While he is reportedly not turning into a woman, Bono will be the first nominee who is not a woman to be included in Glamour’s Women of the Year awards, ending a 26 year history of only having notable women eligible for the award.
This obviously all makes sense because of course there aren’t enough awards out there honouring men — least of all rich, powerful, privileged men who are part of one of the most popular bands in the world.
And of course there are just not enough women in the world who deserve to be nominated ahead of Bono.
After all, this is the reason why a fictional character, Wonder Woman, was named United Nations’ honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls.
Apparently we need better flesh-and-blood women so they can be nominated and awarded for things. And who better to tell us how to be better than Bono?
“I’m sure I don’t deserve it,” Bono told Glamour in true modest fashion. “But I’m grateful for this award as a chance to say the battle for gender equality can’t be won unless men lead it along with women. We’re largely responsible for the problem, so we have to be involved in the solutions.”
Basically, he doesn’t deserve it but he’ll take it anyway, thank you very much.
Nice of him to help out. But yeah, what a ponce.
