More electoral dishonesty from Phil Goff

A reader emails:

Hi Cam,

Just received these election flyers in the mail here in Papatoetoe.

One brochure shows the “independent” Phil Goff appearing on a Labour flyer.

The smaller ‘blue’ flyer was delivered inside the Labour one.

You’ll notice Ashraf Choudary is also standing – the one who supports stoning and campaigned for the removal of the cross on top of the clocktower in Palmerston North.

So we have an “independent” Phil Goff once again misleading voters by using Labour party resources to deliver his pamphlets.

I think it has been a while since we’ve had a more dishonest candidate than Phil Goff.

I can confirm it wasn’t a one off placement either, I’m in the same area and mine were delivered in like fashion.

    • sheppy

I’ve seen Goff using Green Hoardings, Blue Hoardings and very rarely Red Hoardings.
Let’s hope the ratepayers that can be bothered to vote aren’t as stupid as he thinks they are

    • biscuit barrel

Arent all pamphlets whether for political or the usual junk mail ‘nested’ before delivery to speed up the process ?

      • Isherman

Sometimes, though not always is what I’d say. I know they don’t take any notice of “No Circulars or Junk Mail” signs anyway.

If he is using Labour resources what his he using the $250,000 he has fundraiser for. Starting to wonder if a large amount of that money has gone to the Labour Party’s local bodies campaign.
Something is not adding up, lines are getting blurred.

    • James

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand, he will be limited to using $100,000 from donations in his campaign. If that is the case, I guarantee the remaining $150k is being funneled to the Labour Party. He is playing everyone for fools. Churchill’s vote re democracy continues to leap into my mind.

      • Sally

He needs to stack the council with compliant men and woman to ram through his policies so he will do anything to get Labour people onto the council.

        • Aucky

And that is where we MUST fight him and ensure that his toadies do not get to be Councillors.

      • biscuit barrel

That $100k is the ‘floor’ there is also allowed 50c more per elector and as Auckland Council area has 1.05 million electors its another $0.5mill on to of that. Make that $600k

        • biscuit barrel

          From Auckland Council election pamphlet
“The estimated expenditure limit for the
mayor is $625,374 (including GST), based on
          1,050,749 electors (as at 31 December 2015).”

Just in the same way that the imams tell us they are going to use the West’s laws and tolerances against us to defeat us, so to are the Labour party.

This won’t be illegal and it won’t even get a look in at the rules being changed around it.

    Phil “free pass” Goff.

  • kayaker

Is this in breach of the relevant Acts, Electoral Regulations?

  • RightyTighty LeftyLoosey

Spotted this in Onehunga today. Can I vote for any of the three on the left? (No pun intended)

  • RightyTighty LeftyLoosey
  • Geordie

More likely the Labour party using Phil Goff’s resources

  • D.Dave

The headline “More Electoral Dishonesty from Phil Goff” would tend to suggest that at some point in time there had been some “Honesty” from Phil Goff. As he is a career trougher, and a “never had a real job’ politician, I would like to point out that this is highly unlikely.

  • peterwn

Phil is actually very smart. He effectively said to Labour – I am happy to stand for mayor under a Labour mantle, but once I am Mayor no one else will tell me what to do – He is not bound by Labour Party rules. He got a better deal than Justin Leister in Wellington. Justin needed Labour’s endorsement to head off Nick Leggatt and so will be bound by Labour Party rules in his Mayoral conduct (if he wins).

  • George Carter

Might be a dumb question but is this against the rules or just a loophole that he’s shamelessly exploiting?

    • biscuit barrel

Vic Crone has been backed by a lot of Auckland national Mps and the Auckland Future group but is listed as Independent.
      Everybody is doing it.

      • And I have whacked her too…plus she is really dopey.

        • Kevin

Anyone who uses the words “fresh ideas” in their campaign slogans is dopey. We don’t need fresh ideas. We need old stale ideas that have been proven to work and will work.

          • biscuit barrel

You are right but for a marketing campaign to reach dont knows you have to offer a deal.

  • STAG

BU tit wont matter, he only does it because he knows he can, no one is going to stop him, he’s cake walking into the job. Where are the resources to audit his campaign and ensure that an independent candidate doesn’t use a political party to get his message across? no one will stand up and so Spitter, Paint Thrower, Age of consent lowering, once Communist Party member Goff gets to be Mayor.

    • Aucky

      You forgot Hand Holder.

  • Not-an-expert

What makes me amazed is that in this time when everyone can find out why they bother to lie so much and think they can get away with it?
