua room, FFS. is THAT not “inappropriate behaviour”, sufficient to be immediately dismissed? In MOST jobs it would be.

    Bernard at his finest:

“hotels for sex with Ms Chuang has been uncovered by Ernst & Young, who spent seven weeks probing … Mr Brown.”

Ok, a little omission there for effect, but still :)

    • Chancey

oh forgiver him he has written almost 500 words this week – it must have put a strain on him

    • Jester

Hey Pete. Those books show up ok?

      • http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/ Pete

        I’ve seen people acknowledging receipt.

  • Phill

Hmmmm…so the report is released a week ago, and is believed to be damaging. Len has a week to make up a story and lawyer up…and hey presto…no wrong doing!
This has to be the biggest crock of shit fed to the public since they told us Oswald acted on his own!

    • Gordon Gibson

      Supercity?
      Super Mayor?
      Integrity?
My white, quivering, right – wing arse!

      • Phill

        You forgot transparency and accountability!!
        :o)

  • Gordon Gibson

    HA HA How appropriate!
Just heard on Live the EY report will be released at 2:30 today.
    Chinese dentist appointment time!!

  • http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/ Pete

    So, a man that

    – Lied in LGOIMA request answers
    – Covered up a formal Mayoral trip to Hong Kong
    – Conducted an illicit affair for two years

    is cleared of any wrongdoing.

Are we even in the same reality here?

    • Chancey

      nope

  • 4077th

I said it a day or 2 ago. It will be and has been washed well and truly sparkling white. Now I am looking forward to the real truths being told exclusively on this media outlet called Whaleoil. Open the gates and release the hounds Cam.

  • GregM

Aren’t we all jumping the gun here ? Or have I missed something ?

  • Lux

It’s a good day for the report to come out, len has absolutely nothing on his agenda today, I wonder if he will do a media meet and answer a few questions…

    • Chancey

yes he can go stand on the street in howick and self immolate or summat, like he did last time he got caught

  • Chancey

oh he has been at the Nelson Mandela service today – his diary isnt very accurate, hope he has time to get back under his desk before our valiant media take up the challenge and ask him some real questions

  • corporate refugee

I see the Herald is already running a smokescreen story about this blog’s receipt of piccies from Jason Eade.
