    Today in Rock History:
Born today in 1952 Gerry Beckley founding member and guitarist with America.

Born today in 1956 Brian Robertson, guitarist with Thin Lizzy and later Motorhead.

Today in 1970, Creedence Clearwater Revival went to number on the UK album charts with “Cosmo’s Factory”

Today in 1989, Aerosmith released “Pump” their 10th studio album.

Died today in 2003 Johnny Cash, singer and songwriter. A crossover artist equally at home in country, rock and gospel, he has been inducted into all three music halls of fame.

    • Nige.

Here’s Robbo in one of my favorite Motorhead songs. A love song that if you listen to the words (if you can hear them, or indeed call them words) are deeper than someone would think.

Michelle answered last nights question with:

    ” been having 2 cups a day”

What is it for you? Tea, coffee, Milo, water, milk, v, Redbull, coke……?

    • Jude

I limit myself to one cup of nescafe caramel latte, but drink endless cups of bell tea and green tea !

    • Huia

Coffee to kick off the day, allow another about mid morning then go onto green tea/ginger/lemon then hit the glass of wine in the evening.

    • Tap water

      • D.Dave

Can’t do tap water on our scheme. Some idiot in the Council keeps chlorinating, it ever so slightly.to ‘flush the pipes’. It has ruined, what was once, a beautiful tasting water supply. Apparently it brings us UP to some ridiculous international standard.

    • STAG

      Tea at home,
      Coffee at work,
      Redbull when hungover,
Beer when the FAWNS have retired,
      Red wine at a restaurant,
Brandy at 1am is often thought a good idea but results in Redbull.

    • Chris EM

Coffee, heaps of coffees, then beautiful refreshing water when I get dehydrated from all the coffees.

      • MaryLou

Ditto. Although I find I leave cups of it everywhere I go, forgetting where is, and go and make a new one. So even though I seem to be making one probably twice an hour, I actually drink a lot less than people think. Or that’s my excuse.

        • Chris EM

I rarely finish my cup as well. Sometimes I’ll pop it in the microwave to warm it up again, but it doesn’t taste the same.

          • MaryLou

LOL so do I – or drink it cold. I swear I’m immune to any kind of food poisoning now, and my family gives me a hard time. But I never get a chance to finish a whole cup, and – well, waste not, want not!

    • Sally

      My day goes like this
tea, coffee, tea, tea, tea, wine, tea, with water in between

      • You missed out: toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet, toilet,

    • JEL51

Have to have ‘good’ espresso x 2 in the morning then it’s boiled water or green tea for the rest of the day until its red wine time. My first 45 yrs I was a black tea person. Hardly ever touch it now.

    • Richard

      Strictly Green Tea, or H20.

    • Miss McGerkinshaw

Tea, coffee (sometimes 2) tea, and then either tea, Milo or Horlicks just before bed or once there. Soda stream in between.

  • Wheninrome

Wendy puts on the “sad mournful” voice when Mr Dann talks about the good news for the government giving them a head wind going into the election year, she sounded as though it was the worst possible news she had to front.

  • shykiwibloke

Here’s one that just came across my desk. Hillary Dollars!

  • ex-JAFA

Why does Commie Dann constantly refer to the Greens as “Labour’s coalition partner”? They’re not in a coalition. They’ve never been in a coalition. (In fact, the Greens have never been in a government.) And there’s no agreement for them to form a coalition in future.

Maybe he just wants to remind us that a vote for Labour is a vote for the Greens.

    • Gazza

Yep , its a worry , Peters is trying to suggest the same , will that mean that he will be able to say there you go Green/Labour is just a little bit behind National , I will support them

  • geoff2112

Angry doesn’t like latest poll. He’s seen another one showing different result.

    What planet is he on?

    • ex-JAFA

Planet Key, I believe it’s called.

    • Nige.

      He looked Angered.

      • Gazza

He is angry at us , us people that don’t want a him to stymie growth , to force us into things we don’t want to do , do ban Chinese people from living here , ban Chinese and Indian chefs , stiff arm banks , break all trade deals , of cause he is angry , wouldn’t you be LOL , actually after saying the polls are wrong , I think this will have to reset the counter for his absolute ballsups

        • Nige.

He actually reminded me of Clinton calling Trump supporters names.

At the time she made her comment it reminded me of a union member calling people Scabs.

          • Gazza

You have to remember that he thinks anybody not agreeing with him are right wingers LOL

    • Gazza

      Planet union

  • Blueburd

I found this video interesting. Especially the part saying that Obama has only released 150 pages out of nearly 1 million from the Bin Ladin cache recovered after they raided the compound.

I will not be sorry to see Obama end his term as president

    • Huia

The denialists still deny and welcome them into the country. This is going to explode before too long.

      • Blueburd

Obama, Clinton and a whole range of others are certainly going to be worried when Trump gets in. The amount of corruption is going to catch up with them very quickly

  • Jude

So Andrew Little claims the One news poll is rogue and he does not believe the result.
His polls tell a different story.
This is why Labour are dying as a political force.
They have given up trying to connect to the voters, instead, like the MSM , they try to force their views on voters.
The voters are not buying from Labour or MSM.
I wonder if Little will believe the election night result 2017 or will that be “rogue” too!

    • Wasapilot

I had forgotten about tonights poll release. Just before the news report tonight I donated to Nationals presidents appeal. If I had seen angry’s response before I dontated I would have doubled it. Consider yourself very lucky little. 😀

      • STAG

Yes, an impassioned appeal which I felt duty bound to respond to.

    • Curly1952

Who’s poll was it Jude? I missed the news so will look on the web

      • Jude

        tv one

    • Blueburd

Don’t watch msm news. What were the totals?

      • Nige.

        National on 99%

        • Blueburd

bahahaha… you made me choke on my nacho’s lol

          • Nige.

            It is!

99% chance of governing after the next election!

      • Jude

        Nat 48%, Lab 26%, Green 13% and Nzf 11% , Maori 2%

        • Wasapilot

In some respects I agree with little re it being a rogue poll, as it stated he was at 10% preferred PM, surely he would not be that high.

        • STAG

26% has really got to sting, how do you wake up each morning to try and ruin the country and keep heart that the world is wrong and only you Little the Leftie Savour know the truth.

        • Gazza

So no other party registered at all , are act now at 0%

          • Jude

i dont think they did on this poll but assume Seymour and Dunne retain their seats? I think that was in the analysis.

      • Greg M

“On these numbers National would be able to form a government using its existing support partners, assuming that is Peter Dunne and Act’s David Seymour win their seats.
Labour and the Greens, even with New Zealand First on board, would fall short.”
Someone should courier a carton of tissues up to TV 1, they looked devastated.

        • Jude

I really hope National can do this without Dunne. I hope Act does better and can win another seat??
I think maybe Labour voters may sit this one out. Very hard to vote for a negative no policy party, even for the diehards!

          • Greg M

Agree. National need to be going after Ohariu hard, the natives there are getting restless and tired of Peter Dunne slowing down or stopping government policy.

          • ex-JAFA

Don’t just hope, make it happen. Cast your vote for what you want!

    • Pluto

Rogue poll tonight, rogue GDP numbers on Thursday.

    • Wasapilot

Did you notice how smber corin dann looked. Mirrored ms bradfords depression when she was on last nights news. Very sad, not.

      • Nige.

I actually asked myself if…perhaps….he’s changed teams!

        • XCIA

Perhaps Prozac is making a comeback. Wasn’t it popular in the media during the 80/90’s?

        • Wheninrome

Possibly but that still falls to the left if we think of the LGBT vote.

      • Jude

Well the trouble with the Msm trying to manufacture crisis after crisis, only telling part of the story and not doing proper investigation of facts before going to print, people have lost faith in them.
I think by reading what people are writing on these MSM facebook and other blogs, it is clear the public are fed up with the rubbish being manufactured as news!

        • Gazza

I think you could be correct Jude , perhaps that vile manufactured skulduggery all the time is actually doing Labour the harm ,

          • Jude

Exactly, and when the economy is picking up, and all the crisis are slowly being resolved, it does not leave much wriggle room for Labour.
The stuff they will have to make up now will be ridiculous!

          • Blueburd

Cue: More mothers of 4 selling drugs being evicted from the state house we all help pay for.

Labour will roll out every derro going

            Edit: accidental hit post

          • Gazza

Yep , the left just don’t get it , the level headed middle NZ , you know , were the elections are won , don’t like the absolute nohoper that live in some of our state houses , and the dole for that

          • Gazza

Cant wait for the GDP figures :)

          • Blueburd

            I’m going 3.64%

          • Gazza

They are saying it will be 3.7 5 , some are saying it could be higher , ghez , and what will the quickly increasing dairy price do for the GDP in 6 months or so

          • Blueburd

sure is a good time to be in NZ. No wonder people are wanting to come here

          • Gazza

I think its time to tell the few that are bitter , go and live in a country that has better living standards

          • Jude

They will astonish us with their business acumen lol! No doubt the Greens will say that the top 1% are the ones benefiting while the rest of NZ live in cars or tents.
The rich will be the ones benefiting from this, John Key looking after his mates …
They are like a tired record.

          • Gazza

Well you mention the people living in cars and tents , from what I am hearing , the people are there by choice , and apparently they are all in full time work , by question to any leftie is what are they doing with their money , I mean , a little petrol money , fish and chips for the kids , well even a low paid worker will still be left with 5 hundy a week , my words for them is drugs tobacco , drinking and gambling , says it all really , but ghez you want to see what I get called for that honest state of the car and tent sleepers

          • Greg M

Last year 2,431,557 guest nights were spent in small station wagon type campervans, an increase of 15.8% from inbound tourists alone. Can’t be too bad.

            MBIE reports here: http://www.mbie.govt.nz/info-services/sectors-industries/tourism/tourism-research-data/commercial-accommodation-monitor/current-month-rto-reports

          • I keep saying that. Plenty of people are willing to PAY to live in a vehicle in NZ.

      • OneTrack

He needs to work on not displaying his feelings so much, and at least try and emulate the idea of an independent media when he’s on air.

        • Gazza

Even though he knows the media are trying to shaft the government

      • Gazza

Little had a somber look on his face on the photos on 2 or 3 articles over the weekend

    • Blueburd

Just waiting on Angry to start saying that 48% of NZ are in the basket of deplorables

      • Gazza

Has anybody thought about telling the media party they are backing the wrong horse

      • cows4me

        Oh I hope he does.

    • Pluto

Angry in an emergency meeting with his staff:
“right you scabs we need to spin the crap out of this one, JK’s a liar, a loser, a thief…”
Angry then thinks to himself “why am i in an empty room ?’

    • Isherman

Heh, taken between 3rd & 7th of September. Poor Andy, 20 days of working so hard to avoid a balls-up by saying basically nothing, and still goes backwards!

      • twittertit

Good point! Does his bogus comment count as a balls up???

    • Greg M

      Some advice for Mr Little.

“Complaining about a problem without proposing a solution is called whining”.

      – Teddy Roosevelt.

  • Nige.

I have to watch the tv news tonight. So much going on.

Jack Tame reporting that it was a hot sticky day in New York. Well I have spent a big chunk of my day sitting on my backside watching fox news and everyone has been saying that it was indeed a hot week but not yesterday. Yesterday it was mild there and there was a Sea breeze at the time that this heat stroke of Clintons happened.

    Jack…..you’re not fooling anyone.

    • Blueburd

was 80f which is 26.6c. He’s fooling nobody

    • MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels

Media really struggling to spin that one. Today was a good day imho.

    • cows4me

Jack’s a full flushing leftist idiot. Poor old Cankles I’m willing to bet she’s not the only one sweating . Imagine if you had thrown a couple of million her way and she is limping coming into the home straight. Many will be wondering if they have done their dough, I sure hope they have. If she doesn’t kick the bucket before the election she better hope she wins because there will be a heap of upset punters around to ship her off to the Butch factory.

      • Huia

Dustin Moskovitz the other half of facebook pledged 20 million a few days ago to get her into the white house.
How blind and desperate can one be.
Makes you wonder what concessions facebook have been promised in return.

  • Korau

    Another Aussie terrorist attack yesterday.

“A man was arrested in the Sydney suburb of Minto for allegedly stabbing a
59-year-old man and attempting to attack an officer in what police are
    describing as a terrorist act.”

    and…

“We know that this person has strong extremists beliefs inspired by ISIS”

Just another lone wolf, no doubt. Too close to home too.

    Source : http://www.westernslopenow.com/news/man-arrested-in-sydney-for-isisinspired-attack

    • Blueburd

Another one slipped through mental health services I guess

    • Huia

He could be alcoholic, mentally ill or hold an Australian passport.
He also may just be a dangerous, amoral, brainwashed jihadist wannabe.
Little twerp has answered the Mullahs call to kill Aussies.

    • OneTrack

It won’t happen here. Because we’re “nice”.

    • Duchess of Pork

I read that last night and have waited all day to see if will be picked up by NZME. Nothing, nadda, zip. Seems their only concern is that we understand the effect of heatwaves on elderly women.

      • JEL51

Larry’s Auzzy correspondent went over it lightly but yes pneumonia was discussed at length.

        • Duchess of Pork

Thks J. I was restricted to print sources today.

  • spanishbride

Someone at “A Newspaper” has mixed up all the links. Click on a number of these headlines and you will be sent to the wrong news story.Tut Tut if you pay peanuts you get monkeys ( no offence Pete :)

  • Blueburd

So, if Angry talks, the polls don’t move. If he doesn’t talk the polls don’t move.

And the answer is, rogue polls. This MUST be spinning the head of some in Labour. Must be fun being over the barrel and coping it from unions and they are on the same team

    • nellie

But, but, but he kept quiet and his personal approval rating went up!

      • Greg M

        No surprises there. )

      • Gazza

Um the personal approval surge is with in the margin of error LOL , he will be at 6 % next time

    • STAG

Can we reset him because his plan of hiding to improve his numbers flopped?

  • STAG

There’s a sure fire way to make it rain, order a tanker load of water.

    • Nige.

How much do you pay for a tanker down your way?

      • STAG

$170 for 150 00 liters which sux cos the tank is only 10k, so the rest just get pumped though. 2nd time in the last month, it’s been a dry spring so far and the FAWNS running their own baths to literally within an inch of the edge don’t help.

  • Wheninrome

Hilary might need some powerful antibiotics in order to front for the debate next week.

  • Yep. We know. (pic)

    • Greg M

Even with the massive media coverage of the 9/11 remembrance, a civilian posted the only known video of the health issue. So we are expected to believe not one of the MSM had a camera on Hillary at all times ?

      • Wasapilot

Surely Fox News will now record all gatherings that she is at. Trump might even pay for. Amera crews to follow ner.

She appears to be genuinely ill, which I would not wish upon her. Maybe it is time to rein in your ego hilary, and pull the pin now?

    • Nige.

      With your twitter to follow

      • Isherman

He has it posted there twice. One is removed now, the other one still plays.

    • Miss McGerkinshaw

His might be gone but just been there and there are a lot of videos of the event. Perhaps utube just can’t keep up with deleting the many postings!?!?!

  • Nige.

Just in via my source inside my kids school:The lovely lady who first sang the national anthem of Wales twice before rugby tests recently, and the national anthem of Argentina last weekend before the All Blacks had a training session with them, is set to stand before us again! This time unfortunately it will be for the Australians. Only a matter of time though before she bumps Lizzie and Walker off their pedestals.

    Go Miss Thomas!

Skip to 1:07. It has an unusually long intro

    And the welsh

    • Carl

Can you have a non Kiwi sing the NZ national anthem at an AB’s home game? I have no problem with it but some would.

      • Nige.

Can have non Kiwis playing for the team…. I draw the line at coaches though.

    • Michelle

And she hails all the way from Wales
      Great voice

  • What do Hillary and building 7 have in common? Neither were hit by planes but both collapsed on 9/11.

    (sorry if seen before)

    • Wasapilot

What do the twin towers and hilary have in common?
      They both collapsed on 9/11

  • Gaynor

Posted this onGD but will repeat here for the evening crew.
Has Hilary lost weight or has she a body double

    • Miss McGerkinshaw

WOW makes one wonder, although black (or dark blue in this case) is slimming of course????!!!!!

      • Isherman

Nice theory. Unfortunately, if you were going to pull that, you wouldn’t let a double speak to the press.

        • Miss McGerkinshaw

You’re probably correct but she didn’t really say that much – at least not in the clip I saw of her ‘Lasarus’ stunt.

        • Nige.

The real Hillary is on holiday with Paul McCartney and Elvis.

    • Michelle

the size of the one on the lefts nose, her cheeks and hair
l wonder if anyone has her voice on tape or they just took this pic of a double to say here she is all well now?

    • Greg M

The one on the left is blonder. She must be the one that uses bleach bit.

      • She will be grey by now. So it all comes out of a bottle.

      • curry4me

Priceless dude. Wish I’d thought of it.

    • Sagacious Blonde

The face on the right looks steroid puffy.

  • Wasapilot

Just seen this on a newspapers website
“However he will not have to face his MPs for at least a week – Little is travelling to Canada to attend the Global Progress conference, an international gathering of social democrat party leaders where he will rub shoulders with the likes of Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau.”

Oh what joy it would be, also rubbing shoulders with the likes of jeremy corbin. Apart from Trudeau, it will be more of a losers convention than a conference.

    • Jude

Yes and it is funny how John Key is lambasted for his photo ops, I wonder if we will see Little take any selfies to share?
Its ok when the left do it :)

      • Sally

He will have to fire up his social media to share.

  • GoingRight

When my hubby had pneumonia he was quite weak and lacked energy. There is no way that he could one moment be in a collapsed state (although he didn’t actually collapse) and a couple of hours later be bright as a button and chirpy as Hillary presented after leaving her daughter’s apartment. Something is very fishy here me thinks!

    • Lux

I have had pneumonia, and there is no way I would have been in collapsed mode, then able to walk to next. I did collapse and was in bed for weeks and it was so painful to even wiggle my toes.
Her diagnosis and health issues, just the ones caught on cameras, do not add up.

      • Bluemanning

In my mid thirties I was unaware that I was walking around with bronchial pneumonia, working playing sport etc living normally ; however the cough got a bit much and quite sore, so I went to the doctor who seriously advised that I had pneumonia and to continue working more than likely would damage my heart and of course lungs. He prescribed antibiotics, and bed rest. I wasn’t up and around again for three weeks, and even then the doc who made house calls reluctantly allowed me to return to work. I was a young and fit 35 year old.

        • Wheninrome

I was exactly the same, finally pleurisy and collapsed lung put me into hospital huge antibiotics and home to bed rest. Certain times of the year or atmospheric conditions give me a tickle in the throat, nasal spray sorts it out. I can understand Hillarys coughing fits, if she is lucky the antibiotics will sort it, but generally a bit of rest helps, not a full on campaign.

          • Bluemanning

Yes I forgot that I also had left side pleurisy! My only excuse is that it was 30 years ago. :-)
So Hillary is potentially doing herself irreparable cardiovascular pulmonary damage if she has pneumonia by carrying on with the campaign. By bouncing back so quickly it just doesn’t add up for me.

          • Wheninrome

Yes, mine was 30 years ago, I was playing a lot of aerobic sport at the time so reasonably fit.

    • jonno1

Totally agree. Have just had two stints in hospital with pneumonia (first one didn’t ‘take’), and I’ll tell you for free that you feel like death warmed up, totally bereft of energy, until the antibiotics kick in at about day 3. No way is there a quick fix, except possibly a huge dose of steroids but even that would take a day to have any effect and then not last long (maybe two days tops).

    • Pneumonia nearly killed me and I was in hospital for two and half weeks. I couldn’t stand much less fall over.

  • Nige.

    Oh….. oh…. just reported on fox….

    Now Hillary was dehydrated (pic)

    • Nige.

Next they’ll say she was hyperthermic.

      • Moonroof

        She was feeling quite deplorable.

        • Nige.

She’s looking like a basket case

          • Moonroof

            Can’t trump that just now.

          • Nige.

I can tell you’ve Donald your research on that one.

            (Get it…Donald….Done-all….ahh forget it)

          • KatB

Ivana say you’ve lost the plot.

          • Nige.

ACT on their usual 1% or so and I can’t see that changing while Seymour is the leader. He doesn’t seem to have any ideas and the ones we’ve given him (about cutting refugee numbers and only taking in “culturally compatible” refugees) seem to have been ignored. If he can’t lift ACT’s support then he should step aside for someone who can.

      • Nige.

        Well….. hes better than Whyte

      • hookerphil

At this stage feel the an ACT would once again be wasted and Seymour has said a few things that are nor what I would expect from ACT.

    • Sailor Sam

Andy called it another “rogue poll”.
That is OK, so his 10% is obviously also incorrect.

It horrifies me seeing that second plane fly into the Tower.! Those poor souls.
The bravery of those police and fire personnel also must be remembered.
With intelligence and cooperation this hopefully must never happen again.
Those liberals wringing their hands over loss of freedom or privacy, watch this clip and remember!

      • Wasapilot

I remember the alarm going off that morning, lying there still half asleep listening to something about aircraft hitting a building in NY. Suddenly wide awake, turned to TV on in our bedroom to see footage of an aeroplane slamming into tne first tower. Etched in my memory.

        • Roland

Yes, I got a phone call, get up and watch the TV, doubly hard after I had thrown my wife out early that morning for continued indescretions with her boss. Broke my heart after 20 something years of marriage. At least I got the children. Will never forget that day

        • Jude

It was horrifying to watch. I remember there was a documentary being filmed and the crew were with the firemen.
It really brought home how scary the whole situation was.
Seeing people choosing to jump made me weep.
Probably the fact it was filmed from woa to the collapse made it so realfor everyone world wide.
We shared that tragedy with the American people.

        • Goldie

Yes, much the same. Had Sky at the time and switched to CNN and saw the second plane hit live. Then watched both buildings eventually come down.
A shocking bit of history to see live on TV!

        • Alan Beresford B’Stard

Same. Radio came on and Paul Holmes was talking about it, I thought he was joking. Went down stairs turned on tv and watched as it unfolded. I’ll never forget that day.

        • MaryLou

I was folding yet more washing with 2 babies under 1yr. Hubby rang me and told me to put the news on. It was horrendous watching. One that stood out (aside from the awful images on the tv) was the rapidity of messages from leaders from all round the world (including people you’d never expect it from) vowing to help America root out whoever did it. At that moment, the world was on tenterhooks. They thought America would lose the plot and take vengeance everywhere.

        • EpochNZ

Watched it live……A friend and I had driven down from Auckland to stay with my brother in Welly and had just finished watching some vids. Video went off and TV flicked to CNN….and there was the first tower in flames. First thought was “They are so screwed”. Then there was the second tower, the pentagon, the plane in the field….it was confusing and incredibly scary as there was no real understanding of what was happening or where it was going to end. Most people woke up and the drama had already played out so missed that facet of it.

      • Lux

I had just gone to bed and fallen asleep .. and woken up with my sister screaming into her phone in the bedroom next door …

We were told to turn on TV ..

        It was unbelievable ..

We sat there and watched frozen..

        • Lux

It was the first day I went to work in my pyjamas and no-one noticed..

    • Sunnyjim

I emailed a friend of mine in the States over the weekend to commemorate the Twin Tower attacks. He had lost family and friends and was extremely traumatised by the events. He has since shifted to San Francisco in California but he replied that he is still of the opinion that the USA should have flattened Mecca, since Bin Laden was a Saudi Arabian prince and 19 of the terrorists were Saudi Arabian and also that Saudi Arabia had financed the operation.

In his view the western world has not learned anything since 9/11 and that the west do not understand Islam. He points out that:

      – Islam means “submission”. It never meant “peace” or anything nice and cuddly. Submission necessarily implies domination

      – Islam is not a “religion of peace”. It is not really a religion at all. Islam is a *theocratic ideology of domination”. In Islam, Allah (an Arabian god) dominates everything; men egregiously dominate women, and Muslims dominate kafir (infidels). Calling Islam a religion is like calling an automobile an engine.

      – Islam divides the world into two “houses”: Dar ul-Islam (the “House of Submission”) and Dar ul-Harb (the “House of War”). All Muslims are citizens of Dar ul-Islam; we kafir are citizens of Dar ul-Harb. The global goal of Islam is to destroy Dar ul-Harb, either by converting all kafir to Islam, or by killing us.

      – Therefore, not only is it false to say “ISIS is not Islamic”, as President Obama did; it is actually the opposite of the truth. ISIS and similar groups, and “radical” preachers like the UK’s Anjem Choudary may be the purest expressions of Islam today.

      • curry4me

They should have flattened Kandahar too. That’s where Osama bin Laden was at the time. It’d soon have made other countries think twice about harboring terrorists. Pity president Bush was not more like Harry Truman.

    • Michelle

Hubby got up at 5.30am and turned on tv, like he did every morning then comes running in to tell me
we watched in disbelief then headed off to milk and came home to watch on and off most of the day, l was pleased to go and milk again in afternoon to get away from it all for a while

I was living in Sydney. My folks were over visiting. It was bed time. About 11pm or something. Just turned on to see the end of the news and saw what looked like the start of the news. Then the next thing that was said while i was coming to grips with what was going on was “we’ve just heard there appears to be a second plane heading towards the same area” What seemed like an eternity later the worst thing i have ever witnessed in my life happened. The imprint of that second plane silhouetted into the buildings windows and the thought of the instantaneous death that surely occurred will be a memory which I can never shake.

Sorry to get all deep on everyone: All the things i have learned since in regards to Iraq, Iran, Saudi family, the Bushes the Clintons the Bath party the conspiracys the american history with oil….. that for me was the awakening of the realization of what true evil is.

    • DavidW

Arrived in Tel Aviv during the course of the day a week after walking under the Trade Towers on the way to lunch from Battery Park. Long story about reactions of locals, rapid departure of expats next day to any destination possible, apprehension about it being possibly a diversion to hide a major Arab attack on Israel, the best local bacon served at the Kibbutz across the road from my hotel, Big Bang fireworks at the wedding hall next door, watching New York live for hours. Very disturbing all up and happiness at finally departing 3 days later.
Obviously it was a good thing that it was isolated to NY but that mustn’t detract from the barbarianism displayed and the culpability of countries like Saudi Arabia which seems to have escaped Scot Free in spite of all their support for terrorism over the years.

      • Greg M

Interesting that 18 of the 19 terrorists were Saudi’s but somehow the kingdom got let off scot free. And as long as the money keeps rolling in to US politicians charities nothing will ever be done about it.

      • Nige.

The rock radio station “triple M” turned into TalkBack the next day. Someone phoned in in tears saying they had just heard a bunch of Muslims cheering and excitedly saying to each other things like “did you see what we did to them!”

The other thing about all this worth noting has been Trumps response, or the lack of it in fact. He’s allowing this to stew nicely in it’s own juices. Personally I’ll put that down to some good advice rather than innate wisdom, but all the same, it’s almost unlike him and therefore interesting.

      • Sunnyjim

It is probably the right thing to do and not say anything and let the events speak for themselves that Hilary really is unelectable.

Why did she go 3 miles to Chelseas house if it was a serious thing like pneumonia?

See the way she was leaning on that bollard & how she was manhandled into the van? That ain’t no pneumonia sufferer. There is something much different going on there. She was so unsteady & almost resisting moving from the safety of leaning on the bollard. I wonder if flying into Bosnia under a hail of sniper fire has affected her somewhat.

Seems Goff made a promise to PDB that he would find a place for him if he stood down……..”Labour MP Phil Goff is not ruling out a job for outgoing Auckland mayor Len Brown if he wins the mayoralty, but says it is very unlikely in the short-term.”
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11706502

    • Jude

Surely to goodness that would put a lot of people off voting for Goff???
I really don’t see how Goff thought that was a wise comment to make.
Are there heaps of lefties up in Auckland that admire Brown or something?

      • XCIA

Can you just imagine what other deals have been made to get Goff across the line. I can well imagine the Unions out in force telling their members how to vote.

        • Jude

I am thankful our green mayor saw the writing on the wall and stood down.
Have to say am surprised after the Len Brown mayoralty that Auckland still seems to favor Goff. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.
It would be sda if like i suspect will happen in the election next year, the right wing don’t bother to vote in local body, and left wing don’t bother to vote in General election.

          • Goldie

I really don’t understand why the centre-right can’t get it together for the local body elections. It’s great having them in government, but if they could work together with like minded councils, they could really get things happening?

          • Jude

It is frustrating. Maybe the young are put off by the left wing rubbish forced on them at uni?
We have a few independent and Jo standing down here.
With our STV system, you have to make your votes count. ie don’t rank a candidate you don’t want on council.
Vote first choice Mayor and second choice. I would not rank rest.

          • Hard1

One possible theory is that the elected are not in any way influencing how the city is being ‘operated’.
In other words, the public faces serve as a distraction.

          • Goldie

I guess that’s possible, but I’d also hate to think that is the case. One would assume that the councillors have ultimate responsibility over decisions and direction the local authorities take, in the same way ministers do over government departments.

          • Hard1

Yes, one could view that Len Brown had his views formed in Hong Kong, or alternatively by the permanent staff well versed in newcomers and how to please and manipulate them, of course allowing them to appear to be in charge.
Just imagine some clever staffer bending the ear of the early version of the “third rate conveyancing lawyer”, saying “Isn’t Auckland just a little bit like Hong Kong?. Look how efficient and economically strong they are, with their high-rises and underground trains. And by the the way, there’s someone I’d like you to meet”

          • XCIA

If Goff is going to hire PDB, pay the “living wage” to everyone who is not already on $500K and generally be philanthropic with ratepayers money, that just might motivate the silent majority into action.

    • kayaker

This should be published far and wide so voters know what harm they would be inflicting on Auckland if they vote for Goff. We’ve had enough of the PDB years, he should’ve been taken down in 2013 when he disgraced himself.

Politics aside Phil is actually a good bloke, what the hell is he doing by effectively endorsing a waste of space like Lenny. This is going to cost him votes.

Got a phone call from a nun this evening who is flying to Wellington with other nuns to take part in a ‘homelessness’ protest outside parliament. As the nun lives in a convent with some 3 unoccupied spare rooms I had to bite my tongue to ask why the charity didn’t begin at home. And why the money to pay for the air tickets to the pointless protest couldn’t be better spent in giving money to the homeless to help them alleviate their homeless predicament.

Why would you bite your tongue?

I loathe wishful-thinking conspiratorialism. But I have just spent the evening researching HRC and Parkinsons Disease, and I am now reasonably convinced we are about to see a presidential campaign unravel.

It is extraordinary. Why would she do it? If you were a successful, driven person who has had presidential dreams for 30 years, kept them alive through setback after bruising setback, only to discover, as you close in on your goal, you have Parkinsons – wouldn’t you say “**** it, I have ten years left in me, I’ll just go all in” -?

It’s late, but isn’t this such a great introductory paragraph…
” Kim Jong-un is not planning on giving up his rule of North Korea anytime soon. Having achieved another successful nuclear test, and successfully launching a theater ballistic missile from a submarine, Kim capped his summer by reportedly executing his Vice Premier Kim Yong-jin for slouching during Kim’s speech at 13th Supreme People’s Assembly this past June.”
