Petulant Hippycrites won’t congratulate Trump. That bodes well for a left coalition government!

The Green party are disgusting. Normally when big events happen everyone in parliament gets together for a formal government motion.

Yesterday the Greens couldn’t even congratulate Donald Trump for his stunning victory, so bitter are their thoughts.

The Greens have broken ranks with the other parties in parliament, refusing to support a formal government motion congratulating US president-elect Donald Trump.

“I will not support this motion to support Trump and neither will the Green Party,” co-leader Metiria Turei said.

“We vow to fight the climate change denials, the misogyny and the racism represented by Trump – we will not let hate triumph.”

I wonder what happened to the Green party value: “Engage respectfully, without personal attacks”. it seems that used to be one of their values when Rod Donald was leader. Now it has been removed from their website.

Cabinet minister Steven Joyce introduced the motion asking parliament to convey its congratulations to Mr Trump.

He spoke about the excellent relationship between New Zealand and the US and said the government would seek to build on it with the new administration.

Labour’s deputy leader Annette King said her party congratulated Mr Trump, but she called on him to follow through with his commitment to rule for all Americans.

“The Labour Party values our relationship with the US and are committed to continuing it,” she said.

“At the same time, we make clear we will speak out against bigotry, misogyny and hate whenever and wherever we see it.”

NZ First leader Winston Peters, who last week predicted Mr Trump would win the election, said Western governments were ignoring the plight of their people.

He said Brexit and Mr Tump’s victory had happened because of a revolution by working people against administrations which were ruling for the wealthy few.

ACT leader David Seymour described Mr Peters as “the poor man’s Donald Trump – he’s selling the same product but can’t break 10 per cent (of the party vote),”.

Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox congratulated Mr Trump “despite misgivings we might have, and the collective sigh of the world”.

The motion was approved by 106 votes to 14.

National, Labour, NZ First, the Maori Party, ACT and United Future supported it.

The Green Party opposed it.

Dirty, filthy hippycrites. After stating that we “must include others” in the process of government and “to listen to each other” Metiria Turei then refused to do exactly that by voting on a motion to congratulate Donald Trump.
