Steve Joyce thinks that those who oppose the dodgy socialist dam in Hawkes Bay are awful green types.
Well, I’ve got news for him.
He shouldn’t think we are opposing it because we are greens. We are opposing it because we aren’t socialists.
I should also point out that the decision doesn’t just rest with the Hawkes Bay Regional Council.
The project has some criteria and legal hoops to jump through before it can even begin.
- they need more water sign ups
- they need a cornerstone investor, and none are close.
- they need to win court cases against F&B and then likely local Maori who are gearing up for a legal stoush.
Steve Joyce is dead wrong in other words. Then again he’s never seen a case of corporate welfare he hasn’t agreed with or thought showering them in more cash would help out.
That said the word is ACC wants greater than a 10% return for investing. They general prefer more, and they have a track record of achieving that. The dam project, at best, can only deliver a 6% return. The only way that ACC would invest would be via political manipulation.
