An 11-year-old boy has been abducted and sexually assaulted in a four-hour ordeal in the West Auckland suburb of Ranui.
About 3.55pm on Thursday, the boy got off a train at Ranui Station and walked in the direction of Ranui Station Rd, towards his home, police said.
A man driving a grey van stopped to ask the boy for directions, but abducted him.
The man drove the boy to an unknown location and sexually assaulted him.
The offender then drove the boy back to the Ranui and let him go.
The 11 year-old boy arrived home about 8pm.
“The victim is now recovering at home with his family,” Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh said.
He has undergone a medical examination and specialist child interviewers are expected to speak with him today.
“After that we hope to have more detail about the circumstances and a description of the person we are looking for,” McIntosh said.
McIntosh said police had limited details about the offender other than that he was driving a grey van and was by himself.
This kind of brash level of predatory behavior makes your blood run cold.
“We are treating this as a priority investigation and CIB detectives, as well as detectives from the Child Protection Team, are working on this investigation.
“We are making a range of enquiries and this includes the gathering and review of CCTV footage in that area,” he said.
McIntosh said he was aware the incident would be “alarming” to the West Auckland community.
“I’d like to reassure people that we will have extra patrols in the area over the next few days.”
He urged anyone with information to contact police.

Let’s hope CCTV and other security monitoring equipment captured the scumbag.
People with private systems facing public places in the area should check and contact the police if they think they have anything that may be useful.
