New Combat Shotgun for NZ Defence Force

Defence has recently bought a number of additional Benelli M3 (NZ) Shotguns to enhance its current fleet of weapons.

The Benelli M3 (NZ) is a 12 guage shotgun capable of being operated in either pump-action or semi-automatic mode. Check out the shotgun in action at a recent tri-service training day.

What Blair said

There is a great deal of lefty wailing about some soldier pissing on the corpses of dead Taliban. Blair Mulholland says what I am thinking.

These are soldiers!  They are supposed to kill our enemies.  What earthly difference does it make if they humiliate the corpse?  The corpse is no longer bothered by the offence.  Besides which, these are Taliban, they are vile sacks of shit who stone women for exposing their ankles and trying to get an education.  And they harboured Osama Bin Laden after 9/11 and refused to give him up.  If I had the opportunity, I would piss on a Taliban corpse as well.

Arapeta Awatere – the great Colonel of the Maori Battalion, once pissed on Hitler’s rug, and nobody complained.  If we are going to show no respect for these scumbags while they are living, why do their bodies suddenly become sacred in death?

The US Government and the US Army hierarchy should ask themselves when they became such pussies that they are so afraid of a bunch of pissing cocks.  These soldiers don’t deserve a court martial, they deserve a beer.

SAS Coming Home

John Key has announced that the SAS are coming home at the end of March:

Prime Minister John Key has confirmed the SAS will be withdrawn from Afghanistan in March.
Mr Key made the announcement this morning, saying the Special Air Services troops had done the job they were sent over for.

“You made a difference. It’s time to come home.”

Mr Key had earlier said he did not expect to extend their 30 month deployment past March, but had left a slight chance open for it to be extended, saying that the SAS itself had wanted to stay on.

Today he said he did not regret deploying the troops again.

Labour had opposed the deployment, saying the SAS was effectively assisting a “corrupt” regime in Afghanistan.

Me Key said the SAS had done its job helping Kabul’s Crisis Response Unit (CRU) “to the very highest of standards,” says Mr Key.

“Tragically, they have also paid the highest price, with two of the SAS’s fine soldiers losing their lives in the course of this work and I would, once again, like to pay tribute to Corporal Doug Grant and Lance Corporal Leon Smith who were killed in action.

“I deeply regret the loss of our soldiers but I do not regret our commitment to operations in Afghanistan.”
Out SAS troops are the best in the world at what they do, hopefully their legacy will see Afghanistan stay on top of the Taliban. Unfortunately I suspect that Afghanistan will continue to be a basket case.

Massive beat up on our troops by 3News

Tv3 ran a news story last night about a supposed alcohol problem amongst our troops in the NZDF.

They cited 500 drinking related offences over 5 years. That is just 100 per year out of total of 10,000 troops or just 1%. They have 61 bars, that’s one and half bar incidents a year per bar. What a massive beat-up of a non-problem. Who are the wowsers that fed this crap to to 3News?

It is a massive over reaction and actually poor reporting on the part of 3 News.

When you compare the NZDF with the rest of New Zealand it is actually the rest of New Zealand that has the drinking problem not the NZDF.

In New Zealand a third of crimes in 2007-2008 were carried out by a person affected by alcohol and in serious offences, such as homicides, it was about half of cases.

Each year police here take 21,000 drunk people home or to the cells because they cannot remember where they live.

In fact if you look at Police crime statistics you can see public disorder offences (like disorderly conduct) which are highly likely to involve alcohol for the past year were well over 40,000, for just one year.

500 offences by the NZDF over 5 years seems small beer if you ask me. A total beat-up by 3News, they should actually apologise to the NZDF.

Face of the Day

“Please meet Landon.. his dad Marine LCPL Andrew Carpenter made the ultimate sacrifice while serving on his second deployment with the 3/8 in Afghanistan earlier this year.. a month before his son was born. In the picture, to the right, Andrew Paul Carpenter’s dog tags dangle from his dusty boots. A small Bible, bookmarked with his wedding announcement, rests on the floor beside them.”

Labour’s SAS Pledge – FAIL

Labour has announced that they would bring back the SAS sooner if they became the government, inside 90 days:

Labour would bring New Zealand’s SAS soldiers home from Afghanistan within 90 days of assuming office.

The move was announced today as part of the party’s defence policy.

It was originally embargoed to 7pm but was released early after the embargo was broken.

Defence spokesman Iain Lees-Galloway said Labour would bring the current rotation home within a month and a half and would not send another group.

The Provincial Reconstruction Team would remain in Bamiyan province until 2014.

” We should not be putting the SAS in the middle of a civil war between a corrupt government and a brutal, fundamentalist opposition, where allegiances are constantly shifting and accountability hard to establish,” he said.

Uhmmm…

Nov 26 + 90 days = Feb 24 if you calculate strictly by days. If you use 3 months then 26 February.

The SAS are due home in March.

So Labour are promising to bring home the SAS a whole one week early! Whoopee that’ll win more votes.

Yet another stealing underpants strategy.

Shot!

The death of al-Awlaki death officially confirmed.

This is where Obama succeeds – a drone strike every 4 days compared to every 40 days under Bush.

A Reaper drone carrying Hellfire missiles and laser guided bombs can sit for 24 hours, 5 miles high and strike at pin-point accuracy. A formidable weapon in an assymetrical war.

Not nice

via Andrew Sullivan

Nasty stuff.

The upward blast of an IED often rips off lower limbs as high as the hip, as well as the genitals. … In some cases the perineum, the seam at the bottom of the torso, is ripped open and the intestines and other organs spill out, a Navy combat corpsman told me. One out of five Americans whom the Army medically evacuated from Afghanistan last October suffered such wounds, which the military calls genitourinary, or “GU,” wounds. … According to the Army task force report on severe IED wounds, a number [of troops] have developed “do not resuscitate” pacts in case they suffer traumatic genital amputation.

Not sure I’d be wanting to continue on after suffering “traumatic genital amputation”.
